I work at Toys R Us making only like $1100 a month. $300 of that goes to bills, about $150 for gas sometimes more, ~$300 saved and most of the rest on food because I go to restaurants a lot. It's not great in SoCal but I'm most likely getting a supervisor position soon with a pay raise.
>>
Just got a new job at Amazon. At minimum (40 hours a week) I make $1600 a month after tax, +4% more if you have perfect attendance, +4% more if your team gives 105%. Plenty of opportunity for OT, they offer it pretty much year round. Been there all of a month and the managers love me, pretty much first in line for advancement at this point.

Saving up to move out and then buy a car I really like. Gonna be an 3rd gen F-body but I'm not sure whether to get a Trans Am, normal Firebird, or Camaro yet.

CNC Programmer.

I work 65+ hours a week.

It's killing my ability to wrench on weekends. I get 1 day a week to wrench.

the plus side tho, I'm making some serious cash. I may be a wage slave, but it's allowing me to buy some bigger, nastier engine parts.

The money is there. Unfortunately I have absolutely no time to do anything. I work 365 8 hour shifts a year. I get every other weekend off.

No. It's the reason I'm looking to move out of the rust belt. Set on New Mexico. Going to start looking for a place next week. Hoping like hell I can get out of Michigan by July at the latest.

I'm an industrial technician. I do R&D work, which means I'm the guy that tells engineers: "I told you so" on a daily basis.

It's nice because I'm constantly doing something different every day, whether it be welding, spinning wrenches, or making wiring harnesses, plus it pays very well. I also get to travel the globe to install our bigger machines.

It's helped me accumulate all of my tools, and if I ever need something I don't have, I just pull one of my cars into one of our warehouses and do the work there.

I've learned a lot, and it has made me extremely confident working on every inch of my vehicle whether it be wiring, suspension, or drive train.

I'm a Project/Account manager for a direct mail/printing company.

I'm pretty happy with it. I lost a little over 10k a year taking this job but it got me back to my hometown where I'm way happier. Went from 70 hour work weeks open/closing a big store where I was constantly running around and at times highly stressed working most weekends and holidays to an 8-5 monday-friday job with most holidays off.

Isn't the most exciting work but in my opinion it's easy and I enjoy a set schedule and not feeling like death every night and stressed out about work even when I'm not at work.

Midas, Jiffy Lube, stuff like that will definitely get you around cars. Unfortunately, not the cool ones. You'll get landbarges owned by niggers that don't take care of themselves much less the car, certified pre-owned™ "new" cars that aren't covered by warranty, and rust buckets that is you're surprised are still running.
You will never, I repeat NEVER get something like an RX7 or poopra in the garage. Those cars are usually owned by competent* people. But if you just want to work around cars, by all means go for it.

*by competent I mean are able to do their own preventative maintenance

exactly. I was 3 hours away from home working for Target making good money but 70+ hours. No friends really. It was my college town but all the friends I had went to school with had graduated with me and left.
Just had my gf left whom I had a downhill trend going on with since the month before I moved back up there for the job in november.
By mid february I realized when summer hit with my schedule and no access to any place to work on my shit or anything - that I wouldn't be able to do anything with all my car/motorcycle.. I'd miss most family gatherings.

decided then that even if I couldn't find a decent job back home I was going to move back.

Got lucky and got my job now. Moved back. Broke up with my gf. Moved back into home. It's funny because it sounds like it'd be bad to most people - moving back in with parent(s), ending a long term relationship, taking a paycut.

For me though - it made me worlds happier. Can't even describe how much more mentally and even physically happier I am.

job is easy AF. I work really hard and am usually busy. Others are totally lazy and milk it.

Job is ok. Pay is meh 60k, with pension and benefits its more like 110k if I stay here. Doesn't go far in California. Wife has a similar job and we live modestly.

Drive a shitty econobox, want to move to another pos 300td wagon pretty soon. We'll see.

One of the libraries I manage is in the barrio across from a repair shop. I get to see cool cars and 40s/50s customs all the time. Pretty cool.

In college, work at a dollar store. Drive a '99 ls400, love it. Saving cash up to mod it. Have a squad and we all drive older jap crap. Not a bad lifestyle imo, although Cali is expensive.

Good news. The storm last night played hell with the small business computers around here and was swamped with calls. Full appt book through Thurs of next week. Made the rent in full today. Cars are about to be back on the road. I hate taking taxis.

Life is good.

Working at a Western star/freightliner dealer. Been there since I was 18. Im 22 now. Got gud really quick. Making $24 an hour or $27 an hour working night shift. Mostly all I do is electronic diagnostics and engine work so I don't actually work that hard. Pretty happy yes.

On the flip side I'm 22, have a 2 year old daughter, seperated, mortgage on a house I don't really care for, and drink too much beer.

I'm into year 3 of a frame off build of a 1979 f150. Several parts trucks and atvs and dirtbikes. I plan to get my bike licence this year and sell my house in the next few years to buy an acreage.

I really need to budget better

work at kroger, make 18.22 / hr, I drive a 12 hatchback focus, but only the se model. Just bought a dual sport as well, learning to ride is fun.
I don't really enjoy the job but I don't hate it either. It pays the bills.

18 dollars and 22 cents an hour?

Yeah? CPI increases causes weird wages.

I used to work at a track prep shop. I was mostly on the "technical" side of it, doing corner balances and alignments, building and setting up shocks, measuring cars and designing cages and aero parts in CAD, teaching new techs how to do certain stuff etc. I also did a lot of the office and marketing work and was the fabricator's main assistant when welding stuff up.

We had a racing team and I was the crew chief for a while too, but we switched to a LM-style team format where the race engineer was in charge of the pit crew and I was more of a general team manager and the guy who talked to media etc.

I quit to go back to college though, I really enjoyed the marketing and media relations parts of the job, and am getting my degree in the hopes of doing it for an IMSA team or something.

Certified industrial automatics and IT engineer.
Got bored sitting in an office so I went to college and requalified as gas service and installation engineer
I normally install and fix domestic gas boilers, which is piss easy when you're mechanically inclined and have extensive electronics knowledge, yeah I kind of like it since I fixed stuff that has been attempted by 4 other guys before me and they all gave up, the kind of praise I get moments like those, who wouldnt like (and huge tips), from single mums for getting their heat back on mid winter without a new boiler. Kek.

I currently work as a supervisor in a 15 storey hotel. Supervising plumbing installation. Nothing to do with gas but who cares.
£900 / 5 day week, £3600 / month + £600 bonus if I do Saturdays as well.

/o/ lifestyle consists of 2x 7th gen 5 door Civics, grey is stock K20A3 and red was the same but engine swapped for K20A2 (by me) and Kpro'd Type-R ECU. It moves like theres no tomorrow. Had to get 5 door because missus concerned she cant exit in case it rolls with her and 3 yo daughter in the back, lel, so I gave her that.

Yeah im pretty happy.

I dropped out of college, started repairing windows, and purchased a Porsche that needs work done to it.

Am programmer. lt's a well paying job and not physically taxing, does tire the brain though. l'd say it finances a wrenching activity rather well while being physically a rather different kind of activity so one doesn't make the other boring but mentally somewhat similar because both subjects are closed systems so a revelation in either can carry wisdom to the other.

Is this a kind of work I can get into after a technician course or does it require some serious knowledge/experience?

I've been doing electrical engineering degree but I know/practice nothing so I don't expect to find a job. Neither am I talented/experienced in anything. I want not to go full McDonald's in my future. :(

It's ruining it. It makes me hate car enthusiasts which in turn makes me hate cars... :(

I love my job.

Linux Sysadmin/cloud/devops at a web design company.

Pay's good, only going to get better. Traditional sysadminning is going the way of the dodo bird. WOuld like to get into networking and security as well.

I'd advise anyone with an ounce of aptitude, skill, or interest in IT to get in while the gettings good.

Living in St. Louis, this gets me pretty far. Am going steady with my 2010 Mazda3, am going to get a sports or muscle car in a couple years along with a starter bike.
