Why would anyone pay more than the minimum price for a motor oil that meets API Service SN? SN is the highest standard available from any manufacturer.

The highest API standard, maybe, but API is definitely NOT the only place for an oil spec to be written.

Can you recommend a better specification than API?

Not the guy you replied to but Dexos is a good standard

SN is the newest standard, not the "highest standard" IMO.
I think it comes down to: do you want a longer lasting catalytic converter or engine?

Except that the dexos standard has been roundly panned by the industry as just another licensing fee scam by GM. Valvoline openly admits that all of their SN oils meet the dexos standard but they won't put the dexos label on the bottle because they refuse to pay the $0.10 fee per quart to GM.

> shop talk conspiracy bullshit
The average consumer doesn't pay attention to licensing shit, and besides, the Lubrizol spiderchart data begs to differ
its a good oil spec
MB 229.5 nigga
