I Corolla. I have a 1988 AE82/FX-16. It's been in my family since 1989. Grandmother kept it for 20 years in her garage in New York until we went and drove it back to Texas because she couldn't drive anymore.

An amazing car, my only complaint is that it's an automatic. I was thinking about swapping in a manual for years but the automatic in (I think it's an A240L) is just too good to replace. Like the engine, it will last forever.

I disagree. I think the AE82 is all around better than the AE86. About the only thing the AE86 has going for it over the AE82 is it's rear wheel drive. Also because of the whole "drift" cult, it has an artificially high value. In an actual race, the (stock) AE82 will beat the (stock) AE86 because front wheel drive handles better and the AE82 is also lighter. It's also a wagon with seats that fold almost all the way down. I've moved several times with it.

One weird thing about the AE82 though that nobody ever seems to mention is that it's a Frankstein's monster of a car. It uses parts from 86 and older Corolla models, 88 and newer Corollas, and even 89 and older Camrys, even though the car was only available in the US from 1987-1988.
