What is it?

Never mind i see the BMW Logo
>>
>>14689872
A super shitty bmw engine that exploded upon start up.
>>
>>14689881
it ran 800-900 hp reliably. It's a 1.5l 4cyl from 33 years ago.
>>
>>14690003
>it ran 800-900 hp reliably
No it didnt. Go read about its career.
>>
>>14690017
It would have been perfectly reliable if the owner did the correct preventative maintenance, it has nothing to do with the engine, was just operator error

200mph with N/A in 1970
>>
>>14690017
I did, and the engine actually did blow up after 2 laps when running 1500hp at full boost. 800 hp was the "reliable" number that lasted the whole race.

Such a glorious and outrageous car, makes me want to fuck the environment as hard as I can

God bless.
>>
>>14689855

How is this litteraly possible?

What mods allow a 1.5litre to produce 1500hp?
>>
>>14692456
Yurop. Fuck displacement.
>>
>>14692456
Using methanol as fuel, fucktons of boost, no regards for longevity would come to mind.
Not sure how that engine did it, these are just general ideas.
>>
>>14692456
Just some overnight parts from Japan. And a stage 1 remap.
>>
>>14692490

Cool thanks. I know very little about performance engines.

It wasn't even methanol they were using in those f1 engines. Super toxic exotic fuel blends, you should look at pit crews from the era. Spacesuits almost.

the NASCAR spec ones could do it since they made around 800hp

the street ones couldnt come close

not all that impressive since European race cars were hitting 200+ in the 30s with less horsepower

pic related went 226mph
>>
>>14692530
200mph was easy
>>
>>14692518
delicious low compression
>>
>>14692653
Yeah I'm wondering, how and why did they do that? Do you need need low compression ratios for large induction pressures?
>>
>>14692663
Basically, yes, to prevent detonation.
>>
>>14692663
Forced induction is just compressing air before it enters the engine. Compression means heat, and too much of it means detonation - which means explodey engines.

They do it by simply using domed pistons and big cilinder heads.

No wonder Hitler committed suicide.

>implying just because the engine was originally designed in 1964 that modern drag engines have anything to do with the engineering that went into the original engines
They share the dimensions, that's about it.
>>
>>14692405
That is based on a full factory 440 4 barrel. The engine that did the deed in the Daytona was a Hemi Dual quad with race exhaust, full forged balanced internals and a fat cam. With 3.23 gears and the 4 speed (with gear 4 set below direct drive as available in the Scat Pack/RTS) factory Hemi cars could get to nearly 180 before running out of steam. >>14692530
See the source above. There are many others available to view as well. I thought it was well known the Charger Daytona was the first to break 200 on the circle. Actually, they said it could have been faster if they could have removed the wind but that caused too much rear end lift because lol no diffuser on the rear
>>
>>14692686
Dished. They used dished pistons to lower the CR. Couple that with a raised deck block and a short stroke crank (which is obvious from the displacement and RPM ratings) and there you go.

>>14692693
Hemi stronk.

>>14692727
Very true, but you think that BMW 4 banger shared anything with a contemporary BMW 4 minus maybe pulleys?

for max hp they sealed off the waste gates
>>
>>14692456
before the fuel consumption limits got too harsh they would run rich to help keep things cool
a big problem of the early stuff was inaccurate fuel metering
and it was safer to run rich than lean
>>
>>14692456
Unlike most engines which are made out of affordable parts and design to last 100,000+ miles, these are made out of the most expensive shit you can buy, and are designed to make it til the end of the race and blow up. The tolerances are so tiny you couldn't start it up if it was 10 degrees Celsius outside.
