I plan to if they come to US
>>
If it didn't have such an ugly grill I'd be all over it like a fat kid on a cupcake. I wish the US would let JP sell Kei cars.
>>
Yes. If it's sub 20k, it's a 100% buy. How do we contact President Toyopet to make him realize he needs to sell it here?

if its cheap maybe. Saddly it will be slower than the godmachine

Yes. Also i would get a custom front bumper for it
>>
>>14844165
Good. This is what the FRS should have been and looked like. Tiny and basic as shit with a reliable engine that's enough to get it going and rip some skids.

all I really want is an RWD shitbox

it's ridiculous that the cheapest and smallest RWD car available on the market is a mustang

I would definitely consider it.

What's stopping it? The mandatory side curtain airbags?

Guarantee it won't sell below $17k in the US. $10k is like bottom barrel one or two year old economy car price. Betting on the SFR selling at $18-20k.
>>
>>14844280
Oh my god, I need it.
>>
>>14844280
I doubt it will be 10k, but if they actually sell a base model one with a stripped down interior like the concept then I could see it being 13-15k.

Wait? It's a 4 seater? That makes it a lot more attractive to have 4 seats in a package like that.

Miata sized, but actually usable.
>>
>>14845487
The new RX-7 will probably be between 38k-55k unless they make it smaller and NA which I doubt.

There aren't many good super spotscars in the 40k-80k range. There is just the Corvette. The Cayman is pretty gimped still and overpriced. The 4C is also pretty gimp and overpriced.

Perhaps. My brother (we run a shop) thought about buying a BRZ and me a GT86 and then modding them, but that might be the cheaper option.

They'll probably need to pigfat it up to be able to sell it in countries that care about safety.

If it did come out here though I'd be very interested. I am all for cheap fun and I don't like creature comforts so it sounds about perfect.
>>
>>14847610
The MX-5 is only 200lb more with a 2.0l engine and it passes safety regs in both EU and US.
The S-FR is slightly larger than the MX-5 too though, which does make the weight seem a bit more suspect. Yeah I guess it's more likely it'd be like 2300-2400lb itself.

RUINED

I like how simple the interior is.

I love the materials, too.

I'm so fucking tired of the fake carbon stickers and shit.

I like suede and whatever that felt like plastic crap is on the doors, and either polished plastic or soft touch.
That fake leather textured hard plastic lots of cars have is garbage.
And I hate sand-nigger style interiors like in new Mercedes and Bugatis.

Toyota S-FR Concept (1).jpg
625KB, 1920x1080px
You guys that think it's either got 4 seats or would be under $20k are nuts.

It's obviously an ND Miata with a bodykit - this is good if you think it'd be a 2400lb 2-seater, but if it were a four-seater (aka a FR-S/BRZ-platform thingy) it'd have five lugs not four also show me the legroom for the rear people in this pic (>>14844280) or any other profile angle.

Manual 2.0L NDs start at US~$25k. If you lose $1k for having the 1.5 instead of the 2.0 (which I don't think is happening) and lose $3k for the non-convertible top (even though the concept appears to be a glass panel in this one pic rather than cheaper steel) you're still at $21k at the very least. Where's the other $1k come out of? No radio, A/C or carpet? Yeah Toyota is totally doing that.

My question is when do we get to play with the configurator? I don't like the concept colour.

>ramen noodle captcha

>>
>>14844522
They're talking about the world premiere of the car, they're not saying the car is going to be sold worldwide you dummy
>>
>>14847872
Uhh... the concept has 4 seats. They're little seats in the back, but they're there.

Why would the concept have them and them be taken out, especially when 2-seater sales are really bad? Retard.
>>
>>14844121
No. Its Toyota and my em2 has nearly the same specs.
>>
If it wasn't so damn ugly.

Christ.
>>
>>14847872
>>14847975

It will have 4 seats, the rears being however useless, simply for insurance and economy tax reasons.

There is literally no reason not to put two ass pads and some seat belts in the pack to bypass 2 seater taxes and insurance hikes.
>>
>>14844868
That actually looks good.
>>14847975
I doubt those seats will be usable knowing Toyota.
>>
>>14848045
>>14848047
Why is that such a big complaint?

Barely usable rear seats that you can still put stuff on and fit cute little grils or children in are a GOOD thing.
They usually fit without any compromises as you're simply going to have room between the rear wheel arches in any car and their dome shape adds to rigidity.
It's still nice to have when you must fit more than 2 people in your car. Obviously it sucks if you are shuttling people regularly and you shouldn't be considering such a car. But in a pinch, when you need them, they're great.

I don't want big "usable" seats that fatasses can fit in since I don't befriend nor fuck fatasses and they compromise the layout and handling of the car.
The RX-8 is like the only car that's the exception to that, but it's rear seats still aren't massive, just bigger than usual and pretty comfortable.
Maybe the Giulia too. Dunno, haven't driven one yet.
>>
>>14847580
miata is considered the ultimate hairdresser's car so what defines a hairdresser's car? being small? is an exige a hairdresser's car?
>>
>>14847872
>1.5L Miata is $20.8k including tax in Japan, S-FR is estimated to be $12.5k including tax
>>
Im too tall to fit in a tiny bitch car like that. I don't understand the attraction of tiny little cars besides their low prices.
>>
>>14844121
>Would /o/ buy a S-FR?

Many say yes now, but if it ever did come to the U.S. it would be the Toyobaru all over again, but worse.

>ugly
>too expensive, it should be $12k MAX
>slower than an FR-S
>REEEEEE TURBO IT ALREADY, TOYOTA
>hurr why do you need back seats, do you have kids or something
>NOT a sports car

Yet you'll still see threads asking
>why don't car companies just give us fun RWD sports cars to drift in like the '80s/'90s? but they must be sub $20k and 240+ hp otherwise I'm not buying!

This board will shit on every car no matter what.
>>
>>14848152
>Im too tall
no you're not

>I don't understand the attraction of tiny little cars besides their low prices.
low price is the point of this car. a lot of people buy new FWD shitboxes when for a little more than can buy a RWD shitbox.

fucking this

japanese nostalgia fags don't realize the actually good japanese cars cost a shit ton.

An FD Rx-7 cost $39k in 1994. That's $62k in todays money. 300zx turbo? Over $70k.in todays money.
>>
>>14848152
lmfao quit thinking you're fucking special and shit.

I bet 6'4 people will fit in it very comfortably just like the new MX-5, and that taller people will still fit alright.

Most "I'm too tall people" are just fat and ashamed to tell anonymous strangers on the internet that they're fat.

>>14848230
FD started at like 32k in '93 and 34k in '94. That's around 57k in todays dollars.

I'd expect the new RX-7 to be 38k-55k.

Keep in mind that the new MX-5 is significantly cheaper than the original Miata, and over $10,000 cheaper if you count options like power windows, AC, etc, being standard now. So it's reasonable to assume the new RX-7 will be up to $20k cheaper when adjusting for inflation though maybe only slightly more if it's a monster and can compete with the Corvette again.
>>
>>14848230
this is not an RX-7. think more 1980s Celica which inflation adjusted would cost $18k today

>this is not an RX-7. think more 1980s Celica which inflation adjusted would cost $18k today

yea, that was kinda my point. it's going to be a pretty uninteresting car that will require a ton of modifications to be fun

people should just save their money and buy a more special car that's fun out of the box.

or if they're really into modifying, just pick up something from the used car market for much cheaper
>>
>>14848230
>An FD Rx-7 cost $39k in 1994. That's $62k in todays money. 300zx turbo? Over $70k.in todays money.
The game has changed though. If the RX-7 FF is going to compete in the same niche it previously did (which was as a pure sports car that was incredibly fast for the money) then it will have to be priced about the same as the GT350, Camaro SS, and M2 and perform noticeably better, or cost a bit less and perform similarly.

And based on the RX-Vision concept, I think Mazda does intend to make a pure no-nonsense sports car, and not a flashy high-tech halo car like the new GT-R, NSX, and Supra concept.
>>
>>14848268
The only '80s Celicas that matter were the Supras, and adjusted for inflation those would cost over $34,500 today.
>>
>>14848321
>yea, that was kinda my point. it's going to be a pretty uninteresting car that will require a ton of modifications to be fun

eh... maybe if you think miatas aren't fun. some of the funniest cars I've driven are ultra lightweight low powered shitboxes. the main way they could have been more fun is by being RWD.

i'd say it'd be a huge win for mazda if the new rx-7 can out perform the camaro ss at around the same base price
>>
>>14848422
They said their performance benchmarks for the RX-7 will be tested against the Cayman.

It should have like 240-270 hp/ton I would think. The top of the line Camaro has 246 hp/ton.
>>
>>14848459
That's 246 hp/ton for the Camaro LE1, to be clear.
>>
>>14848422
It might not in straight line speed, but if they're doing all the stuff like this anon said: >>14847320 then I don't see how it won't be an absolute monster on the track.

Another thought:
In one of the Skyactive-R patent threads somebody said that Mazda was working really hard on better cooling systems for the turbo rotaries, to avoid the reliability issues the FD had. With proper cooling it would be easy to boost the FF's powerplant to far beyond stock specs.
>>
yeah, actually, it's a really interesting economy-car-that's-fun kinda thing

if they
>keep it dead simple
>make the suspension geometry at least adequate
>keep the weight and options down
they could replicate the miata in a modern sense and the miata is really really fun even considering how slow it is

the interior is great by the way, there's no radio or hud or anything it's just an AUX jack and a usb port, which is fucking brilliant because why inflate the cost of the car with an infotainment system people will ignore and use their phones with anyway?
