Found an NA on Craigslist I'm going to look at after work.

>1995
>white
>stock
>manual transmission
>roll bar added (car in thread photo is not actual car)
>135k miles
>Asking price $3,000.

The car belonged to a couple that just got divorced. It was the husband's toy, but the wife got it. It is not her dd.

I'm not gonna pay $3k, but probably first lowball the shit out of her at $1200 or $1500 if it looks okay and go up to $2,000-$2,200 if I really like it.

What are some things I should look for that are automatic red flags? I've heard rust just in front of the rear wheels=instant walk away.

Anything else?
>>
>>14737271
You're not going to talk someone into taking 33% off their asking price dude.

They may take 2500 cash money.
>>
>>14737282
Hopefully you're wrong.

It's a 21 year old Miata north of the Mason-Dixon line. I say there's a 50% chance I find something rotted through or rotten before the test drive anyways.
>>
the market has kind of shifted, so 3k for that MIGHT be fair if it's zero rust and well kept mechanically
>>
>>14737271
I have bought a NA '93, 1.6 torsen miata 2 weeks ago for ~$2500. Was looking really nice, despite having two layers of paint (I assumed somebody did the sides and painted the whole thing as miatas have an issue with rust). Took it to a workshop last weekbecause the clutch was broken and when I was picking it up they I should scrape it because it has too much rust. The car had a good story too, a guy selling it had a better car for himself (jaguar F type) so I figured out he must have been taking care of the car, as he have owned it for a long time and isnt dirt poor.

I keep having nightmares about rust, my jewish mind can't handle thoughts about losing $2,500 of shiny bills. I want to get rid of it and buy a newer car that isn't just a big pile of rust.

tl;dr unless you are fine with investing $3,000 into rust issues, don't bother.
>>
That car would probably sell at a wholesale auction for like $1,700-$2,100 depending on the day, op

Stay as close to that as possible with private party. Feel good at $2k. $2.5k is okay.
>>
>>14737491
I would get it checked out before buying it, for sure.
>>
>>14737508
I have, I took it to MOT test before buying it. Was under the car, no sign of rust - just litte dots that I thought to take care of in summer
the guy said it's in good shape, that it will need a little care and be like new
>>
I'm not trying to be a dick, but how stupid do you these people are? If you offer them 1.2k that's a great way to make them think you're wasting their time. If that happened to me I definitely wouldn't sell that person anything.

Like the other anon ITT said, 2,400-2500 is a good price. If you learn how to haggle this is a very realistic goal. To be honest this is probably what they want to get out of it anyway. Just, ffs, don't offer $1200.
>>
>>14737271
3k
lol wot!?

I paid $642 (£410 in August last year) for a 1.8 NA, '95 Jap import with 90k kilometers (56k miles).
>>
>>14737271
If you are short of money, offer something like $2000-2100 for it, you will manage to negotiate the price down to 2300-2500. Offer a price below 2000 and they will laugh at you.

2500 is probably how much they want for it and they will drop 100-300 if you offer them money and negotiate a bit for example using imperfections.

Set your mind on buying it for 2,5 grand and anything more you scrape off the price is a bonus
you need negotiation skills tho
>>
>>14737271
>lowball the shit out of her at $1200 or $1500

If I was the seller an knew it was a solid car I would tell you to get fucked. Offer me something reasonable like an honest man would.

2K is the lowest you should offer if its a decent car otherwise you risk angering the selling party.

I will mess with/waste time with idiots that really low-ball me. Dont be that guy.
>>
>>14737758
Your opinion is irrelevant, this is fucking bong land...
>>
>>14737802
*This isnt fucking bong land.
>>
>>14737282
The guy I bought my mx-5 from wanted $7850 Australian dollarydoos and I paid $4k, depends on the circumstances
>>
>>14737798
This. $1,200 is ridiculous. $1,500 is too low.

If you know how to negotiate, start at least at $1,700 or $1,800 or you'll be laughed off their property.
>>
>>14737821
>>14737798
You two don't know how to jew. The seller is way to high, the only correct thing to do is low ball.
>>
>>14737731
I have sold numerous cars and every time I have had some retard phone up and ask if I would take less than half the asking price.
My response has always been "I will not accept offers over the phone or through email. If you want to make an offer come and look at the car".
I have no idea where the fuck these cunts get off imagining that they're gonna get something for fuck all. Twats
I even price the cars with some wiggle room built into the price, say if I want 500 I'd price it at 575.
In OPs case I expect the seller wants around 2750, but may sell for closer to 2500 if its been on the market for some time.

I'm not saying OP shouldn't haggle but you have to be realistic and respectful of the seller.
If OP offered me 1200 on a 3000 car I'd politely but firmly ask him to leave.
>>
>>14737835
you seem like a jewish faggot
>>
>>14737842
No... this is how normal negotiating works....

I dont know where you guys get off thinking you can offer 60% less than what its listed for.

Always assume you can get 10% off not fucking half.

Not in the first world...

Literally your fault for living where you live. Do something about it if you dont like it.
>>
>>14737869
>>mfw average wage is $500/month
you mean week right?
after tax?

No wonder 50% of /o/ doesn't own their own car.
>>
>>14737881
month, faggot
>>
>>14737876

Yes, it's his fault that he can't pack his bags and move to a first world country where they will embrace him with open arms.

Protip, that happens never.
>>
>>14737835
I agree with you, mate. How can people make an offer on something they haven't seen in person? How do they know it's not worth the asking price?
>>
>>14737901
>Protip, that happens never.

Oh really? Thats not what mama Merkel in Germany said....

Its EXTREMELY easy to move to a first world country now.... they will even let you molest/rape the local women now.
>>
>>14737934
Are you a shitskin? Because I'm not.
>>
>>14737982
Im implying you are....
>>
>>14737997

jesus, 500$ a month that's like 20 hours a week minimum wage
>>

any kind of visible quarter panel rust. those things rust from the inside out so if it's visible on the outside, the inside is probably fucked already
>>
>>14737934
germany is a shithole
>>
Lol here's how it went.

>Rear quarter panel rusted, so it is rotting from the inside out.
>Speedometer doesn't work.
>Runs pretty rough.
>Steering slightly misaligned.

Total piece of shit but still fun as hell. I offered $300 and she thought about it. I wouldn't pay a dime more than $500. This fuckin thing won't last through the summer, but it's worth five bills just to beat on until it dies and then sell some parts.
