Why don't you have a truck?
>>
>>15066075
I used to. Found I was never using it to haul shit and I never drove it because it was a bitch and a half to park. So, I sold it.
>>
I have no need for a truck.
>>
Because I have a car
>>
>>15066075
I did, a W200 but I wanted something different and no longer needed a tow vehicle.
>>
>>15066075
Because my wagon is practical enough for my needs, and it still handles like a car and gets good empeegees.
>>
>>15066075
Because posers who drive light duty trucks when they haul things maybe once a year are the worst type of faggot
>>
>>15066075
Can't wait to have another one actually. Hate driving a car although the turning and parking is handy. Sucks having to ask friends to take stuff for me almost anywhere we go.
Also nice since I drive 5 tons all day to have a personal truck.
>>
I do though.

Why would I want a truck? I don't do any hauling or physical labor that would require one

This is true as fuck. I have been hunting through wholesale/closed auctions for 3 months trying to find my mother-in-law a decent diesel truck for their farm, and can't find anything that is close to reasonable down south right now

Closest I got was a Chevy Avalanche 2500 with the 8.big-as-fuck gas engine that was leaking oil/diff/tranny fluid like crazy

I may consider one for my next vehicle.
I used to HATE trucks because of everything they stood for. And I've found myself driving my dad's Silverado recently and falling in love with it. I don't like the high stance/driving position, but I love the truck.
I've actually started fantasizing about getting a 99-03 regular cab, short bed 4WD Silverado (preferably with Quadrasteer) with a 5.3 or 6.0, converting it to full time AWD, dropping it a bit on a good handling Belltech suspension and going apeshit building the Vortec V8 engine.
Pic kinda related.

I don't need a truck. For anything. If I ever need a truck for anything, I can just borrow my dads or rent one for the day.

What's with the fucking meme of if you're not hauling 4000lbs of shit every day of the week, you have no use for a truck? You don't need 400hp in your grocery getter either, but it sure is nice to have when you need or want it.

I know this may come as a huge shock, but some people do use their trucks regularly, even if it isn't maxing out it's load capacity, beat to shit and ugly, or not lifted on 33" tires.

when all you have to move around is your dildos your car is fine. when there is work to do you need a truck

also trucks are very usable on a daily basis. a 1500 pickup makes for a decent daily driver. one of the most reliable vehicles you could own

I have a 3dr 90s hatchback, a sports car, and a truck. stop being poorfags
>>
>>15066438
Pretty sure he's saying he doesn't need to own one in his name, and if he did for, for reasons, he doesn't -need- it to be used as a truck, as he can borrow his dads/rent one.

>>
>>15066437
and I have no problem with people who use their trucks

my problem is with suburban desk jockeys who buy super duties with a gigantic dual cab where after six months the bed liner is still as pristine as it was when it got installed

I used to DD a Tundra when my job involved hauling shit, but when you don't haul shit past the load capacity of a Corolla on a regular basis and you drive a full size pickup, you're a poser

>>
>>15066476
Believe me, I wasn't defending those types, I 100% agree with you on the brodozers who don't actually use them. They're not offroading, they have no ground clearance, suspension, bumpers, lights, all the off road equipment, yet they're on pavement, at best they drive down a muddy dirt road. Let's not forget, you lift the things as high as most of them are, you're not using the bed for shit anyways as you can't readily load or unload shit from them.

The other week I had seen a sky-high lifted tacoma I think it was, short bed, and a single fucking 2x6 maybe 8 feet long strapped into the bed.
>>
>>15066476
>>15066501
God, it made me want to kill myself any time I had to go near Fort Bragg or Cherry Point here in NC. My brother in law was stationed in that area when he was still in the marines, and a fucking lifted brodozer truck was like heroin to kids in the marines/army, they couldn't wait to go throw money at one and drive it to any one of the fine strip clubs you could find around base
>>

Because I ain't gonna pull six feet of empty bed around with me every single fucking day in crammed Europe when I have absolutely nada use for it. Even if I did had to carry larger things regularly it would be cheaper and easier to attach a small utility trailer to my car, which will go a long way unless you very specifically want to pull a house sized boat or a house sized camper, of which I posess neither. Here in Germany mid sized cars are frequently rated to pull 3300 lbs, crossovers and large wagons up to 4400 lbs, and SUVs even 5500 lbs because we tow at lower speeds than Americans and can therefore decrease the tongue weight. You just gotta make sure the whole combination fits into the weight limit of your license, or pass an additional day long course granting you a higher weight limit for towing.

Have fun when your transmission @ diff's crap the fuck out after 100-150k miles (that's 160-240k of your cuckunites) because of that weight. Meanwhile, we'll be enjoying our 40+ year old trucks that have 300,000+ miles (480,000 cuckunites) and leak oil and spew greenhouse gasses at a whopping 7-13 miles per gallon and our trucks are happy as can be.

Also, I bet those 2.whogivesafuck liter engines sure love having to accelerate all that weight around, wonder how long that'll last.

Apart from a few rare exceptions the only people around here who actually have a legitimate use for a utility vehicle are tradesmen and the like, and for those exist far more practical vehicles than America's silly bed tray fitted, jacked up daily driver perversions. Our van based "Pritsche" trucks offer far more cargo volume at a shorter vehicle length, and unlike Americans we can afford to pave most of our roads, so the need for ground clearance and huge tires is limited.

>vw "truck" being anything but a piece of shit
You're making yourself look like a clown.
See pic related for a good one

We have plenty of pickups in Europe. The market is nowhere near the van one, or even the van based truck, but its there.
I own three pickups and I'm likely going to buy another soon.

The people buying pickups in Europe are either tradesmen or farmers with a family, or someone with a hobby like motorcycling or 4x4 or whatever.

Since 4 door pickups came about they have increased in populatity. Toyota sells 100k Hiluxes in the UK alone. Mitsubishi is not far behind with the L200.

Its a mostly a different market from fleet trucks and fleet vans.

Manual laborers get van based fleet trucks.
The pickup buyer is either the foreman or the owner of the company.

Peugeot actually made the greatest pickups of all time back in the day - the 404 and 504 and they sold very well in the Southern parts and farmers loved them enough that European production stretched all the way from the 70s to the mid 90s.

I got rear ended last month and my truck was totalled. Insurance gave me $8700 when I only paid $7000 for it 2 years ago so I can't complain too much I guess.
>>
>>15069250
Did you tell them you bought it for 10 grand or something?
>>
>>15068827
Because I don't want to be a truck driver. 4 wheelers drive like complete idiots, and I would lose my shit if I had to deal with it every day.
>>
>>15069749
That's not how car insurance works. The insurance company looks up what comparable vehicles (vehicles of similar age, condition, mileage, style, features, etc) are selling for in your area and comes up with a replacement value figure based on that. It has nothing to do with what you paid for the vehicle in the first place, they cut you a check for an amount that a used car lot in your area would generally sell that vehicle for.
>>
I have one, OP.

A 2wd 78 Chevy square body, long bed that was granddad's when it was new.

It comes out of the garage when I need to haul something or when I feel like driving it once a month or so.

> TFW you ask the clerk for lead substitute and they stare blankly for a few seconds
>>
>>15069806
Some insurance companies do ask what you paid though. I understand they look at a comparable vehicle but it seems like you'd have to just somehow get it below real value to get more from it being totaled.
>>
>>15069825
Nah, there's a sweet spot in the $7k-$10k pricerange where you can find a lot of good deals from private sellers while used car stealerships would list those same vehicles for $3k-$5k more. Of course the dealerships will come down a bit on the price but insurance companies look at what the average sticker price is in your area and goes with that. Also, vehicles in that pricerange with relatively low mileage in good condition don't depreciate very fast. I've had 2 vehicles totalled where the insurance company paid me more than I paid for the vehicle.

Because I hate the feeling of being 20 feet in the air. Even a minivan or crossover bothers me because it feels "floaty", like I'm sitting to high. Not sure how to describe it exactly but maybe I'm just too used to cars with a low ride or seating position.

All trucks took a turn for the worse sometime after 1997. If I were to get a new truck it would likely be the Nissan Navarra.

I've never actually seen a 1st and 2nd Gen Hilux. But I have seen a few Stouts.
My brother had an 81 Diesel crew cab Hilux.

It wasn't a bad truck, but the Peugeots are better in every way.

1250kg load capacity, steering so light that you can turn it with one finger, limited slip differential, and that million km Indenor Diesel.

Navara is probably going to be my next vehicle, and I hope to get it by this autumn

Only real alternative... HiLuxes are expensive for their age and miles, and also have only a 2.2 ton tow rating, D-Maxes are a bit too new and also high priced, so I'll only get a really beat to shit one with my budget.

L200's are OK, but somewhat rare and not all that great in terms of reliability. Also suffers from low tow rating

Rangers/BT50's are quite rare, and you'll need a large engine to get a proper tow rating, so that makes it way out of my budget

I have two of these monsters in my fleet and absolutely hate them.

Turbo may as well be made of peanut brittle.

Right now I'm waiting for the paperwork to clear to scrap them

I'd like to say that you're wrong, but then again my brother just recently got into the marines and as soon as he got out of bootcamp he got a 2013 mustang. Base model. V6. Automatic. Convertible. And white to top it off. His new wife helped him pick it out

Trucks are way too big for my little city. I'd love an old Ranger or something similar but all the ones on the used market here are beat to shit because they were owned by teenagers or meth cooks or teenage sons of meth cooks from the surrounding counties.

used to have a f150 flipped it during a really bad snow storm

Fun story, I'm a Navy E-6 who just bought a brand new 15 Mustang EB. Found out last month that my wife wants to divorce me. How the fuck am I going to pay for the car and the house? RIP my bank account.

Add on a hundred or so more pounds and she'll be a real dependapotamus.
Having a girl like pic related in the military is like announcing your cuckery.

Because nobody sells a small one in America.

I hope and pray that Ford's next Ranger isn't as fucking big as the FronTacoRado sold currently; the last gen's size was perfect. Regardless, if the engine is reliable and they go aluminum like they're did on the F-150/250 it might be my only choice.

But, just, the idea that a mid-size truck is small in any way save the back seat which shouldn't exist in the first place is just asinine.
>>
Because i have a 8ft utility trailer that my forester tows just fine.

You literally picked the worst fucking battlefield to pitch that argument on.

Introducing the Sprinter cargo van, a van so excellently built that you can stash all the stuff you have on that truck and the same mount of people- except it's on the inside and your shit doesn't get rained on and you also don't need tog et out to access it.
>>
Because all the trucks in this country are manual and my wife is an American so that explains itself. We can only afford one vehicle right now and she needs to be independently mobile so we just treat our poor sidekick like a truck.

>I need a 2 ton payload to carry 400 lbs of tools

While I like american duallys as much as anyone else you can carry all that shit in an F-150 just fine and a van would be even better. That is not even set up as a utility vehicle that is more like a contractor's pickup.

Pic related is a utility truck
