Hey what's up /o/,

I come from /g/, and I have been looking around this board for the past few days and have wondered to myself, what is the /o/ equivalent to our lenovo thinkpad (model T420/x220 or earlier)? Reasons we like it
>cheap as fuck to buy used
>amazing keyboard
>rugged business-class durability and build quality
>easy to service and maintain
>can easily swap out parts that no longer work
>have that cool retro aesthetic

and I was wondering if there is a car (or cars) on here that you guys like the same way /g/ likes the old thinkpads. If I had to guess I'd say it was the miata because I see so many miata threads and there's always a miata general up
>>
>>14908421
>rugged business-class durability and build quality

I see you completely fell for the Chinese Thinkpad meme.

In that case, check out BYD.

>amazing handling
>good durability
>easy to service
>huge aftermarket to swap out any parts
>pop up headlights
>>
Probably something like an EG or EK Honda Civic hatchback actually. God tier 90s styling, cheap, lasts forever, easy to work on, great suspension design and you can fit whatever Honda i4 you want in there. Ricers may have ruined the image of civics but they're not bad card by any means.
>>
>>14908421
m8, nobody here can fucking agree on anything.

honda civic maybe, i dont really come to /o/ very often but i have owned 2 honda civics 4 door, a 1995 and a 2003 and they both solid and stronk like my thinkpads

the quality of the laptops took a dive after the models listed, basically when they switched out the good keyboard for chiclet keys

>>14908459
is it the chiclet keys or the good ones? I am typing this post on a T420 (pictured in the OP) but I have a T400 and X41 as well they all have great keyboards.
>display
that is the one thing, but considering the laptops are old it's understandable. What squeaking plastic shell are you talking about? you must have gotten one that was already fucked up.

Nigga what.

I have an IBM T43 Thinkpad from the year 2005. It runs on XP etc etc and it's still going strong.

I need to change the battery because it holds an hour charge at max, but besides that it's perfectly fine for typical work.

I can post the speccy if you want for laughs at ancient tech.

The Volvo 240/740/940 is the Thinkpad, the Panther platform is the Panasonic Toughbook.

Or maybe the other way around? Toughbooks tend to have lower power hardware for battery life and durability, similar to how Volvo undertunes their engines for reliability, while Thinkpads are generally some of the most powerful laptops for their price, especially second-hand.

HP Elitebooks actually have a pop-up headlight and are similarly constructed to Thinkpads, with even greater hardware accessibility.

The Crown Vic is pretty average for a 4.6L V8 and has the handling characteristics of a boat (like a Thinkpad with no discrete GPU, it's entertainment performance is poor), but it's highly capable, durable and upgradable.

The Mercury Marauder is more like a TP with proper graphics hardware, like a W-series or something. Appropriately, they are rare and expensive.

the old okay ones, suprisingly the latest Tx50 sport very nice chiclet keys while the ones before were meh-tier.

while the resolution of 1440x900 is tolerable, the lighting and color accuracy is absolutely not. they fucked up the most important thing in a laptop.

>What squeaking plastic shell are you talking about?
the shell is prone to breaking and the material used on the palm rests is shit, even my old white macbook felt much more solid.

The answer is clearly Honda Civic.

Other acceptable answer
All you really need is a Honda Fit

Honestly: The Toyota Yaris/Toyota Echo.

It's been in production since 2000 virtually unchanged except for minor restylings and ECU changes. The engines and transmissions are the same in a 2016 model Yaris as in a 2000 model Echo.
There's nothing to go wrong on them, they're cheap as fuck, durable as can be, economic to drive and maintain, and they have decent aftermarket support.

Japan even has a One-Make racing series for them.

The Yaris is considered a good car by /o/'s hivemind. Just very dull.
And considering the car itself is 15 years old, the Yaris is far too expensive for what it is.

They took car of squeaks, rattles and any other production problems by 2003, and the car hasn't changed much beyond styling and computer changes since.
Fun fact: the 2000-2005 Echo coupe body style was American market only. The sedan was sold in America, Japan, Australia, and the phillipines, and the hatchback was sold everywhere except America during that time.

I've seen people compare the Yaris and Fit many times before.
The Honda is nicer to drive. That's about it.
The Yaris is faster (because DOHC vs SOHC, and it's lighter), more reliable, and, unlike the Fit, doesn't leak.
