For the majority the decision to let you pass was made before they even see you. Either they are nice and let you pass or they are assholes and won't let you pass regardless

IMO very aggressive tailgating doesn't work - just pisses off people who wanted to let you by ahead and makes them go slower and lets the assholes who wouldn't let you pass have a nice rise out of you.

I find it best to stay closeish, never let them pull away too far or just pull over yourself, take a 5 min break and once the road is clear far enough down keep going.

It's about handling, wheel placement, knowing everything about your vehicle and control.

Some time in the summer I want to do a Cow mountain or Hollister hills meet what's people who show try out what it's like.

That said rock crawling isn't the most important thing for me though. I love the exploring/trail running part way more.
Going to some out of the way mine through feet of snow to ask abandoned mine in the middle of the Sierras, then going into a valley with a semi permanent sandstorm and dunes.
Driving out into the middle of Nevada to rocks covered in Petroglyph's hardly anyone knows about and aren't listed anywhere online except as a 4 digit code.
Tearing through the desert at 60 - 70 mph on dirt roads, flying over ruts and raising a dust cloud miles long.
Watching another vehicle roll over, getting it back up, fixing the flooded engine and watching it drive out under it's own power.

it doesn't really matter the sequence you do it in, as long as the desired effect is accomplished without disturbing the car/ transferring weight.

personally, I double clutch all downshifts, so my sequence is

clutch in, move to neutral, clutch out, blip throttle
clutch in, select gear, clutch out

it's extremely smooth and i practice it all the time so it's not any slower.

Hey guys I'm shopping for a new car to do meets in and learn how into stick. I tested this thing out along with the purple mustang guy and while I didn't buy it since it's absolutely unsuitable for someone learning stick I found that it would be an awesome beater for someone who wants something fast they don't mind wrecking. It has 180hp, 6-speed manual, almost 9k redline, low miles (basically a Toyota engine) but the interior/exterior are really worn out. The dealer is desperate to sell, I bet he would take 2.5 or even 2k for it.

My first thought was that I can finally go to my first WAT meet since I'm going to have a car of my own again in a couple of days (my first car didn't pass emissions because of stuff the previous owner messed up, decided I'd just borrow my mommy's car until I found another car since I felt I was ready to move away from my learner). I'm buying an RX8 which I'm excited to to try out on more open roads, but then I remembered that I'm also buying a manual and I don't know how to drive manual yet. Probably not a good idea to drive all the way up there from LA with only a week's worth of manual experience.
