My throttle cable is a single one with no return cable. It's been getting very sticky recently especially when the bars are turned to the right. (this bends the cable over on itself)

Would oiling it help much? Should I get a new cable? Can I put oil into it without disconnecting it from the carb? What oil do you use for this kind of thing?

Wanna get a GSR 600 (2009 model). I've test ridden once and I found it extremely comfy to ride while at the same time handling and suspension were above average compared to other naked Japanese bikes. The engine was also smooth as butter. What do you think /o/? Any alternatives with good stock suspension?

If anything it's agonizingly average in every department except for the willfully bad chain tensioner design (fail and grenades the whole motor) and shitty thermostat design that keeps the top end boiling lava hot and the crankcase icebox cold.

Aftermarket is pretty good, stock suspension is great too. They're balls cheap because they're third world as fuck.

Had fun on my bike this morning riding the more curvy roads in town and around the mountain. Had a great time till it I needed to return. Weather turned and was was a calm sunny day became a brown windstorm with 40-50mph gusts.

I am a new rider, just got endorsed today. I'm a poor fag so I need to squid a bit before I buy all my gear. First on the list is obviously helmet (borrowed one from a friend for class) but what should my list be after that? What I wore to class was a winter coat, jeans, mechanix gloves, and a pair of steel toe Red Wings boots.

I heard boots might be a good place to start for a second buy as they are generally the first thing to hit the ground, but I just wanted to get some other opinions.

today I laid down my bike. After we did a tour with more than 50 motos and eating sausages and shit, I rode home and my rear wheel slipped at 20-30kmh immediately away, the wet street was like ice there.

Ok guys, I'm a little frusterated now. I'm the DR guy everyone was yelling at to clean his carb a few days ago.

>bike starts running rough and sticking idle again but a little better than last time

So whats the next thing to check? Fuel filter? could it be an air filter problem? I doubt it's a choke sticking because I just replaced the cable maybe a month and a half-two months ago. Definitly still rideable and really isn't actually driving all the poorly but I'd like to figure out this idle issue. Someone a while ago mentioned maybe the valves? It's a 1998 but only has 4300 miles on it so I'm doubtful. Any help is appreciated.

I did my first valve check revently on a bike with 5k miles. They were quite a few 0.01mm's out.

Then check if problems are resolved. If not, clean carbs. If you skip a step, its hard to tell what the problem was.

tf are you on about? I took of the bowl and made sure it was clean, removed float, removed jets and made sure they were clean then put back in the correct position they came from factory. Then removed the head (?? forgot what this part is called but it's the top of the carb with the diaphragm and such) and cleaned all those part out good even though they looked pretty much spotless. Also cleaned the whole body of the carb and any passages in it. I followed the manual I got online to the T too. Like I said the bike started running well again right away but just now went back to running poorly.

The throttle bodies are in the center of the bike away from any likely harm. It would be nearly impossible to damage those from a drop without entirely fucking everything else on the bike.

If you drop a carbed bike on its side it spills fuel everywhere and floods, making it hard to start again.

How to check ingition timing? And yes, as soon as you take one side of the bikes fairing off you can see it clear as day. It looks quite black and dirty on the outside but I imagine they all look a little like that over time. and I recently changed out the smaller air filter that's under the seat (even though I don't quite understand why there's two air filters on the bike?) Can you clean the yellow foam around the air filter or do you need to buy a new one?

I cleaned the float real well and it seemed to move freely. But the issue I'm having is that at idle the bike will rev quite high, but if you were to say, come to a stop sign, and sit for a few seconds the idle goes back down around where it normally should be. The sticking float was my guess too but now I'm not so sure.

there's one screw to adjust the idle speed which basically just keeps the throttle from completely closing.
Then there should be another screw to adjust the fuel mixture at idle. You may also need to go up a size on the idle jet.
