Recently bought a used car with origins in Texas and no place to mount front plates. Not trying to drill holes in this beautiful bumper. Solutions for a Virginia resident?
>Pic not related
>>
Self tapping screws.
>>
Zip ties.
>>
>>14827586
Double sided tape.
>>
>>14827586
I should have on my Fox and my Caddie but I don't. Both have never been drilled and I'm not fucking up the clean look with a bracket. I'd rather get pulled over and take the ticket every blue moon. Been pulled over 4 times for it in 7 years and received one ticket. Usually they just use it as an excuse to pull you over and let you go with a "warning" if you're not a dick to the cops.

>>
>>14827613
Was thinking I might just suck it up and pay the fines, but I've heard it's quite expensive where I am in Northern VA.

Also kinda paranoid that I'll get stopped for something as simple as plates, then get a DUI for drinking two beers.
>>
>>14827634
Texas does require a front plate...born and raised in tx and have never had one. Was stopped once after about 10 years and given a warning. I wouldn't worry about it.
>>
>>14827593
Where specifically would these attach to? Is it reasonably secure?
>>
>>14827662
Ah, interesting. The previous owner was from Austin, TX.
>>
>>14827684
Look at a manual show-n-go plate. You will still have to drill under the front bumper but it's retractable and holes will not be visible.
Could possibly do a tow mount plate, but doesnt look like you have that option.
>>
Currently I just have the dealer plate up on the dash. If I get stopped in the meantime, should I just tell the cop that I've ordered a mount but it's here yet?
>>
>>14827717
*not here yet
>>
>>14827672
Anywhere you can. I use them to hold up my bumper because shitbox.
>>
>>14827586
That's a Lexus. Order the front plate bracket. Use the included screws. Look for the indentations in the bumper to see where the screws go

Texas requires front plates.
>>
>>14827684
>>14827732 here, I work at a Lexus dealership in Texas.

We require the plates but Travis Co. (AKA Austin) doesn't enforce it. It's a laugh every time someone comes in with a ticket cause they left Westlake without front plates.

There's also a mount that installs to the tow hook mount in your front bumper. Looks a lot better than the normal mount for the newer sport models. It's $100 but it looks pretty good.
>>
>>14827732
>That's a Lexus
Not mine, but yes I actually did buy a Lexus.
>>
>>14827762
Good, the mount is 30, dealerships generally give plate covers away for free. It comes with the screws and the bumper has indentations where the screws go. If your drill isn't shit you won't need pilot holes.
>>
>>14827758
Reasoning being that a buyer would be furious if the front bumper was drilled, when it was not originally on the lot and they do this after purchase.
>>
>>14827790
Oh, right, you don't want to drill.

The tow hook mount is an option, I've seen people attach the plate to a sun visor. Generally hate to see front plates on Lexus cars but what're ya gonna do, right?
>>
>>14827798
Oh yeah we're well aware of that, doesn't stop the occasional valet from drilling one anyway. But we still have people who've had their cars forever but since they either never drive or never leave the hills they never got a ticket until now.
>>
>>14827586

2 of my vehicles don't have a bracket for the front so I don't display the front plate.

Cops rarely look for them anyway so it's not worth messing up an otherwise clean looking front fascia in my opinion. The only times I ever been called out were when driving to my last job which had gate security. I'd just tell them I'd get it fixed, but never I do and they rotate people a lot so they don't ever really follow up on it. This went on for years at that place until I got fired for unrelated things. Now I live in a town with military base close by and so it's easy to blend in with people from states that don't require a front plate.
>>
>>14827829
>Cops rarely look for them anyway
Funny thing is I didn't even notice the lack of front plate until my friend pointed it out.
>>
>>14827659
>DUI for drinking two beers
This. Just put the plates on. Even a couple drinks at happy hour could technically put some people over the legal limit. Not worth it.
>>
Just display it in the windshield, OP.
>>
>>14828212
I don't know if that's legal in any state. Plus, cops could say it's a dangerous projectile in the case of a collision.
>>
>>14827662
I keep my plate propped up on the dashboard.

My neighbor is a cop, I asked him about it and said it's perfectly fine.
>>
>>14827851
In some states, you don't have to have a front plate if the car didn't come with a place to put one, so double check your laws.

Usually, it's a secondary offense, not a primary. I've lived in mostly front plate states, and the cops have never said anything about not having front plates.

The only time someone said something about it was on base security, told him the cops never said anything to me when I was pulled over, and he told me to keep doing me.
>>
>>14828274

So is just about anything else in the cabin that isn't secured.

The best way to find out is looking up your state regs on the display of license plates. Read it carefully. If you aren't violating any of verbage, then you are good to go.

>>14828302
Be careful. I've met a few officers in my time that thought they knew the law and ended up being wrong. It's best to look up the regs yourself.
>>
>>14828333
>>14828339
I'm in Virginia, specifically Northern VA. Driving laws here are some of the most oppressive in the country.

>>
Why not just put it on the dash?
>>
Bang it up, put it in the glovebox, if you ever get stopped tell them it fell off earlier that day.

Why do cars have places to put a front tow hook? Is it in case the car gets stuck in a ditch? Is there one in the back too?

>>14827586
I know there is a bracket available for Mustang's that mounts under the front bumper and slides out, then flips up. It's intended for a street legal car so you can hide the plate for car shows. There may be something like that available for your car or maybe it's a universal bracket.
>>
>>14836850

European INVENTED the luxury car, what did Japan invent? Cheap econoshits with aerokits for boy racers.

I don't know how you delusional weeaboos even compare them

I know you're trolling but you're wrong on all accounts

Lexus was introduced in the states and European luxury car sales dropped because no one wanted to pay Euro prices and maintenance bills when there was a cheaper option that was just as luxurious and more reliable.
>>
>>14836894

You would too, if you could afford it.

Car culture was born in Europe, car culture is a European phenomenon. Before Americans started trying to copy EU car culture, they were literally drunks driving cars around in circles, hell they still do that for some reason. And don't even get me started on Jap shit. "Drifting" lmao. "Let me take this corner slow and flashy because I'm a faggot". Let me know when drifting wins F1 or le mans.

Well, the japs won Le Mans so hard, that the faggot euros had to ban an engine because euro manufacturers were bitching about it being unfair. An engine, mind you that was so reliable, in the after race inspection they discovered it was ready to run another 24 hours. An engine that if they had increased the limiter to 10,500RPM would have produced 9000 horsepower with a naturally aspirated 2.6L. Call me when the euros can do that, loser.
>>

The rules were changed so that ENGINEERING wins, not who can throw the most money at developing a race car.

If Mazda spent all that money on developing cars for normal people maybe they'd have more than one nice car + a car for gays.

So when did drifting win f1 or le mans? When did a slant eye driver win f1 or le mans? Jap car culture is so divorced from actual race driving that they require Europeans to race their cars.

It also got btfo by other jap cars in the 12 hours
It was also said by the team owner that they cheated
And it was also driven by a non jap so whatever
>>

what's your point? the gt-r is an important part of racing history, the same way that the m3 is. it's a car that has consistently appeared on racing circuits and dominated.
