why do automatic cars have gear neutral?
>>
For revving at a stoplight
>>
The same reason why a manual has one, my nigga.
>>
>>14858632
To disengage the transmission?

>The same reason why a manual has one, my nigga.

This. Except for that manuals don't really have an "N" selection.
>>
In case of emergency where you need to disengage the trans to send power to the drive wheels, e.g. car wont stop accelerating/stuck throttle.
>>
because toyota
>>
>>14858854
This

Its also really fucking hard to push a car in park, drive or reverse
>>
>>14858904
when the car is off, drive and reverse are the same as neutral.
>>
>>14858919
But you most likely need the car to be on (and in neutral) to be able to push or pull the car if you need to steer.
>>
>>14858939
by on, I mean running. And if its running, why are you pushing. Yes you need the key to be in accessory or ignition on, but unless the engine is running, R N D are the same thing. Without hydraulic fluid being pumped, the clutches can't engage a gear.
>>
>>14858945
Then I guess N is just for people to rev their lolomatics at people or for anyone who bought a Toyota and doesn't want to die.
>>
Obviously for towing behind an rv/ large truck, or so retards don't shift from drive to reverse by accident or the other way around
>>
>>14858632

You are a legitimate retard thanks for triggering me.
>>
>>14858919
you've been inhaling too many fumes anon.
>>
>>14858945

>R N D are the same thing

R & D - internal clutches engaged
N - clutches disengaged
>>
>>14858744
They do, it's just not marked "N".
>>
>>14858632
Because they creep if left in D, and P slowly fucks up the transmission if there's any strain on it whatsoever.
>>
For checking transmission fluid while it's running
>>
>>14858632
That's where you need to put the shifter when you rev your mom's 87 turbo 4runner to 6k rpm before dumping it into drive to make the tires chirp
