I'm am currently researching swapping a running 4age black top into my kp61 toyota starlet. they make engine mounts for this situation, so i won't have to fabricate those.

has anyone done any kind of engine swap before? any input from such a person is valued. I'm trying to get a general list of tools i will need.

a lift (maybe jack stands?)
engine hoist
stick welder
plasma cutter
torque wrench
angle grinder
pneumatic drill/driver

Why don't you post this on a Toyota Starlet forum. Kinda retarded to make a thread about something as obscure as this on a general auto forum.

Someone is bound to disagree with me on this but I'd probably not use a black top. If you use a 16V 4AGE with a pair of 45mm Weber DCOE carbs or a set of 40mm Mikuni (from a first generation R1) with bigger jets, you can avoid a LOT of the wiring headaches typically involved with engine swaps.

If it's your first time it simplifies things incredibly.

Good power wouldn't be an issue with either approach. Tuning without a laptop is nice too.

>stick welder
Just buy a MIG and learn to weld you pussy

Bye bye poor old 4k!

This is more of a club4ag topic. I bet they've had this thread already.

plasma cutter isn't needed, stick welder is useless.

how am i gonna do the exhaust without welding?

a new KP swap intake manifold. or modify your existing one to fit.

you can buy the manifolds modified for KP swaps off the shelf.

what gearbox do you plan to use? the K50 doesnt bolt up and wont take the power.

its a relatively easy swap so long as you got all the relevant parts. This would be my shopping list
>Axle stands X4
>Jack x1 (x2 is better)
>Engine hoist.
>Engine (RUNNING PACKAGE)
>steel flex hose for exhaust
>RWD exhaust manifold. (all 4age have same bolt spacing, exhausts for an AE86 will fit a KP swap)
>EITHER: RWD waterpump, or FWD>RWD ubend for 4age water pump.
>Modified intake manifold for RWD.
>T50 gearbox
>money for a driveshaft modification (T50 is longer than K50)

Some misc bits
Tools and materials to re-route the fuel line
parts you want to do with the intake, pipe and filter.
