I've been obsessively combing craigslist, cars.com & autotrader for a Ford F150. Basically I want a reliable truck that I can pick up for 1-2k. Doesn't have to be pretty or get good gas mileage, but ideally it won't immediately need a rebuild. Are there any god tier models of the F150 or F250 from the 90s? Does anyone have one that has been extremely reliable that you would recommend?
>>
Yes they're goood. The inline 6 isn't a speed demon but is bulletproof along with the rest of their engines, lots of parts too being the most popular truck.

Got her for $1735. Crawled around under it and beat on the frame with a hammer then drove over a bunch of parking space dividers to see if anything was going to break.

It was very challenging finding a 4 door 4x4 full size manual truck for under $2000 took me like 6 weeks and I wasn't even after a certain brand. Happy with what I got though.

What was the catch?

>Got her for $1735

She's hot and all but that's pretty hefty price to pay for the girl.

Fairly bad body rust even for a Chrysler
>>
>>14807301
Shit if I could keep her parked in the garage when I'm not using her I'd gladly pay that for her.
>>
>>14807292
All the fucking rust.
>>
>>14807292
It's a Chrysler.
>>
>>14807266
What would be the max mileage something like that could last?
>>
>>14807284
Holy hell that's a lot of rust. I don't really have to worry about rust at all though, I live in California
>>
>>14807244
Any model f 150 from 87-96 will be great no real problems besides rust , the 300 4.9l straight six is legendarily reliable especially with the 5 speed manual , the 5.0 v8 and 5.8 v8s are also incredibly durable but are more gas hungry. In your price range expect at a minimum to have to do a full tuneup , water pump , heater core flush , and assess the condition of the suspension most commonly the ball joints and tie rod ends will need replacing all that should set you back around 500 dollars in parts over the purchase price
>>
>>14807353
Honestly look for one that has been private,y owned , not used by a construction company and beaten to death , check the floorboard door jambs and rear frame behind the rear suspension shackles for rust bring a hammer to check the frame and make sure it's solid at that point , they also love to break behind the front axle pivot arms so check those places too.
Tyler , find one that's been the best cared for lowest miles in your price range avoid anything owned by a contractor or building firm with as little rust as possible , miles don't man as much if it's obviously been cared for,

Sorry little drunk hope that's been helpful have owned an 87 f150 with the 5.0 auto a 91 with the 300 six manual and a 95 f150 with the 5.0 they're amazing trucks that put up with a lot of abuse

That looks like a really good deal anon. Try to talk him down a few hundred though. There's got to be a reason he's getting rid of it. That tire shot made me kek

What are some red flags in trucks other than rust?

Well, as per the notes, the head gasket is brown, so you'd need to paint it.

You got a pretty good deal, I also got mine for $400 but it's rusted to hell, and I'm constantly replacing stuff on mine, probably because it was sitting for years before I bought it.
>>
>>14807308

Hell I would to.

But the maintenance adds up...

I'd convert her to vape if she was my daily so it wouldn't be too expensive.
