Anything over 10,000 miles is high mileage for a bike.

If it's stock and in excellent condition, I wouldn't pay more than $3,000

If it's modified, I wouldn't buy it.

Go and inspect the bike completely. Bring a mechanic or a friend that knows his way around bikes if you can. Don't just jump in for the low mileage.

Not the guy you replied to, but those CBRs can withstand many miles of punishment if they are maintained correctly.

Honestly $2700 isn't too bad if the bike's in good shape. These bikes' odometers can go well towards 100k miles if maintained properly, like most any modern bike.

I'd be more than willing to drop his asking price on the bike if it looks solid. Obviously check for telltale signs of drops, make sure oil and regular maintenance is on point (no fork oil weeping, brake fluid clear, etc.)

no but thanks for giving the only helpful reply. the pictures for the ad show all sides and from what I could tell there were no signs of it being dropped. it appears that there isnt any physical defects but i guess i will find out. I had a 99 that had around 40k that I did some work on and sold when I moved. and that thing was rode into the ground but still fired up and got you from point a to b quick. I know what to look for but i have never payed over the top kbb value for a vehicle.

Don't be shy about asking the owner to put aside some real time to look the thing over, too.

If you're serious about swooping this one, set aside a good hour and bring tools to take the fairings off, or have him remove them before showing up.
Look it over, and then have him re-mount them for a test ride or whatever.

The F4s are notorious for lasting over 100k miles. I suspect mostly because they're relatively comfortable for a sportbike and make good DD
