Why don't you have a Dual Sport bike yet?
>>
i have 2
>>
I have a 125cc Suzuki dual sport. It doesn't run. Even if it did I wouldn't ride it on the roads its so slow.
>>
>>14988997
I'm not poor so in addition to my dualsport, I have a literpiter
>>
>>14988997
The plated cr500 I was looking at sold.
>>
I want into dualsport/enduro.

What is good starter bike <$500?

Preferably vintage to some extent
>>
>>14989957
Nothing.
And fuck this thread /dbt/ already exists
>>
>>14989957
Where you at? If canuck maybe a Yamaha DT

thats what happens when you're a tire kicker, I've missed out on a couple of deals because I took too long to act
>>
>>14989957
just save up about 1,3000 and lurk craigslist until you see a plated vintage bike come up
>>
>>14989957
>Vintage
prepare to have everything break down on you.
>>
Because my TL1000s does exactly what my XR400r can't, which is why I have both.
>>
I have three, faggot.
>>
>>14990643
>Ruined xt500
Fucking hipster cunts.
>>
Bought a DR350 to tour the Americas this Summer. Kitting it out currently.
>>
Would a DRZ400E be a good dual-sport for a guy who's been riding road-only for about three years?
>>
Because i have both a proper dirt bike and a road bike.
>>
because i live in germany and there is no place i could go offroad without getting fined
except mx-tracks you have to pay for
>>
>>14989229

I was going to trade my plated 450r for a plated 500AF. I like to think I made the right decision.

>>

I just picked up an 03 WR450f.
Turns out...
>no brake switch from factory
>no factory speedo
>no factory mirror
>no key
>no plate mount
>touch any intake or exhaust part it will need a re-jet.
Great bike. But damn I've spent $300 after purchase and haven't gotten to ride it yet.
>>
>>14990847
Meh. It's a great bike. But a bit slow and usually over priced.

What kind of dual sport riding do you guys do? I like to just cruise around back roads and take little detours off-road whenever I find a good place.
>tfw I'm one of the shitcunts that lets their dual sport live a life of 90% pavement

>no brake switch from factory

Yes that tends to be the case with enduros that aren't made for road use.

>>
>>14991457

Didn't use to be.
Also they were all factory options. Mine just didn't have them.
Also I wasn't complaining.
Also I bet you're from /dbt/ so kill yourself

In the US that has always been the case for most bikes. The off-road-only models get sold with minimal shit, and the dual sports get sold with all that shit and are factory street legal.
I guess you're not from the US then.
I don't know what you would call it when you express dislike for certain attributes of something, if not complaining.
I'm already ded.
>>
>>14989957
literally nothing. cheapest dual sport bikes that run, at least here on the east coast, md/wv area are going to be tw200's and shit for like $1200. older stuff sucks, dt200's and whatnot have drum brakes and like 5 inches of travel. no good for much of anything.

is that a shinko 244 front tire? i just put a set on my xt350, love them considering the set was $90 haha. also change your rear tire. if it works it means your doing enough dirt.
>>
>>14991839
Yeah it's a 244 on the front and 705 on the rear. The rear surprised me how well it did off-road. I can even even get enough traction to do wheelies on grass. It does well enough for me as long as it isn't muddy, and I'm not going to change it. I go through rear tires fast enough as it is so I don't want to change to anything softer/knobbier.
>>
>>14991894
Are they China tires?
Everyone told me to avoid them because they may explode at 65mph
>>
>>14991894
fair enough, like I said I run 244's front and rear and love them, just the right amount of traction for the kind of woodsy/rocks/mud that we have here, and they do amazingly well on the road. 8.5/10 will buy again. moving up to either a drz or xr650 soon, cant really decide.
>>
>>14991907
Maybe.
>>
>>14991907
ive never heard of them doing that.. i've hit 65 and didnt ded sooo

The DRZ isn't really impressive in any way. I kind of wish I hadn't gotten one.
>>
>>14991929
The reviews on the 244 seem great. Just some reports of knobs falling off or cracking.
>>
>>14991932
i know they are kind of middle of the road, but im moving up from a lame-ish 95 xt350. i cant decide if i want an xr650 and have a better road ride but slightly harder time offroad, or drz for meh both teir. But I want to do a big adventure ride next summer when I graduate college, so im leaning towards the xr

Had an XT600 years ago. Was super heavy. But was a good bike.
Unfortunately was stolen and never recovered.
>>
Thoughts on a 2006 Suzuki RMZ 250? I'm completely new to dual sports and bikes in general. This would be my first motorized bike. I'm also 5'6", will this be too tall?
>>
>>14992933
It'll be fine for in town stuff. Will struggle over 45mph.
Most bikes are too tall. I had to lower my WR 2 inches.
>>
>>14992933
for one, its a dirtbike and will not have any of the stuff to be street legal
two, it might be a little tall for you as a rookie, the power may also get you acquainted with the ground too
>>
>>14991815

Here in Wisconsin I have not seen a drivable TW200 sell for under $2000. Which sucks because I want one
>>
>>14993431
How much did it cost to lower?

>>14993432
>the power may also get you acquainted with the ground too
lel

Some here are street legal, but this one isn't as I just found out by the seller.
>>
>>14993694
Lowered it for free. You just install spacers to keep it from extending all the way. DO NOT try doing this without professional help. You can fuck shit up
>>
>>14993720
Thanks. This gives me a lot more options now.
>>
>>14993694
many bikes have lowering links available from places like koubalink
be warned though, it alters the geometry and softens the rear end so youll need to make some adjustments on it.

Is this a good idea for a first bike? It's most likely going to to be used off road %50 of the time.
I was going to buy it before I saw you guys shitting on the DRZ for off road use.

Where?
>>
>>14989957
Yeah, no. Seriously, in spite of the sarcasm take the advice. Save up and buy something better. If you really want vintage, then save up and find something well restored and well maintained. Vintage bikes, even when cheap, end up expensive. If you break something, odds are parts are gonna cost you an eye.

Even though I'm 6ft tall, I don't like 'taller' or 'bigger' bikes. I weigh 155 lbs, I'm pretty thin.

Whats a good smaller dual sport? Sat on a DRZ400 SM. Seemed too tall for me. Would prefer something Japanese.
>>
>>14995863
Most are just gonna be tall
>>
>>14995876

I'm perfect comfortable riding around on my pitbike, I hate tall bikes.

im 5'9 and my XR650 is comfortable everywhere but tight singletrack, with a lowering link and a shorter seat it would be much better in the woods. as far as street riding a tall bike isnt such a big deal unless you are in stop and go traffic

Can anyone help me I fucked up my dads drz 400. I dropped it on its left side and the shifter went through the engine cover and made a hole. When that happened it could still start but after we replaced the engine cover it no longer starts. Any idea of where we fucked up in the process?
