Apparently CV axles are becoming more affordable to replace, yet the repair shop still charges $250 per axle.

Does anybody care to explain that logic? The parts are cheap, but the labor is still unnecessarily expensive.

May as well do the job myself.

I had mine done for 125 in labor.

then do it yourself numb nuts
>>
>>14735134
But what if I don't put the axles back on correctly?

What if I forget to torque the axle nuts?
>>
>>14735116
Because taking the driveshaft off the car to replace the joint is not a 5 minute job on most cars and replacing the joint itself isn't either.

Do it yourself if you think you are being scammed
>>
>>14735154
That's why you pay someone to do it and pay them whatever they charge you because you can't do it yourself anyway.
If you can't do it better or can't find someone cheaper, then stop complaining and learn working on your car

Then your axles will be put back on incorrectly and the axle nuts will not be properly torqued.

Mochanic here..it really depends on the car. Ive done one in 15 minutes or 2 hours. Are you saying $250 for 1 axle for parts and labor? Most axles are $60-100 depending on car

while in a way its true OP, ive been in the professional auto repair world for years now.

back when i was a tech, axles were about $300 out the door (parts/labor)

slowly, as other things do naturally, they got cheaper.

im now a manager at a pretty busy shop (we do about 8-12k on weekdays, 15-18k on saturdays) and all our CV axles (excluding wonky ones) are 199.99 out the door. its a menu price item.

you need to find a different shop!
