Bought a 2007 S350 Merc with 120k km on the clock.

Did I goof? What can I expect?
>>

>What can I expect?
Lots of repair bills and electrics to work approximately 15% of the time
>>
>>14860532

That's unfair. When it works, it will be awesome OP. When it doesn't, it will be very, very expensive to repair.
>>
>>14860518
You didn't goof. If you're in the UK, I imagine you paid about £7.5K.
The servicing at an indy is £220.

You can actually do a lot of the servicing yourself. The oil change yourself.

Go to an indy to do your servicing if you can't do it yourself.
>>
>>14860555
Eastern Europe, it was 17k Euros.
>>
>>14860518
Actually I just saw 120k miles.
In the UK that's worth about £5k-£6k
>>
>>14860571
Bro, why didn't you just travel over to western Europe and buy one? It's a lot cheaper here.

Also, £17k Euros is mad expensive.
>>
>>14860573

I can't see any on autotrader at that price desu

SHIEEEEEE I didn't know new shape S-classes were DAT CHEAP.

mfw!
>>
>>14860619

The mileage is 3 times higher on that car. OP has 75k miles.
>>
>>14860642

I wouldn't feel comfortable buying a car with 220k miles on the clock.
>>
>>14860631
The 07 onwards S-Classes were actually quite reliable machines.

>>14860619
>>14860659
64k miles

I can now impress clueless females with MUH luxurious S-Classé

Let me drop the lies and say the truth, I'm a 20 yo guy whose father got a new job half a year ago. It's like he's completely new person, insufferable and toxic, a complete displeasure to be around. His new job is better paying than the old job so he considered investing and made a family meeting about his future investments, the propositions were:
>mine and my sister's education since we both rolled in into really bad unis due to lack of funds before the new job
>mother wanted an apartment at the seaside
He drove home few days later in his new Merc saying that he has nothing to invest in, being a 55 year old guy and that this Mercedes will last him a life time (it's the long version).

It's been a month and a half since he got it and he only drove it only 3-4 times and has never let me drive it (even though I commute and have driven about 100k km already without an accident). He never stops talking about the car, it's car car car every day. He brags about it to people he just met. Just a few minutes ago we were watching a Rolls Royce review on TV together and he kept trash talking the Royce saying how his Merc is better.

I just wanted to know more about it.

Now I want a cheap 2007 S-class.

DAT FEEL, when I can't even afford the £5k one.
>>
>>14860518
If you got the diesel model you bought the most reliable variant of the W221. Be prepared for lot's of electrical issues though. Suspension failures are imminent in the long run if you bought one with AIRMATIC suspension.
>>
>>14860677
Jesus christ. That sounds like toxic parent syndrome. Get the fuck out if you can.
>>
>>14860843
It's a petrol V6
>>
>>14860936
>It's a petrol V6

>Buying a Mercedes and not getting a V8 or a diesel

What the fuck pham.

What do you guys mean the electronics fail? Meaning like it has sensors and computers that tend to fizz out or is it melting wires and popping fuses? Is this one of those car that if you don't chase every problem down as soon as it happen you'll have a dashboard full of warning/ fault lights?

This causes this:

>Is this one of those car that if you don't chase every problem down as soon as it happen you'll have a dashboard full of warning/ fault lights?

Exactly. Mercedes tends to run wires for multiple unrelated systems through common harnesses and junctions. Additionally the use cheap quality wiring as they don't like outsourcing to non-German companies who bluntly are much better than the Germans. An example of a Mercedes electrical problem:

Water got into the space between my passenger side rear window and got the terminal for the window control wet.

This wire also runs power to the door lock in that door. If one lock malfunctions the door locking system flags a programming error and as that lock won't open.

Because of this, the alarm would stay on whenever I unlocked the door as that rear door was still seen as locked by the computer. Physically unlocking the door didn't fix it because this system interfaced with the horn and blinkers also. As such my blinkers would not work nor would my horn.

Unplugging the wet/corroded wire window control wire in the door from terminal worked but then that door could not be unlocked as all plugs need to be plugged into the junction to provide the correct voltage.

As the voltage was now off slightly and this system interacted with the blinkers via the alarm and the blinkers share a common junction with the headlights, my right headlight would then not work as it was not getting correct voltage.

>Buying a mercedes at the time when they had the worse reliability record

Yep.. you goofed
>>
>>14861884

Worst reliability was 5-10 years earlier senpai.
>>
Since around the year 2000 MB has turned into a negrowithmoneymobile. Their quality and styling has gone to pot for this market.

Buying older used ones, unless you're going back to the 70s and prior is really dumb because some wannabe hoodrat has already treated it like shit.

They're a bad car at any level.
>>
>>14860843
All W221s came with Airmatic standard, only higher end AMG models used coil springs

They aren't even all that expensive to replace if you do it yourself
>>
>>14860619
>>14860668
I forgot the Euro cars were mostly short wheelbase

In North America they only sold the long wheelbase versions
