It's all documented dealer service, Anon.

Unless it's the old truck, then it's me.

>Tune up
On my 99s, if the CEL comes on I check the faults and consider replacing any faulty shit. The Passat should have its timing belt replaced soon which I'll pay for. On my fox body, sometimes I twist the little screw on the 4bbl and I have a couple spare ones that I tinker with.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH

Why didn't you get the RCF or wait for the GSF?!?!
>>

On topic, I do every bit of work myself I can. I've got a guy who used to work at Kia on my team so I can get pretty much anything done for pennies on the dollar, or alternatively a six-pack. Seriously though, how's it feel driving your V8 09' IS?

Tune up what? My engine just werks.

I don't own any tools, and it's a fucking pain trying to walk 2 blocks from my car to my dorm.

I used to work on my car back when I was still in high school and lived with my parents.

Occupation doesn't equal education. Modern American colleges are just barely-adult daycares.
>>
there's a balance of facilities, equipment, and expertise

there are certain things i won't do again until i get air tools or a car lift, even though i know how. i don't think the time and effort are worth it. i guess if i was hard up for cash and needed to keep my car running i would, but i do have an income.

maintenance stuff like oil, fluids, belts, brakes, etc. take so little equipment that you have very little reason not to do them, if working on cars is of any interest to you. you're paying someone to loosen 1-3 bolts.

>>14805286

I do my own. 1.4L Turbo Darts(I wouldn't repeat this purchase) require spark plug replacement every 30k miles. The cost is $300 at the dealership. Until the end of 2015 the only source for the correct part was through the dealership @ $33 each. Now I can get them at OReillys for $12 each.

I stopped going to a mechanic when they took my car for a joy ride. As the car goes through maintenance, I learn from what I've done to it.

cant have it both ways. how about you learn something and go make yourself some real money.

no, counting the turns on the tie rod doesnt mean you dont have to thrust align it.

no, you cant just install that water pump without cleaning off the old gasket.

i could use you over at my shop. someone young and hungry to learn and make a lot of money.

finding a good tech or a good learning tech is so fuckn hard these days. im a service manager, but im 25 years old. literally everyone else at my entire company (big indi shop) is over 40 lol. we need young fresh blood. sick of making customers wait 2 hours for an alignment cuz bartholomew wants to bullshit about his ar-15.
>>
>>14805927
looks like shit
>>
>>14809109
your going to have no customers if you keep up with that kind of wait time
>>
>>14809115
its why im always in some shit with a tech. i wanna make MONEY. these guys are older and "just wanna work". mentality clashes with mine.
>>
>>14809115
plus, they dont like having some young kid have ot tell them how to do something the right way and quicker. i understand why, but frankly any knowledge of the industry i have, these guys have a million times over. they already know why im barking at them. they just wanna be cozy and scrape by. fuck that shit man. i want that ghetty green
>>
>>14804975
The fuck do they do to it?
>>
>>14810080
I'm fucked senpai, they don't tell you that in the Lexus brochures. FML.
>>
as a tech i wouldn't let anyone touch my car
>>
>>14804962
I only take it in to get an alignments after I'm done messing around with things that can throw it off (which is almost never). Other then that it is 100% me and my friend.
>>
>>14809109
Shit, I'd love to be where you are then. Wanna get into the industry, but I've got no direction on where to go. Only person I know that I could ask about stuff like this was my dad, and he pretty much pointed me into $26k in debt. I'd rather avoid that if possible.

Great block better be a V12. Only real man can work on a V12 block you gaytard.
>>

>do you do your own tune up
Thats a bit of an outdated concept OP.
Tune up would involve adjust the ignition timing and making adjustments to the carburettor but that shits all 25+ years out of date

i do as much as i can on my own.
today i'm replacing shocks and springs and greasing the adj. camber arms that squeak like a mofo.

should have bought the quality ones.
>>
>>14809081
3 is perfect, but it would be really cool to get some more powerful ones... 75w xenon in similar housing as an example

My next car (HiLux, Navara) will have a large LED-bar on the roof and two high-powered large xenon or LED-buckets in the front
