Why is popping wheelies on a 600 dualsport seemingly easier than doing so on a 600 naked/ss

I rode dirtbikes for 8 years growing up and just took it slow so it wasn't too bad. The worst part was trying to turn it around in the morning after rain/snow and the entire ground turning to slop.

Took 10 minutes of sweat and mud up to my ankles. I didn't have much room so I had to keep going back and forth over the same ground.

More suspension travel so you can preload better? Upright seating position so better placed to move your bodyweight backwards? Big single means more torque at lower revs?

Don't think weight has much to do with it.

>>
>>15337509
mainly because torque and weight.

dual sport 170kg, roadbike 200kg, you have way more impact with your body weight + being lighter overall makes the front lighter too, therefore easier to rise. combine that with that better torque and it's ezpez

I kind of want to make a DIY bicycle with hub motors.
Currently e-bike scene has too much shit they do wrong (stupid fucks actually match battery voltage to the motor specs AND then have a motor driver) and I'm just eager to make a proof of concept for myself of how power conversion should really be done, but I'm lazy and busy with web dev wage slavery.
>>
Hey i took the motorcycle course and they tell you to wait until you are almost stopped completely to downshift as you never get past 2nd gear but what if im in 4th gear or something do i still wait till im almost stopped to drop it back to first
tldr when do i downshift
thanks in advance
>>
>>15337584
What kind of scene is it down there? I don't think I would go back to another HU meet anyway. Pretty much everyone was over 40, already there with their mates and the best presentations were basically just LWR but instead of Obi Wan and Boorman it's a guy talking you through a collection of pictures.
>>
>>15337613
if they fix the mileage why not
but nothing can replace the sound of an IC engine tbph. I'd stick to my bike as long as possible

>>15337619
Roadbikes are built to prevent wheelies as good as possible witihout trading handling in. And for powerwheelies you don't even need a torque twin, most supersports will do that in first gear with body positioning, on a liter it's literally just give it gas in the first 3 gears.
>>
>>15337655
Motorcycle course is good because they make you do a snake and teach to countersteer. That's it.
Take no advice on how to work controls from there seriously. These are same stupid hicks that insist you should not adjust hand position for cruising with open throttle.
>>
>>15337655
Nah, m8. You should shift down through the gears as you slow down. So if you're in 4th you slow down until your revs are close to idle speed then you drop into 3rd and repeat until you're in 1st.
>>
I passed my motorcycle riding test today!

I think it's ridiculous that people are supposed to take the test with only a day and a half worth of experience in the little safety course. Like for a car, you're allowed to get a permit and practice under certain limitations, but with a motorcycle you just have to (almost) instantaneously learn maneuvers and be tested.

There was a figure-8 in a box test that I failed pretty bad - I didn't drop the bike, but I had to put my feet down and it was over. The rest of the test I aced so I had enough points to pass. (I'm in Florida)

What are the laws in your area? What is the hardest part of the test?
>>
>>15337655
Be in the proper gear for whatever speed you're going. If you have to drop your clutch, you don't want to be in too high of a gear to speed away, but you don't want to be too low that your tire skids.
>>
>>15337692

>>

Grats man, my worst parts was the figure 8 as well, didn't get a foot down, but I went out of the box. What kind of bikes are did they have there?
>>
>>15337692
In the UK you'll do an offroad test (figure of eight, U turn, emergency stop, obstacle avoidance etc.) and a road test where an examiner will follow you on his own bike and direct you around country and town roads.

U turn and figure of eight are considered toughest in the offroad and just generally getting through a 30 minute road ride without doing something stupid can be hard.

>>15337655
This is a really important thing they dont teach you at the safety course. Engine breaking and Rev matching. Its probably the most important skill in becoming a better rider.

Being in the right gear at the right time (and in the powerband) is crucial to making turns at any speed. So as a new rider, try slowing the bike down to near stops with just the engine.

Depending on the bike (say a 250cc), 4th at 40 mph:
>pull the clutch in
>rev the bike a tad higher (to match)
>downshift to 3rd
>let the clutch out
The bike should pull and slow down, practice doing this until its a smooth transition. You can do this all the way into the red light. The benefit of doing this is huge. You're in the right gear for the right speed, you can take turns if needed, and you're in the powerband to speed away if the light turns green.

In my state you can get a learner permit with a 20 question test that even a gorilla can pass. It's valid for a year.
A whole lot of harley guys just renew them, easier than to pass test.

Oh yeah a cherry on a pie, learner permit has no restrictions, but if you get a license, you are locked into same restriction tier that your testing motorcycle belonged to, which there are:
under 90,
90-249
250-649
650+

and immediately lose learners permit.

I dunno. "modern" HDs all conform to the current "lifestyle" trend that makes them visually different from older Harley's. Most of their current lineup is super low slung with no ground clearance, forward controls, and blacked out everything.

You could tap it out with a punch and a hammer and some patience unless you've completely fucked it.

You may have to drill it out and retap the hole.
>>
>>15338720
It seems to be the best setup for functionality though. You can have one headlight angled perfectly for a low beam to not blind everyone, and one high beam that lights up everything. A single headlight with a dual filament bulb probably wouldn't be quite as versatil
>>
>>15338737
We'll I've tried drilling through but the bits keep breaking and I'm not getting anywhere beyond an 1/16th". The chisel method doesn't work, I can't catch the bolt. What do you mean tap it out?

Once batteries get better and prices come down I would. Bet it would make a good commuter bike. They should put in at least 3 ratios. You could maybe get away with a weaker motor that doesn't suck up as much juice and it would still be fast as the bigger motor. Some make a cool whine

How true is this?

From another thread

>harley riders
older fat white guys who all look identical with their shaved heads and goatees. Literally low IQ clones.

>Cafe racers
Hipster millennials that dump thousands of dollars (likely because their families are well off) into their niche brand bikes in constant one upsmanship and effeminete passive aggressiveness. Here be squids, manlets, big beards and bernie sanders cock suckers. One good thing about this group is seeing all varietys of bikes and builds that are genuinely cool. You dont see so much bike diversity in any other group, even harleys and sport bikes are welcome here.

>Sport bikers
Probably the best of the groups, but come in two extremes: Either they care about skill and precision and always leather up OR they are squid cunts who are worse than the hipsters AND the fat harley bikers

As a Triumph riding millenial, I'm pretty much forced into the cafe biker group. I find 99% of them fucking obnoxious liberals who brag about craft beer and bike knowledge that doesnt suit their hipster persona. 90% of them dress to be "stylish" and have openface hipster helmets and spend ungodly amounts of money customizing their bikes for instagram fame and attention. I genuinely like a few of them but for the most part their hipsterness and carelessness (of their bikes and bodies) really fucking irritates me.

None of my normal friends ride bikes atm so its annoying as fuck to be stuck doing group rides with these wayfarer/bandana/ 3/4 helmet wearing cro-magnons

Pic is me returning to SoCal from Hip-Sturgis (Motos in Moab 2) in Utah. I surprisingly actually had a great time and wasnt disgusted by hipster behavior.

What vehicle should I buy when I get to Cali?

I have to be able to live in it, carry my bike in it, and hoon in the desert. Like a camper/pre-runner/overland vehicle hybrid.

But I'm a licensed adult riding a legal, registered bike. I just wanted a do-it-all machine to use for backroads, smashing twisties, and hitting the trail. I do wheelies, but never in town. Just mainly country roads and only going into the city to get gas or a quick run to a store.

Am I cancer on a dirtbike?

I remember seeing a website that let you send pictures in to get them custom printed.
I wonder what the process for making them is.. You could melt that soft rubber resin stuff over a sticky pad with the picture printed on it using a mold.

>first ride on my drz today with the new motor

With the new motor and freshened up top end - I also did new sprockets and chain. Had stock 15/41.

I bought a 14t front and 43t rear but they sent me a 45t rear. I figured fuck it I'd give it a shot. Hory shiet.

I knew it'd be a big change but my top speed went from just barely 100mph to like 80mph. My 3rd/4th gear are basically what my 2nd gear used to be. Now for woolies I clutch it up in 3rd or 4th and ride it to the revlimiter in 5th without issue.

It's great for that but no more highway for my durz. Might go back to a 41t rear.

Some kid in a commodore SMIDSY'd me, second time I replaced that bracket, too.

You're such an attention whore. Here's your (you)
>>
>>15339284
For street riding I like to gear my bikes a bit taller to keep the revs low when cruising, and just ride a gear lower when I need power rather than using sprockets to gear it lower.

The downside is when I get to the dirt a tall first gear can be hard to deal with.

Laws here are pretty bad. First you take a mandatory 20ish hour class that cost $1000. After that you have a circuit exam that includes slalom, going slow, emergency braking/swerve. The license you get from that allows you to ride, but only accompanied by someone who's had a license for at least 2 years. After 11 months you have a road exam which gives you your real license.

>tfw exam in a month
>didn't ride since last august

It pulls good enough in top gear at low rpm you think you need to upshift.

Change your sprocket.
That or swap gears from an sv650. I bet they would fit since they use the same engine and a bunch of other parts. It was the replacement for the sv on the cheap with a different purpose.
