Burger here. That's an MG??? What year?

We haven't seen MGs in the US since the 70s. (BL / Morris years)... so we have lots of Old Brit nostalgia.

From what I can determine the recent MGs aren't loved much in the UK. What's the reason?
>>
Americans and Australians are retarded and think anything that doesn't have 300hp or more and either v8 or turbo charged engine is shit...

These are countries where burnout competitions gain more interest than things like hill climbs and motorkahans by the way.

MG ZR 2003
rover and MG went bust in 2006 from poor management and failed buyouts by BMW and and another company. The petrol engines were prone to head gasket failure around 40,000 to 70,000 the gaskets came from a german company who had never made gaskets for cars before and had only done bikes. I drive a diesel version with an indestructible perkins derived engine.

Nah, the old MGs from Abingdon were the best cars British Leyland made by a large margin. MG had pride in their work and never struck once, and their cars reflect it.

The triumph spitfire look damn good with a hard top on them, and the gt6 is just sexy
>>
>>14798311
But I actually like the rubber bumpers. MG actually took the effort to mold them into the form of the car instead of tacking them on like BMW and Mercedes Benz. It updated the look of the car, too.

I still think it was retarded how BL completely dropped the ball with MG in the 70s. How did MG get its start? Performance mods of Morris cars. Literally all they had to do was make hot hatch versions of BL cars to fight the Golf GTI and they would have sold like crazy. It's fucking criminal that they didn't even make a hatchback that wasn't the Maxi until the 80s, let alone a hot hatch.

/o/ is filled with aussies who like muscle, commuter cucks who justify their civic/golf/focus, and amerifat NU MUSCLE who don't have the capacity to appreciate anything that doesn't have 700hp. Of course they have classic british roadsters. Even the miata threads, that are about the best evolution of the british roadster, are filled with trolls who think they can actually shit on miata owners and have them feel like. Like come on they're secure enough to buy it, you think your half-assed attempt to troll will actually get them riled up? They're too happy with actually driving their cars to give you attention.

So /o/ hates these things. They don't "get it." Of course they done. 75-80% of /o/ are only concerned with

stance
vape
making themselves feel better about whatever FWD shitbox their parents handed down to them
jerking off about hp numbers, which is mainly used to haul the pig fat disgusting chassis around highways
muh luxury, which is 90% baseless, useless, and already overpriced from the factory

British roadsters are:
classic, gorgeous as fuck looks
just the right amount of hp, because 30-50mph winding country roads are the GOD tier of roads, 85mph+ straight highways are the literal piss shit tier of roads
good handling, great communication between road, steering, and driver
LIGHTWEIGHT you fucking tards, lightness makes everything better (acceleration, handling, braking)
SIMPLE you cucks "oh I can't do SHIT unless I have GPS" "oh I need my heated seats and fake ass carbon fiber dash trim" "oh I need my 25 fucking buttons on my huge ass steering wheel"

Some of them, mostly oldfags, mostly OVER the age of 25, know what's up, that these are literally some of the most pure driving cars ever made, ever. Modern legislation makes these things impossible to be made again.

Oh oh oh but they break down! These only break down because you're a lazy dumbfuck who can't be bothered to actually care about your car and learn to fucking wrench. It's not hard>>

They built over 500k of the things, and sent over 350k of them to the US. It has quite possibly the best parts situation of any classic car after the Ford Mustang and Model A. If it's still around now, it'll stay around until it gets in a wreck.

>>
>>14800760

I think he meant they were not neccessarily "rare" but just that since they're just old cars they're naturally getting rarer, as is the nature of older cars. Yes they're actually quite common if you want to look for one.

It's a shame really, that since they're so relatively common, cheap to buy, simple to work on, that they aren't more popular with teens/college people/younger people.

The overwhelming majority of modern day young people would rather text in their google car or tesla than own and drive classic british roadster.

Did they ever make one with 16 valves? I was thinking it would make a good stand-in for the Sprint engine

Yes. A twin cam, 16 valve engine. Both Na and turbo as well.

One glaring issue I see with a Saab swap is the distributor. On the Saab, the engine is backwards. You won't be able to fit that engine in a TR7 and still be able have a distributor.

It's strange, the Saab engine is laid out the same, yet sits backwards in the bay. That would mean it would lean over the wrong way in the triumph engine bay.
Also, how could you be sure of the car's birthplace? The year says '80, but it could have been sitting on the dealer's lot. What tells do you see?

The builders plate would say. It'd say the plant of manufacture and the month of manufacture as well.

Do you think this information could be gleaned from the VIN? Some carmakers actually put a ton of info there, but I'm not sure if British Leyland could handle something that complex...

Yes, actually. Per the TRdrivers website:
>1975 -1978, Speke-built cars (Prefix: ACG, ACH, ACL, CAN, ACT, ACW)
>1978 -1979, Canley- built cars (Prefix: TCG, TCN, TCT, TCV, TCW)
>1979 - 1980. Canley-built cars (Prefix: TP)
>1980 1981, Solihull-built cars (Prefix SAT)
>1981, Solihull-built cars (Prefix: SAT, with check digit)

All you have to do is get the VIN.

I never said there wouldn't be difficulties with the Saab swap. But it could be done and would be an interesting project.

You could also get the certificate from the British Motor Heritage Trust. They have the records for almost all British cars made post war, and some pre-war.

I fucking love classic british roadsters but man, i can't justify choosing one over a miata.

They're at least mechanically simple.

You can justify an MGB a lot easier than you can an Alfa Romeo.
