Why is v8 LITERALLY THE BEST ENGINE CONFIG, ALL OTHERS ARE PURE SHIT
In terms of reliability, v8's are the pinnacle of reliability due to them requiring the engine to turn the least amount to spin the wheels, while also having 2 or 4 cylinders less than a v10/12 and thus less that can potentially go wrong.
In terms of raw torque figures, once again the perfectly balanced engine provides maximum power, while not weighing too much so as to prohibit the effects. No turbo 6cyl can compete with the torque and HP figures of a v8, which can weigh as much as a 6cyl. v10 and 12 inherently weigh more, offsetting their additional torque bonuses. Even a GTR's engine cannot make the power of a v8, the GTR requires dual clutch and mad aerodynamics to assist it's 0-100 times.
In terms of handling, once again. Perfectly balanced. Low center of gravity. Makes cars handle better.
Don't get me wrong, this is not a thread saying v8 cars like a mustang or camaro are good, just because v8. More goes into a car than the engine.
But when you look at ONLY THE ENGINE, V8 IS SUPERIOR TO ALL.
Where all the fuel economy at?
Inb4 someone posts some ridiculously large displacement V8 with laughable power figures.

Won't make same power a v8 will, there's a reason toyota used v8 for their race applications.

Hp per liter means nothing, you only hear ricers talking about it because they are salty that their riced out Civic only makes 160hp and it's all they have to brag about. A car with a 7 liter V8 putting out 700hp is going to be faster than a car of similar weight with a 1.5 liter inline 4 putting out 400.
>>14902564

>>14901136
if you are taking MPG, repair costs and displacement out of the equation why not a V10 or a V12?
at least it does sound better.
in yurop and japan, and other countries that actually matter, high displacement engines are highly taxed, and fuel is expensive, so v8s are way more expensive to buy and run
you can have a boring v8 and a fun l4, theres more to engines than you might think
>pic related
>>14901136
V12 is superior, because perfect primary and secondary balance. V8s need wonky order, heavy tangles of exhaust, and balance shafts to make them balanced and to deliver decent power.
V10 and V6 are offshoots of the V8, because a V6 is just a V8 with two cylinders missing, and a V10 is a V8 with two taped on.
I6 is superior to a V8 in terms of pretty much everything except dimensions. They tend to be long and skinny, unless mounted sideways.
High centre of gravity due to the V shape, which is inherent to all V-engines.
Also, American V8s are big, heavy, unreliable, and produce next to no power. HP/Litre, and HP/ton are both low.
With modern technology, there is literally no reason to have a V8. You can just get an I6 in the same space, and spin it faster because modern metallurgy can take it. If you're not still casting engine blocks out of cast iron, anyway.
>>14901189

i had a 1995 chevy truck with the 350 tbi. i think the specs were 210/300 or something like that, with a fucking 4500 redline.
yes, the cam was wimpy, but i think the biggest restriction were the heads. the intake runner has a little ramp cast into it to help with low flow turbulence. it definitely helped - i think that motor made something like 250 torks just off of idle, it had a crazy low torque curve which is what a truck needs - but it just ran out of breath.
a popular swap for those motors were to just put vortec heads on them. with proper tuning, usually good for about 30-40 peak hp just by themselves.
>>14901136
