The STi is using pretty outdated technology at this point and is due for revamp sometime soon. The Subaru AWD is better than the Golf's 4Motion though. My father was trying to decide between these two cars so I've done a lot of research.

I sell Subarus for a living and was a previous mechanic. The new STI is fucking great, albeit with the old engine. If you stay on stock tune and keep your warranty, you'll be absolutely fine. Just make sure you actually take care of the damn thing. Don't flog the fuck out of it until it's fully warmed up, and break the damn thing in correctly.

Subaru hasn't made anything thought provoking in more than 10 years. Their halo car looks like a 2012 altima. The sad part, for 50k you're barely faster than the mulletbro camaro on a track and likely slower in a straight line. The wrx has become pigfat over the years at 34XX now. Subaru has become complacent.

2013 Sti hatchback that was fully loaded and baby driven at 33k km cost about 37k. Insurance with one accident is 310 a month in AB.
