I've been trucking for about two years now and have had my fair share of woopsies. I started out as a rookie driver without really having driven that much prior(Started driving a car when I was 22). What has happened over two years is...

Minor backing accident during training(Guard lowered guard arm after being asked not to)

Got stuck in mud trying to hook up to a trailer(front fairing damaged)

Jackknife in Wyoming(Tractor cosmetically damage on the cab, no damage to engine or trailer)

Got stuck again after my driver's side tandems dipped into some very deep mud

Backing accident(First actual) while angling it into a hole, trailer dipped into an opening on the passanger side and leaned into the other trailer

Just how much of a fuck-up am I? It's been about 8 months since I had anything happen.

My aunt and uncle started a trucking company a couple of years ago. They have him driving, plus two other drivers while she dispatches. All three trailers and trucks are paid off and they're doing ok, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice I could pass on to them about growing their business, or looking into specific loads/routes.

I see them once or twice a month and I find the business kind of interesting. There's even been some talk of me jumping into it with them if they expand it out even further. I think they primarily get loads via CHRobinson (which I've heard mixed things about) and ABT360 I think? Or something 360.

If you're a car, at least a truck length (65 feet) in front or behind. In front only if you're accelerating away. Most OTR and long regional driving happens overnight. Like, start day at 6pm and end at 8am. Helps when shipper/receivers allow sleeping at their yards etc.

Most expedited stuff I do has a 6-8am delivery window so I'll drive till del point and then pass out. Wake up and pickup and head back.

Could be worse, in a month and a half as a switcher I almost rolled a trailer because I forgot a load stand on one side while putting it up on door to unload.

I had three instances of backing into a parked trailer while parking an empty.

I ran over a stack of cones which wedged between the axle and pavement, which was fun to undo.

I've also skipped the pin, in switcher no less.

What got me a suspension was clipping the mudflap bracket on the other switcher with a trailer and blowing out the outside tire of said trailer.

I took the physical for my medical card (CDL school wanted it) but only got certified for 90 days because they said my bmi is 35 and need a sleep apnea test. I got my interstate CDL with it but still have not taken the sleep test and it expires in 20 days.

So my question is if my card expires I only loose intrastate privileges correct? If I do have sleep apnea it turns out I have to use it for 30 days so my medical card will expire. Can I get another physical and avoid the whole sleep test altogether if my bmi is 34 and under?

Bit the bullet today, and expanded the operation.

Loan for 400k to go with the 100k kicking around in my account since I paid off the truck loan. Expanded the depot, and bought two new trucks. One big old-styled Kenworth for me, depositing the original smaller one onto a new employee. Then picked up a daycab of the same model for a second employee. I'll upgrade them to a sleeper when I get some more cash.

I shouldn't have added the fuckhuge visor. I kept losing traffic lights until I jacked the seat down a bit, but there's still next to no visibility out the front. I like the little window in the passenger footwell, though.
And I got a big spoiler on top because chrome.

Now I'm hauling diesel to the southernmost point of California, and hoping it'll pay out before the loan payments send me into the red.
Or that my new employees will pay for themselves.

Welp. One of my air tanks has a plug in it that isn't threaded in, but appears to be some spring loaded device. Anyway, something either hit it head on or someones hit it with a hammer or something because its leaking air now and visibly moves when I poke at it. Subject: an old ass driver who got lost on my street, turned around at the CNG filling station, slowed down to 3mph in front of me, at which point he pulled off onto the shoulder and immediately got stuck in the mud. Also he doesn't have a bumper, which is good.

Back to Europe for a while, because I missed my Scania.

Just had a load rejected. Got caught by the quickest red light ever last night. Didn't feel like I stopped that hard but I guess it was enough to slide these big boxes of loose beef forward a couple of feet. Receiver says they can't unload them.

Roehl essentially bought an entire city block and surrounded it with barbed wire to build this terminal.

The worst part is we share this road with 5 other trucking companies, and the city of Gary won't fix it correctly, even after a few of the bigger companies put forward something like a half mil to fix the drainage and reinforce the pad.

Roehl's phase II program is notoriously short, which is a selling point for most sane people (because sharing a dog kennel with another person for more than a few hours is shite no matter which way you hack it), and really I would be fine with that if all you had to learn was how to drive and go backwards, because that's the easy part and all the bona fide retards have been sent home at that point.

This new program with us locals is a step in the right direction, but now there just aren't enough of us and we get students that just skip it.
