Who the fuck preorders a car that he will maybe get in 2 years? What is wrong with these people
>>
>>14800989

>put in deposit
>if final production model looks good wait to receive car
>if you're concerned, cancel pre-order and get deposit back

It's really a win-win situation. Tesla gets to measure interest in the car and people can reserve one and yet still back out if something comes up

It's Tesla's 190e. The opportunity to buy into the image, brand and symbolism/status symbol at middle class prices.

That's my main thing - fuck dealerships. I'm not going to consider buying one until the final production model is out and reviewed, but I like their business model. You don't have to worry about negotiating or wondering if you're getting ripped off.

Depends on how you look at the situation. Yes, plenty of dealerships are scammy as fuck, but real world results have shown that going direct sale/no haggle will increase the average price people pay for cars

I see the pro's and the con's of both models, in a perfect world you could have both: Either spec out a car exactly the way you want it and order it directly from the car maker, or go to a dealership and haggle for a better deal on existing stock. It's extremely easy to know if you are getting a good deal or not with the information available to consumers today, you just have to do your research

An attempt to monetize hype.

If you watch Elon's tweet, be basically has admitted that nothing about the car is finalized, not even it's profile (he mentioned redesigning for larger hatch and trying to meet a lower drag standard needed to make their range goal)

The 3 is about as far along, development wise, as the Bolt was over a year ago when it looked like it was wearing a ball gag in concept car form.

This scares me a bit, I let about a third of my Tesla stock go yesterday, rolled it into my normal mutual fund.
>>
>>14801041
they want to be able to produce 200k/year by 2020, but that's throughout their line up

>>14801063

>>
>>14801082
NUUMI didn't come with the tooling, when GM and Toyota quit that joint operation, they split the tooling up between them.

Tesla will have to pour millions of dollars into tooling to make 500k cars in that plant, and they'd have to hire thousands.

You don't get a competent workforce gratias when you buy a plant, that shit'd be slavery.

No, they're gonna have to hire and train and train.

They won't have to add on to the building though, that's for sure.
>>
>>14801179
Dollars to donuts they're gonna deliver the highest spec cars first, too.

I'd be shocked if any of the first year have a pre-tax break price of less than 50k.

They still haven't shipped an X with a sticker of less than $130,000

pretty much only the west coast and the 2nd release zone, maybe the third too, will be able to receive a full tax break federally as after 200k cars are sold, the break begins to diminish

>>14801219

do you have any engineering experience?

this sort of thing isn't that expensive

you buy a $20k machine, pay a $60k/year engineer to program it, and then rinse and repeat

it's usually between 5-15 million to do something like this. 30 million max to tool an entire assembly line

right now elon musk has plenty of 30 millions in his bank account
>>
>>14801239
They probably need a lot more than a few screwdrivers

>$20k machine

>>
>>14801219
No, mid hundreds of millions. The facility isn't empty, they've been buying tools for years, and the building is fully ready to go and is wired/set up exactly right for a car plant.
>>14801222
If the 3 isn't delayed at all, the Bolt will be on the market for 6 months before the 3 drops.

If GM sells 20,000 of them, less than a third of people with a 3 pre-order will get the full 7,500 from the Feds, and California has introduced means testing on their $2,500 credit.

I'm betting we see big lobby efforts by Tesla fans to extend the $7,500.
>>
>>14801239

adding to this

it will be VASTLY more expensive to actually build the factory

like magnitudes

but musk knows that

he's brave to go to this level of production with this level of tech

>>
>>14801239
>right now elon musk has plenty of 30 millions in his bank account
Right now Tesla is burning through 1.5 billion dollars a year in development and setting up a titanic Lion Battery plant.

Add in another 4 lines of production to bring NUUMI up to 60% capacity (his 300,000 goal) will possibly bankrupt Tesla.

God damn.

325,000 preorders. For a car. God knows how many people are gonna buy this when it actually goes on sale, but I bet it will be a lot more than the 325,000 who decided to place their orders nearly 2 years ahead of its release.

This could be it /o/. The moment when Electric cars break out into the mass market. Every major car brand right now is looking at these numbers, and though they were toying around with electrics before to appease the econuts, they're definetly going to be at the very least making electric versions of half of the models in their entire lineup. We might even see the return of NiMH batteries in electric cars, as what has been keeping them out is an oil-company owned corp that has been sitting on the patents for it, refusing to fill any orders of less than 10,000 batteries. They won't want to miss the profits they can reap from this.

This could be bad news for Honda and Toyota, who are making significant long-term investments in Hydrogen Fuel-Cell technology (which more or less is a type of EV that can be refuelled fast instead of recharged a little slower) and are just now getting off the ground with it, releasing loads of patents and directly funding infrastructure for the Hydrogen Economy they hope to establish.

Knowing /o/, many of you will cry that this is the end of Internal Combustion Engines, that they'll outlaw them and you'll never get to drive your Civic Hatch again. But I think that to the contrary, this is the end of the boring ICE cars, the minivans and bland sedans and crossovers that are so fucking ordinary that enthusiasts generally don't care for them. Mind you, we'll still have Combustion Engines for a while, I don't see them disappearing in colder and more remote areas, and I think we'll even see new types of fuel for them that produce lower emissions with higher energy returns.

But if anyone though that Electric cars were not going to be a significant force in the car industry, this is proof otherwise.
>>
>>14801256

I prefer old 4chan. Personally, I think it's more cringey now. Back then, while we shit on each other and outsiders it was mostly light hearted and juvenile. Even with raids someone would apologize and put shoe on head and we moved on although there were times of going too far like fucking with the families of dead kids.

Nowadays, I feel there's too much emphasis on the negative and insulting people far more than we previously did. The need to be exceeding contrarian, wallowing in self-pity, and going out of the way to find stuff to be angry about is in my opinion far more cringey. But after a decade, here I still am.

I don't see it "a long way off", just remove unnecessary weight, replace heavy materials, and add a mode tuned for performance, that plus a sleek body is all it needs.
>>
>>14801903
Batteries are a tertiary cooling concern, we have not seen the limits of battery cooling in a Tesla because the motors and inverters overheat long before the batteries will.

The 3 is a new platform so it will be interesting to see if they fixed the cooling system.
