The miata is a better car. It's built better, and would be a better "drivers" car. That said, the camaro SS will be faster in a straight line, and on larger faster tracks. So it's what you want. A precision instrument and be beating stop light racing by everyone and their grandma, or a blunt object with more power. And the capability to make a ton more on top of what you have.

I've owned a Subaru BRZ. Really really cheap interior and electronics. Poor reliability for a Jap car. DEAD ASS slow for something that with options runs $30k. Seriously those fucking things are pulling 7.6 0-60 stock.

I'd get a loaded Ford Focus ST which is a full 2 seconds faster stock. It looks as good, and the build quality is way better.

I'm sorry, and I say this as a huge fan of Japanese sports cars: The 86 and BRZ are HUGE disappointments for their price.

You need a solid 10-15k worth of upgrades to make them decently fast. My friend added a turbo to his stock one and it handled like dogshit with the extra power. To make it work he needed to upgrade the suspension, new larger wheels, better rubber. To make it livable he needed better seats, head unit, steering wheel, and car stereo.

For the amount of money he spent he could have gotten a loaded Ford Focus RS.
