your downshifts sound really odd/bad but I've never ridden a bike with a slipper clutch so I have no idea if that's all gravy or not, they visibly upset the bike though which makes me think you could smooth them out with a little rev matching. Your shifts up are also weird, you use the clutch but also don't really let off the throttle a few times which is just a bit weird and visibly unsettles the bike again, if I'm near full throttle like that I tend to clutchless and whip the throttle rather severely.

Linewise, eh, not much to complain about. I tend to prefer sticking into one set of lines and not crossing on double lanes(like webm related) just because I think it's rather pointless to deliberately hit up a twisty road then try and straighten it out as much as possible.

Your braking is kind of weird I guess, theoretically on the road you want to enter as wide as possible and you seem to brake in the middle of the lane, and push out to the edge as the road tightens which kind of puts you in an odd place to begin the corner and essentially makes it impossible to apex ( see: 1:15) starting as wide as possible then finishing tight instead of trying to apex it race style provides better vision and a safety net if you begin running wide too but I'm not gonna criticize on that, I don't exactly have the best lines.

I could see more of what's going on with a helmet mounted cam, hard to see what's going on with your body position and brakes and what not from this one.

Bikes have terrible aero, they look slick but aero wise they're equivalent to brick walls.

I mean think about the radiator on a bike, it's just a big vertical wall right at the front of the vehicle.

the average car has a drag co-efficient of like 0.3, bikes are usually around 0.6, even super aerodynamic bikes like the hayabusa are only 0.561
>>
>>15291932
Are all bikes like so, though?
Why does my diesel shittruck have an higher top speed than my baiku?
Can this be solved by changing sprockets or is there any way to play with your transmission like they do in MotoGP?

>I mean think about the radiator on a bike, it's just a big vertical wall right at the front of the vehicle.
You mean like the radiator on a car?

Drag coefficient doesn't directly mean shit, it's just a measure of efficiency independent of frontal area (of which bikes have fuck all) A 150hp bike goes a hell of a lot faster than a 150hp car. But in general sure bikes are "worse" when it comes to pounds of drag compared to pounds of weight which is why they can accelerate faster than a car with the same top speed.

So if anyone has some input on this, i would appreciate it greatly!

- KTM 1290 is rather expensive
- BMW S1000R is rather unreliable
- Kawasaki Z1000 is rather down on power (comparely)
- Yamaha MT10 is rather butt-ugly
- Honda CBR1000R is rather out of production

What do when you need a reliable, 160 hp, naked sport bike? :(

They are a good tire. However, they don't wear/last as long. They are sticky soft so that's to be expected. They are OEM on the BMW K1600GT and GTL. Michelin equivalent is better in the rain, but not the dry. The Michelin also wears longer.

1. they used an engine design they've had since 2005 (and throttle bodies from 2007), the swingarm and brakes are ripped straight from the current normal GSX-R, there is no slipper clutch.

2. Electronic doohickies are there but at a minimum, you can buy it without ABS for less money, it has traction control but it's basic in comparison to the european competition.

e.g the 1290 has a 6 axis IMU, you can pull the brake lever as hard as you can while leaned over on a corner and it's cornering sensitive ABS will save you etc.

3. The little stuff.

>no LED headlights
>rubber, not braided steel brake lines.
>nissin master cylinder not brembo
>no quickshifter
but that stuff is rather minor to me, if I was getting a supernaked it's what I'd do. Then I'd spent a few bucks

All they did was just build a really nice, mechanically sorted bike without many bells and whistles. Gave you everything you need and nothing you don't.

A BMW engine doesn't fail, it's the parts around it that fail.
I did 800km a day last year on my BMW, fully loaded, on highways and small mountain passes, the engine loved it.

BMW went frickin' crazy with tech before they actually mastered any of it. The K1200LT is the epitome of this. What a fucking debacle! They sourced parts from companies with poor quality control too. I love my K1600, but would not have bought a pre-2015 model. But in fairness, the 2014s are safe now after a fuel map software update. Before that, they "pinged" and broke ring lands.

The answer is Tuono 1100.
But...

>1290 SDR
Expensive because it's outrageously good.
>S1000R
Own one. Not unreliable, but has had it's moments. Never been an issue because my dealer support is 10/10. Best bike I've owned to date. 20,000km in one year so far, worst thing that happened was a fork seal wiggling it's way loose; bike was collected, fixed and returned to me in 4 hours, free of charge.
>Z1000
The Z is still quick as any of them up to jail speeds. The engine pulls as hard as the S1000R, if not a tiny bit more, but when the Z has to change gears the BMW keeps going and going and going.
>MT10
Yeah it's ugly but so is the BMW. Bet it rides great though, keen to try one.
>CBR1000R
Old, dated and dull compared to the rest.
>>

I have angel GT's, they're alright but I won't buy them again.

They need heat to stick (they do stick though, you've probably seen it anyway but pic related is me on angel GTs on my SV), don't seem to work over bumps as well, kind of feel a bit lazy on turn in.

I'll be going for S21R next, worse range but I mean the payoff for tyres that will give you 200% confidence at all times is worth it imo.

>>15292283
those sound very similar to me, I'm curious if you've just never heard a crossplane I4 if you don't think those revs at 20 seconds sound like one.

A vfr800 has a 180 degree V4, same firing intervals as a crossplane I4.

If you'd posted an RC30 or an RC213V-S or something with a 360 degree crank you'd have a point but that sounds pretty much the same to me dude.

Riding on PR4's now, had Diablo Rosso Corsas before.
The Pirelli took ages to warm up, was downright dangerous in the wet while the Michelin offers solid dry grip and I won't burn through 100 bucks of tire on a single highway road trip.
Sure, I'm not the greatest rider and if I lived right next to a set of awesome twisties and never used the bike for long trips I'd use another tire but as a general-use road tire it is fantastic.

honestly I can't tell any difference in wet weather potential between my GT's and the S20 Evo i had on the front before which is why I'm going to S21 as my next purchase (already have Q3's I purchased months ago)

They were honestly fantastic in the wet, I've done both wheelies and stoppies on wet ground on the S20's which is not fucking bad for a sporty tyre and I couldn't get the thing to spin up no matter how I wrenched the throttle in 1st on them in the wet (I mean I don't exactly have a powerhouse, only 70 hp but still) only if you leaned forward and popped the clutch could you get it spinning.

thats what every beginner says, until hes been riding for a couple weeks that is

Holy hell, he's not trying to kill himself. I'd definitely go with a Suzuki SV650 though, if a GS500 can be avoided.

8 years later and I still just commute.

Might be good, kinda fishy there's no shots of the bike other than of the rear
>>
>>15292801
mine is road legal its just thirsty, you can only do about 100km of riding before you hit reserve then about 30km on reserve so no point riding out to where ever if you are going to run out of fuel after 3 hours of riding

Nah he'd be fine, those early MV's were really underpowered, plus super reliable

Sup /dbt/

I want to buy a 696 monster for around 4500 euros but can't seem to find good ones at that price in my country

so my question is : is this bike really worth it ?

I previously had a 600 cbr (that i regret selling), a dorsoduro, a cb 500

i really like the look of the monster and i'm small (5'7)

pic related, my cbr

>>
>>15292960

That's my problem

With my previous bikes i always knew what i wanted, but now i'm indecisive

I really love the monster, but that's an expensive bike, so is it really that good ?

I'll just use it on the weekends
>>
>>15292940
you probably have more bike experience than most of dbt, you'd be best off trying one and deciding

what?
they are reliable
from what I can understand from the romanian text it doesn't say anything about that it needs an engine rebuild

This or maybe a gixxer K4 K5

it has done 40,000km, thats at least 500 hours of riding and thats assuming he has been averaging around 80 km/h, thats 50 services it probably didnt get, i doubt the engine is in good condition.
>>
>>15293077
it is a dual sport, not an enduro
they don't need frequent rebuilds like the enduro bikes
it's the same as normal road bikes maintenance wise

>>
>>15293092
it's a 30 year old bike, if it has never had the engine rebuilt it is probably fucked.
you really think everything inside that engine will be fine?
Because i really don't, for all you know it could have sat for a decade in a shed without turning over and all the bearings inside the engine could be rusted and they have just got it going to flog it off before everything explodes in 10 hours time
>>
>>15293116
Id be more worried about the valves, sleeve, crank and main bearings than i would the piston and rings.

30 year old bike.
>>
>>15293149
>you really think everything inside that engine will be fine?
yes?
if it has been maintained normally it will run for at least double the mileage it has right now
you seem like you don't know anything about engines
>>
>>15293159
except those tend to fail after the piston and you obviously check them when you take the engine apart

if it has ever sat for any period of time the bearings in the bottom end are likely fucked

my point was that 40000km isn't worrying on those bikes
