Last few days I spent my spare time making front a rear strut bars for my sentra. They're not perfect but made a huge difference in the cars handling characteristics, tracks much flatter. I can feel less noodling and more traction. Here are some pics of the work involved for anyone interested. First up i made a cardboard template of the strut tops, they will differ in shape and size front to rear and possibly even from right to left. mine were able to be mirror images making things alittle easier on me.

Also post pics and stories about what you've installed/fixed/made/broken on your car recently!

In order to get the circle cut out I used a drill press, once you've got the holes drilled all the way around you can use a hammer to pop out the center usually. try to support the metal around the outer edge when hammering to keep it flat.

I had to file down some of the larger gaps between the holes i drilled before the center would hammer out. Its better to take your time filing or possible using a hacksaw blade then to hammer the bracket out of flatness.

Thats real cool bro, not often you see this level of DIY.

I also got the die grinder out to make quick work of trimming down the edges but it would be possible to file them down if your dedicated.

next up I test fit (the pics are now a mix from front to back, i got tired of so many pics) Sadly i fucked up the front template so the center hole was way too small. so I had to re drill and grind the front brackets.

thanks, I have alot of fun doing it and theyre the kind of part i dont need to worry about perfection. nearly any welded bar with a full faced bracket will out perform an ebay bolt together "adjustable" bar that only uses 1-2 bolt points per side.

next up I tack welded up the front bar to check intake manifold and hood clearance.

Then I welded the front bar up and mocked up a rear bar tacked it in place for fitment. A single bar especially a thin one will flex substantially more then if you tie 2 bars together or even better make a 3 point brace that ties to the firewall. sadly my sentra firewall had no real structure to i elected not to 3 point it.

Tied the bars together. I expect someone to throttle me over the gross welds. I ground down the worst of them and restarted but none of it was my best work and i'm definitely no professional welder. That said they're plenty strong and better then rwb so im good.

After that I just cleaned it up a bit threw a few coats of primer on it then found some red and boom. a nearly pretty part, and i'm very happy with the difference in the handling.

I totally agree, the more bracing the stronger. But that weight adds up in a hurry and theres always gonna be a trade off somewhere. Im trying to find pics of the rear bar, im not finished with it yet but its all tacked up and fits in place.

heres pics of the worst part, finishing the deburr/cleanup of the center holes in the brackets. if you have a metal holesaw big enough or access to a plasma cutter or mill its much easier.

Ok I went and snapped a few quick pics of the rear bar. I wanted to retain the use of the back seats so I'm restricted to a single bar design. Because of this I upped the thickness of both the bracket materials as well as the bar itself. Used a harbor freight tube crusher to bend the bar.

And heres a pic of it installed, still need to clean it up a ton. Sadly the welds on the rear bar are even worse then the front so im gonna knock/grind it off and restart with some really clean metal and take my time. try not to Michael j Fox my welds again.

Well... tomorrow I'm planning on to replace all 4 front ball joints and maybe the steering tie-end joints too. kinda depends once I get 'em off to see if there's play in the joint.

Got the windshield replaced after a deer hit. Bought a new door so I can have one without dents plus glass for my driver side window. Just need a sunny day to replace it. Still need front fender, rear quarter panel, and driver side mirror.
>>
>>14898010
Good luck when you do the ball joints haven't done that yet.....my Leak stoped but now the hose has blown up to the size of a large marble where the hose turns into line near the caliper

Fantastic job OP, I applaud your work.

I'm just doing some basic maintenance on my jeep, spring cleaning.

Then time to pickup a parts grand Prix to return my turbo Monte to stock, then sell it for some cash. Then ultimately find an Aztek to swap the motor into.

This is going to be so much fun....

bro I like the way you think! aztek is past my level on trollolol but a (assuming alot here) 3800 turbo swap + awd in the aztek would make a gr8 combo. theres a guy that ice races an awd 3800 turbo swapped blazer iv see some videos of that if i remember correctly did mid 12's in the 1/4 and wasnt anything special stock l67 with a blower delete.

Polished the headlights using the 3m kit today.

Turned out pretty decent but I will probably end up redoing the 2nd one because I rushed to get it done before dinner

Also yeah I get you. I'm in Germany anyway. If I ever come to the US on a roadtrip I might want to hit you up for spare parts though.

I swapped a g16 into my b11. Felt like a racecar after the swap.
>Brand new the e16 made around 69hp/85tq
>G16 was around 115hp/108tq
>Still achieved crazy mpgs despite the fact I drove it hard

I retired the old car after an oil change.
>As usual crawl under and do my inspection
>For whatever reason I took my wrench and tapped on the frame rail
>Effortlessly crumbles under my wrench
>Not even surface rust is visible
>Rotted away from within
>Further inspection shows salt rocks worked their way into the crevices and remained there for who knows how long
>Multiple body mounts were rusting from within
>Parked it same day

Sold it to some HS kid for $300. He said he wanted it for parts. Despite the fact I warned him about the rust he drove it to HS for a couple months.

Not sure what happened to it. It was in the parking lot one day and gone the next.

Really small 10min thing but lm going to remove the butterfly vent from the intake airbox on my Celica while l replace the airfilter.
It'll be my first "mod".
I just wanted to contribute something on this thread cause l like this.
>>
I fucked up my car.

>swapped out starter harness thing that leads from the battery so I could use an intact, not broken clip
>timing's all fucked up and the car won't start now
>one 3 mm piece of broken plastic has cascaded into a full blown ignition and timing issue where there was none before

I've learned a lot, I guess. Not that it makes the thing driveable.
>>
>>14900461
GA16DE is an amazing engine. We raced one in lemons with 300k miles on it and it lasted over 100 hours on track before the car was retired. Grenaded several transmissions, but then engine was rock solid with 100% stock cooling system. Leaked oil but never starved even with like 2 quarts of oil in the sump.

And it got like 20mpg while racing, too, lol.

Picture related, GA16DE swapped into a Porsche 924, thus becoming the most reliable Porsche ever.

Rattle-can sprayed my stock wheels on a new car to try and cover up some of the gutter-rash previous owner put on them. I let my little sister put gold on the centre caps because she thought it would look nice.

Installed some cheap UEL headers because it's an N/A engine for DD and the previous headers were totally bashed in for some stupid fucking reason.

I took of the Autotragic transmission pan and cleaned it up, the previous owner re-installed it with no gasket and only sealant. Replacing all the fluids tomorrow.

I have a new passenger side CV-boot to install along with it as the other had split, I've already replaced the driver's side driveshaft, ball-joint and hub because that was creaky as fuck (which is why I got the car for $600, very clean and ran perfectly otherwise)

Decent bit of work for a couple of days outside of basic maintenance (cleaning and oil), didn't cost much at all either, I could flip the car for a great profit as-is but I've grown really attached to it.

Will also do a touch up job on one gutterd rim.
Also, the gold lettering turned out good.

Nothing

My school doesn't allow me to work on my car in the parking lot, and the school security is really strict about it. I got a written notice for changing windshield wipers and filling up my wiper fluid. So next semester when I live off campus I'll be able to work on my car again.
>>
>>14902527
That's some gay ass shit
Do you have any garages around here, maybe a bigass parking garage? It pays to gang up on these problems. If you could fund a car guy club you could easily get an area squared away for maintenance since you can easily justify that you are working for the common good by keeping people's rust buckets running properly.

Not many in the area, and most seem to cater to Mexicans and ricers.

Most of the people going to my school are effeminate hipsters and nu-male faggots. Both of my dorm mates "joke" about me driving a car and owning guns.

I drive to my public storage place where I keep all my shit, and I do any regular maintenance there. Besides general stuff, I haven't done any major projects on my car in nearly 2 years.
>>
>>14902846
No I don't mean maintenance garages, I mean literally parking garages that you could do the work in away from the public eye that will complain about oil dripping to the ground poisoning muh chilluns.

Trust me, if you build it they will come. Them. The real niggas. There's always some of them around, you just need to light a beacon for them.
>>
>>14902864
No, I go to UC Berkley, and there aren't many parking garages around here. Much less those that aren't absurdly expensive.

But I'm getting my own place in a few months, so I'll be fine until then. I'll just keep changing my oil and doing boring things at my public storage, and cleaning the car at my local car wash.
>>
>>14902893
What a shame. Any possibility of getting the university to give you club space?
>>
>>14900674
