Back before the engine/clutch/electronics/brakes died, I cut the rear muffler off of my otherwise stock Z31 with a gutless VG30E and it sounded amazing.

Probably the only good thing about that car, aside from the welded diff.

My Home Owner Association has rules against loud cars. You can say they cannot stop you from owning a car. That is correct. You can own one but you can't drive one here. You then retort they cannot stop you from driving or fine you. Okay, they can't fine you without some court precedent. Oh wait, there is one. But let's be kind and give that win to you.

You now get a lawyer letter from the HOA staff about your noisy car not meeting rules. Since your covenant states you have to INDEMNIFY, that means the lawyer fee and the cost of letter and the cost of its messenger delivery to your home is about $300, you quickly stop driving such cars on association property until the problem is corrected. YES, CORRECTED. If you don't pay, each month a huge penalty amount is added by the lawyer firm for not paying them. Since it is a lien against your property, you will end up paying it one way or another. Each week you continue driving the uncorrected problem, you will get another lawyer letter. After 6 months, the HOA is able to tow any uncorrected vehicle problem, so a tow truck shows up and tows it out of your driveway and it is gone. We had a ricer who sued about this and lost. Due to the indemnify clause, he had to pay both the costs of his lawyers and the cost of HOA lawyers plus court costs. Pretty high. By the way, the HOA has never lost even one court case.

Because the rice car was towed, the lien is extended to it and now both your house and car are liened. After one year, the HOA is allowed to sell off liened property. If it is kind, it gets a real estate agent to sell it properly and gives the difference to you. If unkind, it sells your house for exactly the amount you owe on lien and you get NOTHING back; you have lost your car and house for zero return. By the way, lien law means you still owe the mortgage and loans on the house and car. Those debts are not transferred to the new owner.

Because of security and reliability. For example, you can have minorities live in such a neighborhood peacefully. For example, you can have hispanics here, but no spics. If you don't paint, mow, tend to repairs, someone is appointed to do it and a lien is attached to your property. Since bad people cannot behave, they get forced out by liens. The HOA has a number of racism suits and won all of them. The miscreants had huge legal bills as a result and the lawyers get the bills to become court ordered payments. That's important because president bush changed the personal bankruptcy laws to protect corporations from individual bankruptcy. A court ordered legal fees payment cannot be evaded by bankruptcy.
