The cheapest Turbo you can find is most likely not in great condition, and if you decide to daily a 944 in not-great condition that can't end well.
Unless you're fine with spending a few nights in your garage, working on the car, desperately trying to get it working again because you need it again the next day.

I DD'd this thing from like april (40 degrees ish around here) till about october (same temp by that point). Has a top, with windows that snap on. I was in high school/college, and I literally didn't have a different car to drive. My family had 4 cars, this being one of them, and if I wanted something to drive it had to be this. While I wouldn't want to do it again, I loved it when I was doing it. 2.3l Ford 4 cylinder, 4 speed manual. Heater kept it warm, windshield wipers barely worked. I still have it, but I have a c3 as a fun car, and a truck to DD, so it sits in the garage most of the time. An absolute blast to drive.

MKIV is a good car to daily. I did for about two years before pulling it off the road to play with after getting another car to DD. Mega comfy and you can still fit all of the shopping in there along with spares.

Fuel consumption isn't that bad, not great if you get up it every drive but no worse than the 4ZE1 Rodeo that replaced it for DD duty.

A 6.0l is a bad daily? Not really. My f250 isn't bad as it's not stupidly lifted high and I only have 30 inch commercial tires on it plus it's a newer suspension 05-07 with the front springs and coil system instead of those horrible leaf springs. Initial cost. $4500. Head studs, gaskets, egr delete, oil cooler, regulated return, modified duramax turbo, airdog fuel pump and filter kit and I'm still under 11k total invested since I did 90% of the work myself.
