How many of you are actually good?

Actually good defined as getting at least within 2-3% of world record times (1:40 is 100 seconds so 2-3% is usually around 2-3 seconds)

Supposedly Gran Turismo Sport is the best looking game in Sony's lineup.

A bunch of tweets came out hinting at Gran Turismo this week. My guess is an NDA is involved.

GT5 was much better looking than GT6
>>
>>14945831
There's a reason that 10 times out of 10 when a raceteam wants to evaluate a driver they put him in the car and see what laptimes he can do. Everything else is secondary.

You can deal with poor racecraft, especially as the race goes on and the field thins out. But if your best times are slower than the field there's absolutely nothing you can do
>>
>>14945931
There's a reason 10 times out of 10 unless someone brings Pastor bucks they get fired if they finish like shit every race and smash the car to pieces half the time.
>>
>>14945931
Because laptimes are a simple metric to measure. However, teams will look at their tyres, telemetry data, and general consistency to get a better idea of the driver. But, it should be said if you display poor racecraft you'll end up like Vadim Kogay. The laptimes are what will get you into your first season, everything else will determine if you get anymore.

I think the static camera angle he went with was plenty enjoyable as is, I actually prefer it over yours because it gives a very clear and natural sense of progression to the video and also allows for a higher quality level than moving shots.

It seems like the slowest place you have going is the tighter corners, you carry no momentum at all and basically stop during the turn which you should never do unless it is the fucking worst hairpin of all time. Work on getting comfortable carrying a bit more speed around slower corners and also getting to know the courses will help a lot.

Honestly just drive whatever. If you really do have a tuned up car close to the HP limit you will simply dominate the races, and in fact you can go far lower than the HP limit for even the slightest bit of challenge if your car handles well enough. I've won 591 hp races with a tuned up 360 hp Silvia K's in the past, and unlimited hp All-Stars races with a 413 hp Daishin Silvia touring car.

Black Flag: A Crash Course in Sim Racing contains many written references and visual screenshots featuring a multitude of real world individuals, brands, vehicles, locations, auto racing series, soft-ware, and software elements. The inclusion of these individuals and intellectual properties as refer-ence material or as seen in images is protected under fair use—this is an educational document in-tending to teach people how to play a certain subgenre of video games in a successful and rewarding manner. switch to manual (sequential) gear shifting

it's easier to judge your speed from knowing what gear you're in (and at what RPM from how high-pitched the engine is revving) than looking down on the speed gauge or guesstimating from how fast the corner is coming up

then you can memory-map gear and RPM to corner severity (read by your co-driver). so for example, for a left/right three you would go fourth gear at low-ish RPM

shifting itself isn't difficult. engine is high-pitched = shift up, engine is barely growling = shift down.

Guys, is there really any point in buying T500RS when I'm very comfortable with my g27 and making pretty good lap times? It's not like with better wheel I suddenly become better driver, is it? Many pro racers use Logitechs aswell. I'm not very rich and would rather buy two addictional monitors for better FOV and situational awareness, because for now I'm driving with only one. What's you opinion?
>>
>>14950224
two monitors are worth more than a T500RS. If you really want a belt-driven wheel, get the T300 series with the additional pedals from the T500. It will run you cheaper + you will be able to use it with consoles too.

>>14950239
Nah, not that expensive monitors, I could buy two cheap ones, I just want to see sides of my car and that's all. And I don't give a shit about consoles, had PS3 couple years ago but now only PC and it won't change looking at list of racing games on consoles (Forza 7 will probably be on PC so fuck it).
>>
>>14950269
i just meant the T300RS + pedals version will run you less than the T500RS set, especially since you can sell the standard T300 pedals for a few bucks as well. Obviously 2 cheap monitors will be cheaper than a belt-driven wheel.

? Don't you get increased engine-braking when you -up-shift actually ?
Since the revs will get lower hence the engine will run slower

>>
I am confused. So, is it okay if i shift down and feel more stable about it or not?

I guess i'll just try to play without those downshifts for a moment. I always felt like i'm slowing down too much.

You keep popping down a gear when you shouldn't.
Like at around the 1:10 mark, you're at the top of 4th but you're going down to 3rd, not only are you killing your acceleration, but if that were a real car, you wouldn't destroyed that engine. Just stay in 4th.
You do the same thing at 1:40 and throughout the video during the bouncy straights. You don't have to downshift everytime you're off the throttle.

Also, at :22 you shouldn't have gone into 1st gear. That was probably a 3rd gear corner, 2nd at the least. Only downshift if you feel like the engine is bogging down/out of it's powerband.

The driving itself is pretty decent, but I feel like you're losing all your time and acceleration due to bad gear selection.
>>
14951253
Ok, I'll test it.
>>
>>14950535
engine braking occurs when the pistons are pulling against the vacuum created by a closed throttle. If the throttle is closed, the engine creates more vacuum in the intake manifold as it spins faster, thus more engine braking.

If you were to downshift and open the throttle again, you will have no engine braking, but if you downshift and coast, you are using engine braking.

>>14950552
>no, engine-brake = difference between engine RPM and driveshaft RPM. thus the higher the engine RPM the bigger the difference to driveshaft RPM and the higher the engine-brake

that's wrong, what you describe is clutch braking. The engine is almost always rotating at a different speed than the driveshaft, that's how transmissions work.
To simply have a difference in shaft speed versus engine speed does not cause engine braking, it is caused by the action of the pistons against the closed throttle plate and can occur in every gear, but is obviously more apparent when the engine has the mechanical advantage in lower gears.

Engine braking physically happens, but as far as maximum deceleration it's actually a meme unless your brakes are too shitty to lock up the driven wheels. The only time it's sort of necessary is in a high speed corner when you want a small amount of rear brake only for rotation.

Now for some people the dynamic change in front:rear braking force is desirable but it can be achieved in other ways too..

Morons who use chase cam in games and don't notice the camera is moving around don't get to bitch about physics.

The chase in AC moves with inertia and steering.
If you use a 360 controller and tap-steer, it looks absolutely retarded and jittery, yes. You can change the view settings to not respond to lateral movement, so the camera is glued to the back of the car like in Gran Turismo.

I agree, the chase cam is awful in every respect. The major failure is that, unlike most other games, the car is not allowed to rotate in the viewport, instead you get the jittery side-to-side movement with can really fuck up your perception of what the vehicle is actually doing.
The major benefit to a chase cam is that you can see the tires and the relationship between the movements of the car's body and suspension, but AC's camera is rigid and terrible, as it also leans with the car body making it difficult to see body roll or discern tire grip visually.

imo Forza has the best chase cams. They offer quite a bit of viewport rotation, making it easy to drive the car hard and get a little sideways. You can watch the front wheels as you slide sideways, ensuring the player can control the slide. With AC's cam, everything feels unnecessarily snappy and discourages the player from cornering over the limit. You have to guess at the position of your front wheels based purely on steering feel, and at that point you might as well be using the cockpit cam.

also Assetto Corsa does not support POV hats as controls, meaning that the D-pad on the G27 and G29 cannot be used for glancing or any other control.

How else? I mean, besides cockpit or over the hood pov, how do you race in a sim?
I mean, the idea of playing sims or simcades is to simulate the experience.

In a game you have no buttfeels so it's incredibly important to know precisely how the car reacts to your input. Force feedback is not enough, you have to watch the car externally to really understand, and a replay is not as helpful.
When I race sims, I use cockpit cam and crank the wheel skid volume up, as the sound of your tires is a good indicator of what they're doing, what you're doing to them, and how much grip they have. During practice, I often switch to chase cam for a lap or two and religiously watch my own replays.

You can make note of weight transfer, body roll, how the wheels interact with the kerbs, how the body reacts to bumps, braking and acceleration, things that you can only assume from the cockpit because you can't feel them, you merely see the reaction of the cockpit model and camera.

The G29's d-pad is literally on the wheel, in a perfect spot for your left thumb to hit it. On the 27, the D-pad could be assigned to brake balance, boost pressure, or some other option, if Kunos actually gave a shit. But no, let's make the boost pressure take up the entire numeric row of the keyboard like it's Microsoft fucking Flight Simulator.

Also that's what d-pads are for, they're not called point-of-view for nothing.

I've dug up my copy of The Crew again yesterday and no matter which option for Anti-Aliasin i choose i always get jaggies. (8xMsAA also kills the Framerate quite a bit). Everything on Ultra too.
