>>
Yeah. You're gonna have to spend more. I think $200 is a good starting point.

You can buy a good set of tools once, or you can buy shitty tools over and over.
>>
>>14847989

The one in your pic. I have the same one and keep it in my DD. So far it's survived 6 years, only complaint is a bit of surface rust which is prolly my fault anyways for using some of the sockets in the rain and I didn't dry them off. Dirt cheap on amazon.
>>
>>14847989
If you wanna buy something like that to keep in the car, go for it. But I guarantee you're going to buy a nice socket set the first time you try to do suspension work on an older car.
>>
under 50.. maybe used craftsman or kobalts or something off cl.. if they are used, there is a chance they made be the old made in usa stuff.

I wouldn't bother spending that little on a set of new tools.. it will just be shit.
>>
>>14848003
For impacts I love Milwaukee. I love the 3 level setting makes shit so much easier.
>>
>>14847989
I wound up with a 200+pc. Craftsman set from Sears for about $50 by gaming thier rewards points system, online pricing and return policy.

can't go wrong with Craftsman. Also, I been using those ratcheting wrenches for the last year or so. At first I thought they were just a meme but they actually are pretty fuckign nice to use.
>>
>>14847989
at work my tools consist of these brands

-Snap On
-Craftsman
-Harbor freight
-Matco tools
-Husky
-Stanley

tool box is craftsman and husky currently looking for a bigger box because all of my drawers are stuffed with tools

walmart sells stanley tool sets for under 50$ you can get a couple of things including a socket set at harbor freight for 50$

Tekton is all I buy now, I've never had a miss.
>>
>>14848736
i shop there alot never had any issue with their tools as you can see i buy any tool that carries a life time warranty

low quality but all around good tools some shit i dont buy there and i recommend it for the new mechanic thats starting out
>>
>>14848765
>this i do the same thing
>>
>>14848782
I got a set of gasket scrapers and picks from them and had to modify every single one on the belt sander to be useful, it's pretty cheap shit, IDK if I would risk getting anything else from them

That's a good place to start for <$50
Don't be afraid of Harbor Freight either, just stick to the Pittsburgh Pro brand. People that shit on Pittsburgh tools here have likely never even worked on a car.
>>
>>14848802
Did you look at the reviews prior to purchasing them? But I'll be honest, they probably didn't put much effort into a $1 set of picks.
>>
>>14848828
I don't think there were any reviews on the site I bought them, I figured it's a piece of metal with a plastic handle that doesn't need to be strong it's pretty much impossible to fuck up, but they were. "They weren't trying" doesn't give me any confidence in the rest of their tools.
>>
>>14847989

I have that set in your pic. Runs about $100.

Really good quality in my experience and the newer version is even better than the last.
>>
>>14847989
>go to home depot
>look for tool box set that look like they've been opened, maybe if it is open take a socket out and toss it
>find someone that works there
>say you want the open box of tools but you want a discount
>they'll offer 10%
>say that's good but it looks opened and possibly missing stuff so maybe add 5% more
done the bargain hunting this way and i have a decent set of tools.

bu..bu...but senpaiiiii! dewalts cheaper than milwaukee.
>>
>>14848960
Dewalt isn't more money than Milwaukee, my last drill and cordless sawzall were Dewalts, drill lasted 2 years. Snap On is all rebranded clunky shit on the 18v side and the batteries are junk, the mini stuff looks alright but the 18v Milwaukee stuff is barely bigger and heavier than the 14.4v Snap On.

Just had a recent call with my father and he said that I get his toolset when he passes. Easily worth still hundreds of dollars.
>>
>>14849548
I got my dad's old stand up tool box when he died. I can't fit anything else in it, but I'll never get a bigger box.
>>
>>14847989
I have that exact set op it was great for my 99 wrangler sport and been good for my 84 firebird too.
>>
Does anyone use ratcheting breaker bars?

How crappy are they?
>>
>>14851424
>ratcheting breaker bars

Isn't that just a big ass rachet?

if I were you, i'd just use a regular breaker bar or solid combo wrench.

What is /o/'s opinion of JDM-tyte koken/ktc/nepros?
>>
>>14847989
my exprenace sets always have tools that never see use and get lost
and you end up with a slightly lower quality for the tools you use more often

so I mostly buy second hand tools one at a time as I need them
and high end English or German if it is more a specialised job
>>14851465
Japan makes good vernier callipers
>>
>>14848003
Why wear eye protection when using pry bars?
>>
>>14851465
I used a buddie's koken stud remover socket once. It worked well.
>>
I got the Husky 185-piece mechanic's tool kit at the Homeless Despot for $99, and it's a pretty comprehensive kit.
>>
>>14847989

Any regular brand that is on sale with the most sockets in it.

Sockets are 99.3% of what you use on cars.
