Upgrade the fuel pump internals. You've probably already heard that everywhere else. Especially for the second gen. It isn't that hard and worth a couple hundred bucks to safeguard your investment.

And this is one of the only cars I've owned where an intake actually made a truly noticeable difference. I recommend it. But do the internals and AP first.

The internals are a must, for sure. Autotech is the go-to and what I had. Not a bad install with the guides online (be sure to be careful removing the vacuum tubing and not break the stock boost controller like I did. not a big deal, but a pain in the ass)

I loved my stuff from JBR and I never had one but people really like the DM catch can.

The community around this platform is probably the best I've ever been a part of, and it is one of the biggest things I miss after selling the car. A lot of people get rubbed the wrong way because it isn't an accepting group if you don't play by "their rules." Granted, they can be serious assholes, but everyone is sometimes. Do a little research on the car to show you're serious and they welcome you with open arms. People open up their homes, share tools, help you wrench, and even offer up parts they aren't using to help you out. See if there is a NATOR group in your area if you want to talk mazdaspeeds.

For starters, I need to take some decent pictures after switching to alloy wheels with my actual camera.

I'm planning to repaint the sideskirts black again and I'll probably do it some time next week.
I already bought wax and polish too, waiting for an opportunity to fix the paint a little bit. Fuck not having a garage, I would have had it done already.

I'm thinking of spacers for the rear wheels but that's a bit more far off.

Don't go WOT in 5th or 6th unless you're built, easiest way to blow up a motor (from experience)
CX Racing has a cheap FMIC kit with decent piping just a shitty core, CorkSport has a good FMIC and so does CP-E and Treadstone. Both kind of expensive, though.

Have to replace the front ventilation flap, the water leaks in heavy rain, not much but still enough to be annoying or maybe damage the radio.
Have to replace rubber on drivers door to prevent eventual leaks.

Already cleaned the insides and removed rust/repainted what needed to be done and insulated almost everything to make it water/rust proof. Organized the trunk and made a board that lays on spare wheel and other tools so they won't get dirty, also enclosed the trunk from the backseat with sky-leather so people can't see what I'm carrying in the back ( usually 10L gas canister, but still)

Also one day, I may get a couple of K04 turbos from a 2003 RS6.

I love this car a lot, and I'm not flashy, so I want to keep it simple.

I would recommend 20% front, 5% rear. I have 5% all around and it's way too much, in my opinion. Not only does it look blatantly illegal if you have tint laws but at night you're pretty much wearing horse blinders. I had 20% fronts on the car before that and feel that's the perfect opacity.

You can get OEM parts from the highest trim of your car on ebay or Car-part.com for super cheap. It's what I did. I got the Touring model of my car, replaced a bunch of parts for under a grand. Boom. Best features of the Grand Touring and saved my self like 4 grand.

Already Done: Guibo/Center Bearing ($300), UUC Evo 3 SSK + DSSR + Weighted E30 Shift Knob ($300 with all bushings, etc replaced for shifter), new transmission crossmember and AKG E21 trans mounts ($100), PCV Assembly/Hoses and Valve Cover Gasket ($120~)

Tomorrow: Clutch Master/Slave Cylinder, RE SS Clutch Line, AKG Clutch Bushings, new clutch pedal ($200)

Later this week:
-Wire in and install new radio (Alpine CDE-121, $50 on CL)
-Install used set of TCKline Single Adjustables on 400/500lb springs I bought, needs bumpstops and a few other odds ends (washers and I have to see if the adjusters will break free, cost $700 and don't seem blown)
-Send car to shop to get rear strut tower rust fixed ($400-600 with new caps and sheetmetal welded in)

Then I'll be broke for a few weeks...and likely in a month or two:

-Front Control Arms ($250)/Tierods ($100) and Wheels/Tires (tempted to buy a set of SSR Type Cs in 17x8 5x120 for $800 but would still need tires, doing a 200TW tire and a squared 245 or 255 setup)

Honestly I bought the SSK and DSSR as a package for $180 off some guy who still had it on his E36 M3 transmission he had on CL for $500.

Was in good shape though I had to replace a broken allen bolt on the "cup" and he messed with the anti-tamper bolt.

And yeah, that's pretty much the explanation I got from one of the guy's at Rogue Engineering (pic related).

No way to remove that slop unless I bought a whole new transmission which was a shame considering this car even with all new shifter bits doesn't have anywhere as "good" of a shifter feel as my 3 Hondas and Miata prior. Very notchy/rough with play.

Changing the shift rod joint and carrier bushings took out a lot of the play in gear though.

Done a turbo downpipe, touchscreen head unit and I swapped the wheels out for the wheels from the Gen2, like in OP's pic.

Next up will be a SRI or CAI, not sure right now. In the long run, i'd like to finish off the exhaust with one those Xforce Varex mufflers, so I can turn it off and on.

I am kinda in love with this car. It's the first 'non-shitbox' I've ever had. I love that the coolant isn't mixing with the oil, and the oil isn't leaking everywhere, and the suspension and breaks are still there.

What's done:
New breaks, with slots/holes so they don't warp like crazy
New carpets, so it smells like brand new
K&N intake, for better sound
New turn signal switch, wasn't self canceling all the time

Other than that I plan to keep it stock and clean.

I changed the tires to Goodyear Eagle F1 all season tires. Made the car driveable in the snow.
So far the plans are:

My 79 camaro, I need to drop out the stock 3 speed auto for something with at least 5 plus overdrive which also means new driveshaft and rear end I guess. It's putting out 420hp at the crank currently so it cycles through all 3 gears in like 4 seconds and then just revs to hell

'89 Aerostar here. I traded my crashed Fox Body for a $1200 custom paint job. Gonna be taking it in for that next week, getting it painted Ford Racing Blue. I plan on swapping in ranger front and rear discs so I can have the luxury of 2 piston brakes. with no ABS I once had to slam on the brakes on the freeway and I stopped for a little bit and then slid. I saved it but the brakes are way underpowered. I would also like to put wider back tires because being RWD and weighing 3200lbs before I stripped the back part and put in carpeting, it breaks traction very easily.
Finally, I would like to eventually swap in a manual transmission out of a Ranger/Probe/Contour SVT.
