Hey /o/, my grandfather owns two Porsche RS Americas, and I was wondering if anybody else knew/cared about the model besides him. Anybody here know anything about them?

Why is it called RS "America"?
>>
>>14701179
because it meets American regulations the normal RS doesnt
>>
>>14701179
It was only ever sold in North America
>>
>>14701143
I have a 74 Carrera RS that's in need of restoration. It's slightly faster than the standard carrera of that year, which is to say not very fast. Older 911's are nice to look at but overrated. I had a 996 GT3 RS for 2 years. It was a piece of shit like the other 996's so I sold it.
>>
>>14701179
It has cupholders.

Sure, buddy

Because it's an RS but not as good.

>>14701713
There are people on here with 996 turbos, the dude with a gallardo and vetteguy with like $200k worth of C5s and C6s and you doubt this shit?
>>
>>14701972
>5mph bumpers are bad
>>
>>14701987
Yes, they are. Ugly, bad for aerodynamics and add weight.
There's also the small matters of the LSD being optional on the america, and it not having the RS engine, gearbox, brakes, softer suspension, no seam welded chassis, thinner non magnesium wheels, no thinner glass and no hardcore bucket seats.
The majority were also ordered with the air-con/sunroof package, adding fucktons of weight back in at the worst 2 places for weight to be in a 911.

So basically an RS but shit.

The 996 GT3 RS was $90k in 2008, sold it in 2010 for the same. In the 2 years I had it I had to have the engine rebuilt because the cam bearing seized.
The 74 Carrera RS was ~60k in 2001 and has ~85k miles, needs repainted, dry rotted interior, and a few dings from rocks. Luckily the crank turns freely, but the fuel hoses are dry rotted and the oil pump is leaky (even for an old porsche). I bought it with plans of restoring it, but have been distracted with other projects. Unrestored it I'm guessing I could get $200k for it, but I'd rather restore it myself. I actually drove the car in the mid 90's before it was mine as a family friend owned it.
>>
>>14702015
sorry meant one of the crank bearings seized, not cam. getting late here.
>>
Beautiful cars dude

Keep em pristine, they're bits of history

Pics

I thought the 996.2 gt3rs was supposed to be better than the 997.1 gt3rs and those are pretty good.

Also pics.

Meant to quote >>14701199 for the second part.

>I thought the 996.2 gt3rs was supposed to be better than the 997.1 gt3rs and those are pretty good.
depends how you mean better. 996 is much more raw. 997 is more competent and faster."objectively better" as some here might say
personally I'd take the 996RS every time
>>
>>14702720
I'd rather drive the 996 but the 997 looks much better.
>>
>>14702776
agreed
>>
>>14702703
My grandfather lives too far away to go drive out and take a picture of his car. I really just wanted to know what other people thought of the car anyway.
>>
>>14702967
I know how you feel. My grandfather has a gt1 and an rs4.0 but he lives too far for me to prove it too.
>>
>>14702967
