70s Seville was RWD, early 80s with multi-displacement was RWD, mid-late 80s is when they changed to FWD, and I care because it was supposed to compete against other luxury makes that were sportier than it, Cadillac themselves even marketed it as luxury sport you fucking prat

>>14810138
>settling for no reason other than arbitrary nonsense
>>
>>14810129
I'll contend that in both those cars role it didn't matter. Further, the Eldorado was FWD for most of the nameplate's history and was largely irrelevant to it's success or failure.

What DID matter was the horrible execution of the Northstar and an interior that was a clear case of excessive cost cutting.

people who want an honest sport luxo car would get a BMW or Benz

Materials and finish choices, panel gaps, and styling more consistent with economy cars that premium makes. By itself it wouldn't stand out so bad I suppose but when you compare it to market segment competitors from Mercedes, Lexus, and even Audi it's clearly not in the same class.

Without a doubt. The Eldorado may very well be the best looking car America produced in the 90s. In a time when everything was bubbly and round the Eldo had a crisp creased classic look to it that wasn't pretending to be something it wasn't. So many American cars from the time were mimicking Japanese and European styling, but the Eldorado had an unmistakable, unapologetic american quality to it.

I'm not that fond of the 98+ Seville refresh for this reason. It looks way too soft and Japanese for my taste.

I've been looking to buy one for a while now with gas prices being so low, but they're either completely run through and fucked up or the owner is asking way too much money. When the fuck did these get so expensive?

Right now I'm looking to find one cheap with an already blown HG and get it studded, but all the cars I find that are blown are cosmetic nightmares.
>>
>>14810166
>>14810236

The interiors aren't bad. The 92-95 interior was extremely nice for the era. By the end of their run in 2002/3 the interiors were looking a bit dated but still not bad by any means. IIRC the Eldorado used real wood grain for it's entire run, whereas the Deville used the fake shit starting around 96.

The Northstar is a great engine. People love to bash on it because of the headgasket issues, but it was a complete technological marvel for the time it released and there's good reason that they sold extremely well for 20 years straight.

One of the biggest reasons the engine is such a center of divided opinions is at the time it released in 1992, most american mechanics were still used to extremely simple carb'd engines. The N* was new and scary to old timers and a lot of them refused to work on them because frankly, they weren't qualified or familiar enough. As FI, quadcams and cars in general got more advanced, the tech on the N* became the norm. Most of the time when someone is badmouthing the N*, it's an old timer. Younger mechanics have little issue with them because they're so similar and in a lot of ways more simple than engines that came out later.

kek

The Cadillac interior looks better than it's competitors given the era. Shit, IMO the Olds is the best looking of the lot.
>>
>>14810357
While they are very nice in design the problem with 90s GM luxury cars is that due to cost cutting the material quality as well as the fit and finish on them was sub-par compared to its competitors. Also the steering wheels on that Caddy and Olds look like shit, brings the interior down.
>>
>>14810341
No, the reason people badmouth the Northstar is horrible leaks from just about everything that could. Most notably the case-half seals that cost literally thousands to fix. Labor time on that was in excess of 15 hours at over $100hr. Oh sure after NEARLY A DECADE they "fixed that" so that made it ok somehow.

As for the other defenses, y'all do know that there's a reason they still have to practically give Cadillacs away. Sure these were far better than what went before but were still way off the mark even if they do look good.

All 6 cars have typical 90s bloated airbag steering wheels. The only halfway decent looking one is the BMW because the roundel logo is actually a full color badge and not embossed like the other 5. I'm a Benz guy, but the Oldsmobile and Cadillac do have nicer looking interiors overall.

>>14810472
ikr? I love the simplicity of it, but all things considered, it looks like an interior that's 10 years older than it actually is.

Chuck Jordan had such an eye for detail. He was behind many of the glorious Cadillacs of the 1950s and when they brought him back to Cadillac in the 90s, he really did his thing.

These Eldorados photograph nicely, but in person there are so many minute details that make then extraordinarily beautiful. Especially when you compare them other cars of the time period.

The front fenders are raised to a peak that sits above the hood and the trunk is recessed just a little bit. It's such a subtle touch, but it gives the car a very unique classic feel, without being tacky or too much. The sharp, muscular crease above the rear belt line was a nice throwback to the 68 Eldorado and the way it flowed into the fenders and through the taillights in combination with the recessed trunk gave the appearance of very small fins. It was a very understated and contemporary take on the tail-fins that had become a Cadillac signature. Everything about this car flows perfectly and I think most would agree that it has aged extremely well and will continue to do so.
>>
>>14816793
>The sharp, muscular crease above the rear belt line was a nice throwback

For sure. The Eldo is about the only car from the 90s I can think of that did this. It seemed to be coming back in the mid-late 00's with the E class, Charger, STI, but now we seem to be headed back to a more bulbous generic commuter look.

We all know that black, woman, cuck, and jew are going be garbage.

So its basically a guessing game about how disinterested joey will sound, what some guy will do, and if they will fuck up the stig character or not.
