How to take photographs like this? Do I need an older digital camera to achieve these effects?
>>14946411
Not the anon that asked this, but bumping for interest in this question, too.

I think the cheapest way would be to go to a thrift store and get a second hand camera with film. I have no idea where you can get film developd these days though
>>14946850
you develop it yourself.
>>14946850
You can still get (mostly expired) disposable cameras for cheap that work well.
And some drugstores still develop film. A lot of schools have darkrooms too, or you can do it yourself.
>>14946850
I've been meaning to visit a thrift store for a while now exactly for that reason. Also want some older audio equipment.
Costco, Walgreen's, Walmart and a few other stores still develop film.
>>14946411
you can do this with digital
you just need massive light modifiers
I'm still using dodgy diy gear without any light stands
I wish I had some money
>>14947005
The light on the car looks p great, how'd you achieve that? A darker background would look much better too
>>14947022
I might try this again with a dark background
I used a homemade stripbox (around 30x80cm in area) with a cheap led torch, and ran it across the top of the car in one 30 second exposure
used another 30 sec exposure to fix up the light trail it left
>>14946411
Learn how to photography and use lighting and you can do it with just about anything.
>>14947038
did this by just shooting 2 external flashes on radio at the white car park ceiling
shooting on a budget makes you get creative when it comes to lighting methods
>>14947062
>>14947005
dude these look dope, saved. I really need to get into photography. what does your strip box look like? not sure what that even is desu
>>14947069
thanks man
strip box doesn't look very glamorous haha, it's like this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/925400-REG/westcott_2032_rapid_box_strip.html but homemade
it's essentially a few bits of cardboard taped together, with the inside lined with tin foil, and the diffusion layer just being a piece of baking paper
seems to do the job, although it doesn't look overly professional
here's another shot using a car park ceiling
you can pretty much use any clean white surface as a massive softbox by shooting a flash at it, that's what I'm going for with these shots
>>14947096
ah I see, for that soft lighting effect. what kind of camera do you use?
>>14947132
I shoot with a canon 60d, although the camera isn't quite as important as the lighting when it comes to this kind of shooting
a well lit car photo shot on an 8 year old dslr will always look better than a badly lit car photo shot on a brand new flagship pro dslr

Thanks to the guys who also responded in /p/
>>14947162
the way I lit the car involved moving a torch over the top of the car by hand, with the shutter open on the camera
if the torch is within frame while you do this, you end up with a light trail in the air across the top of the car, sometimes people intentionally leave these in
>>14947179
the motor madness threads are always nice
>>14946411
You need shitty old magazine print.
>>14947152
I see. currently I have no camera besides my galaxy s6 which has a really wonky lens. it bends pictures badly. I also sometimes borrow my brothers Canon Rebel I think is what it is, but I want to buy a starter slr camera
>>14947191
Just keep in mind, you can take pro looking photos with the right lighting and know how. Learn to use the setting, never use anything auto. With a starter dslr youll be set
>fstop
>aperture
>exposure
>>14947191
given the prices of used dslrs, they're you're best bet if you want to start off in photography, you can grab something like a used canon 40d for around $200 in australia now
for this kind of shooting, you want fully manual controls (exposure, white balance, focus), especially when merging multiple shots, for obvious reasons
I'd go for a dslr for the sensor size also, as you'll probably run into issues with noise (especially for night shoots) if shooting with a point and shoot or something similar
>>14947212
nice. any recs for a good used starter dslr?
>>14947213
Canon 40D eh? I'll look out for one of those on craigslist or something.
Yeah I've definitely noticed a lot of noise at night with point and shoots. the lens isn't big enough.
>>14944502
why with the front plate

>>14947298
the 40d is good imo, as it has easily accessible full manual controls, is rather well built, and the noise performance is good enough to start off with, I think
I'll probably change this rule when I finally get a newer body, but I try to never go over iso 400 when shooting static shots like this
>>14944502

FTFY
here's another one I rather liked, again done with 2 flashes shot at the ceiling
cheated a bit by photoshopping a white background in though
Buy a cheap-o camera body. 40D, 60D from Canon or D3000/3100 or D5000 are all good choices. Then drop some dime on a good lens, 50mm is your best bet. You can also rent this so you're not dropping a ton of cash all at once and only use it when you need it. Then get lighting. Lighting is more important than ANYTHING else in photography.

I just don't have any magazine shots of Jap stuff like this.

American cars are just shit. Hyundais are better. ESPECIALLY 70s/80s american cars. I can think of literally nothing worse.
Anyone have any Chrysler stuff going on?
>>14950555
>cars from this certain place sucked
If you compare cars from the same time period and price range they perform about the same no matter where they where produced. I generally like all performance cars from the 80's and 90's, and if I shit up this thread so bad why don't you post something instead of just complaining like a faget.
