hey /o/
I'm moving to a state soon where all cars post 1968 require yearly emission inspections.

I have a daily driver with obd2 and a 100% stock engine, but I want to build something powerful and that means something pre 1968. I have about 8k all in for this project.

my question is, what are some good cheap pre-1968 cars that I can stuff an LQ into or something
>>
>>14712544
montecarlo

or just do it right and make it pas emissions

I'm mostly considering cast iron truck motors due to how cheap they are.
>>
>>14712578
don't fall for the LS meme, if the car you bought has a 350 or bigger chevy, or a ford 302-351 you can make as much power as an LS
>>
>>14712575
it doesn't seem very easy to pass emissions here

http://dmv.utah.gov/register/inspections

seems like they do physical + emissions inspections every year. it's ridiculous

>>14712589
I kind of want port injection though

I don't really know what I want though obviously

...what
>>

What fucking state requires cars to be 48 years old to be exempt from emissions?
>>
>>14712678
>>14712682
emissions seems like a huge pain in the ass in utah state

If someone from Utah could chime in that'd be cool
>>
>>14712691
Okay I looked at the laws for Utah. Just buy it in an exempt county and claim that you keep it in that county. Rent a storage garage or something.
>>
>>14712670
>Emissions tests are not required for diesel vehicles registered in Utah county

be a fully sick kunt and drop a cummins on it

this is similar to what I want to do. he paid $500 for the 6.0 LQ4.

>>14712734
I guess that might work. still, it'd be nice not having to worry about it.

this is tempting...

Emissions didn't even exist until 1972. How the hell is a 1969-71 Hemi going to pass?
>>
>>14712881
that's what I was thinking. ask the Mormons I guess. maybe they make those owners retrofit their cars with cats or something. it's some BS

Not sure if you're a truck guy OP but you could always get a 60's truck and build it up. they're cheap enough

utah is just bad because the Wasatch front traps a bunch of air right there and makes a ton of smog. not to mention all the disgusting smells that the lake shits out.

Arizona and Nevada probably aren't that bad when it comes to emissions

2bh digging the truck idea. I like the 60-66 C10

>Montecarlo
>Mustang
>C10

Utah only has emissions testing in its four most populous counties from Ogden to Provo because of the awful mountain inversions trapping smog above the Salt Lake metro especially in winter. I don't know about the inspections in Utah, but usually they're a piece of cake to pass in the US in general.

Nevada has no inspections, but emissions testing (same 1968 cutoff as Utah) in Reno and Las Vegas, basically the two only populated areas of the entire state.

Same goes for Arizona, no inspections but emissions testing (with a 1966 cutoff) in Phoenix and Tuscon.

Really there's only a few states that check all vehicles and many states that only check those registered in the largest metro areas, which I consider sensible conduct, so if you want to live without testing at all either stay away from the big cities or move to a hick flyover state.
>>
>>14716711
>1968 cutoff
>19 fucking 66 cutoff

Holy fuck, and I thought California's 1975 was bad.

Anything from before 1996 is exempt in my state. Feels decent man. A rolling 20 year exemption would be nice, but beggars can't be choosers.
>>
>>14712544
Here in Georgia there are counties out in the "country" that don't require emissions. Just register your vehicle there. Depending on laws you might have to own property or something. I have a rental house there so I can just use that one for registration.
>>
>>14716746
Far too many 20+ year old shitboxes still on the road as daily drivers for this to have use, and that's usually right around the age when people start ripping their cats out instead of replacing them. 30 or 40 years make far more sense.
>>
>>14716756

I also want to point out that some states have a modified vehicle registration you can apply for that exempts emissions or normal testing or something. It takes a bit and has to go to the governor but essentially they just waive you on OBD-II testing.

Also I am pretty sure the requirement for emissions is to cars 25 years or newer. So right now just buy something built before 1991 and you shouldnt have to do emissions.
