2002 Subaru Forester

Got it $3.5k with all maintenance done including new head gaskets.
Only problem is the downstream sensor on the cat is out, which doesn't affect anything.

Also, what size rims should I throw on it?

Nice choice. I had a 99 that I loved. Got rid of it when the head gaskets started to go. It was at 190,000 miles, and I didn't want to sink the money into fixing it. In retrospect, I really liked that car. I regret selling it a lot.

This isn't a car you spend a bunch of money on. This gen has unique parts and parts in common with the other platforms. What are your goals for this one?

OP here

First on the list are intake and suspension upgrades, with the replacement of the rims.

Nothing more I have considered yet.
>>
>>14670357
Speaking of that, good luck with CV axles if you ever need them. I had a terrible time finding ones for my 99 that had an ABS ring. I ended up buying one for an 03 (next generation up) and using that in mine. They have the same dimensions, so it worked out, but just be aware that there can be some weird parts issues.
>>
>>14670374
Nooooo don't do it. Suspension bits are silly because it's not quite an impreza or wrx so unless your raising it up it will likely be more difficult than you will want to tackle if you want it done correctly. The height difference in suspension is the issue. Please don't just cut springs. Intake won't do anything positive for you.
>>
>>14670403
What do you recommend I begin replacing?
>>
>>14670420
Last time timing belt? Check cv boots. Leaky struts. LeaKY valve covers. Oil changed recent? You said service/maintenance done but which specifics?
>>
>>14670420
Oh and make sure fuel gauge is accurate
>>
I bought a 2001 a year ago for 2600, had 136k miles, 5 speed manual. If I could go back in time I'd wait out for one with a sunroof because those fuckers are huge. I love mine, part of beauty is that you can literally go over any curb. I once saved a skunks life thanks to the ride height. I bought some trim restoration dye and it made the plastic trim on the bottom look much better. I also took off the mudflaps.

Good luck with yours!

Timing belt was replaced around 130k. The suspension hasn't been touched since it was bought from the dealership years ago. The oil is new and also the ATF changed recently.

Basically what I am suggesting, keep in mind do what pleases you it is your car, is ensure its sorted out and reliable, and basic and important items are addressed so you can enjoy using it daily. If you plan on keeping it a while there are some quality of life items you can start with. Does it have drum rear brakes? Swap them from 02-03 wrx as its not too difficult to find a donor car. Plan on doing any adventuring or just keeping it on pampered buttery smooth asphalt?

The brakes are stock with relatively new brake pads. I plan to do some very occasional driving in dirt and grass areas, but will avoid rocky areas.

>>14671510
Technically its front wheel biased, but the AWD on the automatics is pretty bad and likes to throw the power wherever it wants. You can get sideways in corners really easy. I had a 2000 that I hooned hard in jumped it a few times and did other various hoon shit in it. They can take a beating that's for sure.
