Listed for £3500 to £6000. Depending on condition and Jewishness of the seller/company.

Nice for a 1st car.
>>
>>14901792

I'm hoping to get it for around £3500 so that sounds pretty good.
>>
>>14901814
Good luck lad. I had a 1,2 Fiesta, shame shape same year, was very good for a 1st car.

If you look after it properly then it's as reliable as they come.

Every single car for sale of that age in that condition is about 2k in this country

You're buying trade, it comes with a premium.
>>

You could pick up a VR6 4motion golf for that kind of money, I wouldn't pay more than 1.5k for that fiesta any day of the week son
>>
>>14902267

He's not going to buy that for a first car
>>
>>14902272
Why not?

Contrary to opinion, your first car doesn't need to be a 80hp piece of shit
>>
>>14902267
His insurance would be 10 grand though.
>>
>>14902278

because British insurance for drivers with less than 2 years experience/under the age of 21 starts at £1500 for the most basic 1980s 0.9l shitbox and usually ends up at around £2-4k for a normal car from 1.3-1.6l

A VR6 golf would end up costing more than the car to insure.
>>
>>14902279
Out of curiosity I just ran insurance comparison for one I looked the reg up off autotrader.

As a guy who just got their full license with noone else on the policy the first year would be £1k.

if he still has a provisional that gets lower rather than higher because the presumption is you have a lower propensity for spirited driving and you are always accompanied.

As soon as you start putting other people on the policy the cost goes down more and more.

I insured a 300zx after I started driving for £700 in the first year
>>
>>14901766
I've got a diesel one we've had from new (2008) and just rolled over to 52k miles this week. I've only just had to spend money on it to repair a running issue this week, and that's the first mechanics costs I've had. Good wee motor. £3500 is grand for it.

bullshit on all counts

Ran a comparison on what I thought the OP might be:

19 year old student with an access to another car for this 97 golf VR6:

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C247806

living in Windsor (one of the safest parts of the country) parked on the street outside at this house:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-59024345.html/svr/2706;jsessionid=A5A78D0C95404D9AC101C41FBDB2EB3E?showcase=true&premiumA=true

fully comprehensive cover (which is cheaper than 3rd party)

and this was what I got back.

Complete horse that you insured a 300ZX for £700 in your first year. Just to remind you, you need to be 18 to post here, and it's usualyl nice if you own a car too.
>>
Do itttttttttt. Even though the Mk6 Fiesta looks real old now, because of all the jack everyman driving a 2014 Fiesta Zetec in red, driving it will drill into you why the Fiesta has been the best selling car for years. It is up there with the most fun you can have going slow. You can rip it around corners without being on the other side of the road, you can fit five people legally in it (or around 8 if you take the parcel shelf off). The gearbox is good, but do don't have to slam into gear if you don't want to. The Fiesta is as utilitarian as Nutella, its as serviceable as BangBros. You're not going to be able to run anything else, a cheap BMW means a 2002 318 compact, which is the worst, a Celica from someone who managed to break Toyota build quality and a Cilo 182 that will leave you wrapped around a bus shelter.

Try and get it for £3k tho

>>
Why are you nigs arguing about insurance instead of the cost of the car

£3k+ for that car is not worth it. Spend less, don't buy something that costs £4k to insure, have more money.

There are plenty of 1.3-1.6l cars from the late 80s and early 90s that cost under £2k in good condition and don't cost loads to insure. Why settle?
>>
>>14902386
I've done a bit of fudging when I've looked at insurance and it doesn't seem to matter if my dad is the main driver or not. The price changed by like £5 a year.
>>
>>14902450

Because cars from the 80s and 90s will cost more in maintenance, fuel and tax?
>>
>>14902441
Never drive a real car, son, unless you're seriously wealthy. You can't go back to worthless tinpot hatchbacks and end up needing to buy motorcycles because you can't afford V8s

Tax on a car pre 2001 engine based, a >1550cc engine will cost you like £230 in tax, under that around £140.

You'll have saved on buying the car so have more cash on hand to pay for fuel or maintenance. But that depends on the car you buy overall.

It's a shit car. It's your first car, great, but it's shit. Don't call it fun, it's not, don't call it fast, it's not.
>>
>>14902553
The point is it's relative. It's funner and faster to a 17 year old than anything previously. You'd think whatever you drive now is a pos if you could own a P1 tomorrow, but you don't because that's the level you're at, and this is the level that OP is at, so stop being an abrasive cunt.

£3k, 4k maximum if it's in very good condition. Mid-range trim, but it's an older fiesta of an ugly generation.
>>
buy this instead op

>>
>>14902238
You've got to think about the kind of people buying this car.

There are two types of people who buy little hatchbacks like this. First time buyers and people without a lot of money. A first time buyer is already getting fucked in the ass for insurance, they won't pay 3 - 6k for you car when they can find another for less. Not to mention that kind of money can buy you a much nicer car.

I'm not saying your car isnt worth it , just saying it's a car that at that price, won't appeal.
>>

>>14906304
You forgot one major market for them. Women.

A Fiesta is a car for women. Designed for women, but with just enough masculinity in it to be drivable by teenage boys.
Wife needs a car to do errands/school run, and isn't demanding a Nissan Cashcow? Buy her a Fiesta.
Daughter needs a car? Fiesta.
Old lady wants a car that'll run and carry shopping and is easy to drive? Fiesta.

They're genuinely nice cars, just girly. I spent a few years borrowing my mother's old one while I was saving for my own car, and it was a great little car other than the back/leg/shoulder pain from being too tall for it. Could throw it around easily, corner at speed, lift-off oversteer, and carry friends in it.
>>
>>14908694
Old fiesta. Just looked them up on autotrader, and I'm seeing nearly a thousand for under a grand.
Cheapest is £99 for a 1.2L, lots around £150-250.
The keyword is 'part exchange to clear'.
>>
>>14908720

>>14908694
look around. see what cars are popular. get that car. dont get a classic or a jap import. get something hopefully domestically manufactured with parts support. in australia it is holden commodores.

in UK it appears to be the golf, ford focus or Vauxhall which clones opels like GM so basically holden and pretty much the same thing as australia. what's the barina based on? opel corsa.
>>

>mfw zafira turbo kits fit my nubira because it's an astra and they've used the same engine for the last 30 years since the C20LE
>>

ENGLAND

YES
>>
>>14908771
Mk3s bubbles, yeah. 98-2002 is the age you're looking at at that price. Insurance is probably £800 minimum for your first year, because you haven't got any no-claims bonus or history.
Then you'll likely need £200 for a new set of tires because nobody sells a car they haven't worn to shit.
Seriously, just set autotrader to 'ford fiesta', 'within 20 miles', and 'under £1000'. It'll sort low to high automatically.
Best not to get too attached to anything >10 years old and not a classic. Just chop and change it if it fails MOT. You can probably turn it around on autotrader again for a couple of hundred, or a bit less at a scrapyard if you're a callous car-killer.

>>14909126
Much smaller car, though, and it's delivering more HP than that old Corolla.
>>
>>14909384

I wouldn't say that, chris

>1996 Toyota Corolla AE101
>1.6L, 100 HP
>1.8L, 105 HP
>>
>>14909728
But how much weight is that 100HP pushing around? Most likely a couple of tons.

Either way, anyone looking to buy a fiesta wants the cheap insurance that comes from lower HP, and you literally do not need more than 100 in a car that small to drive it perfectly well.
Sure, if you load it up with fat people and try to tackle steep hills, it struggles. But the trick there is not to load it up with fat fucks.
Or, as I learned, not to stash military ammo boxes in the back and expect decent handling.
