Don't think I can go back desu lads.

Bought AC on Steam during the sale a few days ago, and it's so fucking good compared to GT. I'm having more fun just driving the RX7 than I ever did racing it in Gran Turismo. You can actually fucking feel and especially HEAR that twin-turbo rotary setup.

i just do whatever i feel like, theres so many different ways to initiate a drift. also, reason why you're under steering so much is because your rotation is 180. i was messing around with between 200 - 460- 900 lock and it's ridiculously easy to under steer at 200 vs 900

Alright, and so current OVG Dirt Rally league event is coming to its end. Those are current standings, i guess it's safe to assume that no one else will finish it in last two hours so i'll say it already: congratulations to everyone who managed to finish this demanding eight-stage+repairless event.

Next event starts couple minutes after current one ends, it's quick, one-week Group A challenge with only four stages and repair point in the middle. Everyone, have fun.

Dear Barney Gumballs,

The Appeals Committee has reviewed the appeal along with all information available in the protest and your history in iRacing.com

Every member of iRacing has a reasonable expectation that we will do our best to prevent other members from intentionally disrupting their experience at iRacing.

After review we find there is enough evidence to support intentional wrecking of many to ruin the race for all. We do not believe that your wheel was unplugged or stopped working as you were driving your heavily damaged car with in the racing groove of the corner while the pack came upon you resulting in wrecking many drivers. This combined with other incidents connected with another driver that involve ruining races across several sessions, we feel a suspension was indeed warranted. Having said that, as this is your first suspension we will reduce the indefinite suspension to 12 months with a new return to service date of 5/21/17.

Decision: Reduced

Good luck on track in the future.

Regards,

iRacing.com Appeals Board

FUCK

Alright gents, here's the plan for IndyCar:

-3x per month (alternating with RanWEC)
-Saturday
-7:00PM UTC
-No Yellow Flags
-No Driver Restrictions
-Mix of Standing and Rolling Starts
-Possibility of rain at road courses (will test this first)
-No special skin mods--create your custom skins on an existing car and join with that
-Aero packages and wheelbases are NOT LOCKED. Make sure to check the tuning menu before joining the server!

Tentative Schedule:

Interlagos
Palm Springs (Homestead)
Barber Motorsports Park
Mid-Ohio
Eagle Creek (Kentucky)
Adelaide Street Circuit
Sebring
Apple Valley (Auto Club)
Road America

There's how many laser scanned tracks in AC?
How many cars properly modeled?
Also, it's basically a modded Kart sim they had in the past, so the engine is still the same, which is why we have shit lightning in the game.

I love AC, I like hot lapping, I like making skins that look really nice (it annoys me that we aren't provided with anything more than the skin and wheel template though, what's up with that).
And it's the only time I ever paid for early access, BUT, and like most games like that, it feels like we're still in some advanced beta but not quite release.
All the cars and tracks including dlc should have been part of standard release imo (ok, maybe not the ring since it's huge and it costs more to laser scan), netcode is shit (why the fuck do we need to have all content paid for to race with others with same content? just let us race without needing to have matching levels of content).
I like the new collision model, and the jdm pack imo brought the game to a better standard, but it needs more definitely, and I don't like the fact that they are aiming for console shit instead of focusing on physics and content.

>>15123483
Has any racing game, arcade or sim or whatever in between, good AI?
I mean, arcade ones have rubberbands which if you turn off they are super off the pace or on rails. Sims have either dumb AI, or again, on rails.

Barely any race cars still use left foot braking. Modern race gearboxes will -generally- take shifting without the clutch and paddle shift cars are explicitly meant to be left foot braked.

NASCAR was probably the first place they started building the gearboxes so strong they could road race them without the clutch because stock car drivers have no fucking idea how to heel/toe. They lift on upshifts and blip on downshifts and left foot brake except for a few guys.

I have no idea what the fuck is the deal in BTCC these days.

V8s have sequential shift without lift and heel/toe and left foot+blipping are split depending on the age and background of the drivers.

Higher level GT cars these days are 99% paddle shift, been that way since about 2012. The 458 GT2 in AC has the old manual gearbox though, which is roughly equivalent to V8s.
>>
>>15123850
So the V8s have sequential with no programmed auto lift/blip?
And I really didn't know that about NASCAR, I assumed heel toe was crucial in oval racing because otherwise you'd lose it every corner and spin the fuck out whenever you downshift and engine rev has to match trans rev and wheels.
>>
>>15123888
>shifting
>on ovals
>>
>>15123850
BTCCs also have no lift+auto blip seq gearboxes

Also from what I've seen in nascar, most people do conventional downshifts, a few do heel and toe and I don't even know if anyone actually takes advantage of the dog box transmission to left foot brake.
>>
>>15123892
I'm not from murica and not used to ovals.
Maybe the gearing length is enough, but I thought it would be necessary for when you take off from the corner otherwise they would lose the power at the top.
But then again, I know nothing about NASCAR besides who (some) races in what livery and some well known ovals.
>>
>>15123896

Cup cars have a really wide rev range (big V8s that have been engineered to rev forever) and 1) slow shifts, 2) only 4 speeds so shifting is usually not very fast or desirable.

Shifting for the tightest corner at Pocono is common though and some people were shifting at New Hampshire last year.

i find the AI in
Project Cars
to be quite fun, it just depends how many AI Cars you put on track. Driving in other conditions than clear mid-day sky can be really nice. >I am just mentioning stock cars feel understeery
Another anon, but it's completely normal for most cars to understeer, even if they are FR cars, or even RR.
This is a criticism I don't get from AC, which I've read here and in james gay ass blog.
If you have driven a lot of cars irl a bit hard at least, you'll know that even FR and RR understeer unless some shit happens or you really really push it. It's just because it's safer for the normal consumer.
Also, track cars will also understeer because a lot of people are faster this way, it's easier to learn when you're overdriving it with it because you'll only miss the apex or something, not spin right out.
GT3 cars are driven by gentlemen (aka old people with stupid money) so most understeer with factory set ups.
From what I remember the only oversteer from factory set up monsters in AC are tuned cars (so, not actual factory cars), the yellowbird, the sauber-merc, the classic F1s, F40.

>If you have driven a lot of cars irl a bit hard at least, you'll know that even FR and RR understeer unless some shit happens or you really really push it. It's just because it's safer for the normal consumer.
Look I get it, understeer happens a lot in real life and even on tuned cars, you can understeer even the stratos in dirt rally. My point is that AC is the first game where all I felt was understeer, compared to other games. The cars were stable as fuck to the point where it felt like aids were keeping my car from spinning out. But again, that's just my very short racing carer talking.

>From what I remember the only oversteer from factory set up monsters in AC are tuned cars (so, not actual factory cars), the yellowbird
Yeah, yellowbird was the first car in AC that actually over-steered and lost some control if you go full retard due to the turbo. It was the first car that was actually enjoyable to drive in AC for me.

Grip is faster than drift if you're hotlapping

That entire slide was nowhere near controlled. Too much angle, too low a gear for the corner, etc.

Git gud.

>Grip is faster than drift if you're hotlapping
There it is.

>That entire slide was nowhere near controlled.
It was controlled just at a different point that you are used to.
>Too much angle
If the angle was different then it would not slide and end up where I wanted it.
>too low a gear for the corner
How come?

>>15127722
>all you did was barely slide the last section of the corner and come out of the slide really badly.
Actually I slid through out the corner and stopped the slide at the end.
Or are you the kind of person who thinks that sliding only happens when the rear tires spin in place and cause smoke?

>>15127741

>inb4 "I'm learning the track!"
That was the first day I got AC and I had driven SPA about....6 times maybe and by that point I don't exactly care about turning it off because NOOO my autism.

>Honestly, who on /ovg/ hasn't played/raced on Spa?
You need a healthier look on reality friend.
Not everybody has lots of driving experience with racing games or sim games in particular.
Some people are new to the thing.

>>15127771
Not even sure if you are serious or not, regardless that webm made me chuckle.

>There it is.
I've proven this multiple times on the AE86 server using bias ply tires. You can never hook up leaving a corner with a drift. Small slides are useful in very tight technical corners, but la source is all about exit speed.

>It was controlled just at a different point than you are used to
You basically mashed the throttle out of the corner, countersteered way too late and had way too little speed because you were in 1st gear. My 15 year old brother could do better. The fact that you think it was decent is actually kind of sad.

>If the angle was different then it would not slide and end up where I wanted it.
You ended the slide in the middle of the track. There's no way you were aiming for something like that. It's a completely shit line, and even the crappy racing line in-game is closer to the correct line than what you took.

>How come
You're bouncing redline at 40km/h in a 500hp car that weighs 2300lbs coming out of a corner that goes into one of the fastest straights of any circuit. You tell me.

You shouldn't ever really use 1st gear unless you're launching.
>>
>>15127665
>>15127818
That was more like you fucked up the corner and saved it, and not a proper through corner drift.
Entry speed is low, angle is shit, exit speed is atrocious, and take off from exit is slow as shit.
I mean, the bird is hard to drive yeah, but jej.
>That entire slide was nowhere near controlled.
>It was controlled just at a different point that you are used to.
My sides.
>Too much angle
>If the angle was different then it would not slide and end up where I wanted it.
So you wanted a shit exit with slow speed?
>too low a gear for the corner
>How come?
You're in first gear nigga, you tell us. 1st isn't enough to maintain speed and control through a fast drift or that corner because as you can see, you bang the redline with no "headroom" and lose speed, hence why you have such a shit drift.

>>15127790
>breaking at the right spot
Nowhere near the right spot, also AC racing lines are static display afaik, they don't change depending on the car dynamics, your relative speed to that corner, angle, etc.
>>
>>15127818
>Actually I slid through out the corner and stopped the slide at the end.
>Or are you the kind of person who thinks that sliding only happens when the rear tires spin in place and cause smoke?
just proves you have no idea how to drift correctly. your angle going into and coming out of the turn was shit and something i can do accidentally in a RR car.

I was making a joke man. Don't take that part seriously.
>You basically mashed the throttle out of the corner
As long as the car remains stable, I don't see what the problem is. So tell me why shouldn't I?

>You ended the slide in the middle of the track
Yeah, that was kind was I was going for. Slide into the corner and accelerate out of the corner at the earliest point.
>There's no way you were aiming for something like that
I was actually aiming to get the front of the car to slide past the barrier and then stop the slide there and accelerate in a straight line.
>You're bouncing redline at 40km/h in a 500hp car that weighs 2300lbs coming out of a corner that goes into one of the fastest straights of any circuit. You tell me.
What is the downside, loss of speed?

>>15127843
>That was more like you fucked up the corner and saved it, and not a proper through corner drift.
It was intentional though and I know it's not a classical drift, where you slide the car in an arc and control it with throttle.

>Entry speed is low, angle is shit, exit speed is atrocious, and take off from exit is slow as shit.

How are you playing this in VR?
>>
>>15128068
I'm not, it's trackir (specifically opentrack or whatever, poor man alternative). Fun gimmick, plus sometimes it's useful when i want to peek the corner or look in the mirror.

But sometimes i'm using moonlight on smartphone combined with trackir and tridef to have "real VR", it works just like rift but both moonlight and opentrack have noticeable lag, so it's more of a gimmick than serious alternative to VR. Not to mention obvious tracking inferiority.
