The modern V6 Mustangs and Camaros have over 300 horsepower. Why do you guys hate them? I am sure everyone would rather have the V8 versions, but not everyone shits gold bricks or wants to finance it for 100 years.

Point is, there is a lot more reasons to getting a car than just money. I have a 2015 LT2 RS Camaro that I bought new. The v8 version of the car was only $2000.00 or so more and I can assure you that it was not money that was holding me from getting the V8. I commute 25 miles to get to work 6 days a week and I don't need to accelerate .6 seconds faster to get on the interstate to get to work.

I paid outright for the car because I have the money, I also had the money for the SS, hell I had the money for the Z28. I bought this car pretty much after I landed my dream job with dream pay after finishing college. Looking back at it I probably would have gotten the V8 if I knew how to spend money like a person who did have money, but my 'puny' v6 is still fun to drive and I have no regrets about buying it.

I will say that the speed limiter originally was because of the drive shaft failing at ~130 mph but more so because of the economy tires fitted to the base models.

Same thing with my 2105 Jetta, 130 mph tires from factory and limited to 126.

It is somewhat comical that the mustang was limited to like 112 mph but I think the base tires were 120 mph rated.

Fixed it for you. It's auto's in my native language, so I'm used to typing that instead of autos. Still, those older NV units are shit compared to the newer outsourced ZF ones.

More speeds doesn't always make for a better gearbox. The NV unit has archaic software, is extremely unresponive, doesn't hold shifts very well etc. It shows it's age a lot, and a well built TH400 or 4L80 would probabpy feel better, despite being 3 and 4 speed units, respectively.

Then again, those cop Chargers having a shitty 5 speed autobox makes them really tempting to pick up, and stuff a manual into them. Any manual transmission from a Challenger should work.

Other than the sound, I'd personally take a V6 pony car for daily driving. I drive a 5.0 Mustang and the fuel costs alone are insane. I drive like an old person to save the money, and it takes all the fun out of it. I honestly wish I bought the V6 or Ecoboost most of the time.

That said, it is worth it on the track. But I only track it maybe once every 2 weeks.

There are a couple of reasons, but the biggest is the same thing that makes posters shit their pants on /v/ or /tv/, it's not the object that they hate, it's the people associated with it, even if that association is just some baseless generalization. Base mustangs / camaros have always been fine cars but because they are often bought by idiots they are associated with idiots, so you get a circular logic loop that these are cars made for idiots.

The second part of this is that /o/ is filled with children that can't be bothered to understand car history, relative power, product classes and marketing. All they understand is power and sucking the dick of their favorite brand because they don't have an identity outside of being an "______ car brand" guy.

The mustang is a cheaply made, inexpensive 'sporty' RWD coupe for middle americans that has always prioritized being affordable and 'fun' over being some kind of world-class sports car. It's had I6, V6, I4, and V8 models and all of those have been great, and sucked ass at various points in the history of the car. The baseline models is what keeps them being built because again middle america views them as a fun alternative to boring commuter cars even at their least powerful, and that in turn funds the V8 models that car lovers and inbred morons alike adore if only for the noise and the ability to afford so much power for so little.

Mustangs are also a famous case of "get the car to suit you" they've always had tons of models, tons of options, and lots of little pointless detailing to style the car to suit the owner. A mustang is purposefully modular and has to cover a wide range of consumer tastes and needs. Again this isn't a sports car, and "muscle" car is an extremely niche term that idiots apply to far too many things. A few mustangs are muscle cars, most are RWD fun-mobiles for women, teenagers, and people that are tired of their 10 year old hyundai.
