Im moving to heavy work and i need a truck asap, i have 8000 to spend. What are my best options? Probably gonna get one used. Ram? F-f250?
>>
>>14662588
They're gonna be shit at that price point. You want a pre-2006 cummins or 7.3 powerstroke.
>>
I would look for a f250 or gmc/chevy 2500
The chevy will be cheaper.. and cheaper to fix, but more likely to break
The f250 will be the most reliable, but least likely to fail.

the dodge.. lol.. o.k. maybe a late 90s cummins. Maybe a 5.9.. but it will have small issues.

1996 or older F-250. Your faggy ass won't want the 4.9L I6 but it's the motor to get. They're basically indestructible and they put out the same torque as the V8 while having better economy.
>>
Ferds tend to be the nicest driving and comfiest.
Chebbies tend to get the best gas mileage and have the cheapest repairs.
Dodge's tend to be the cheapest to buy.

If you don't need the extra hauling capacity of the 3/4 or 1 ton models, don't bother with it. 1/2 ton trucks have come a long way since the 70's... most "half-ton" trucks now can tow 7000lbs and carry 1 ton of payload. The extra weight and gearing on the 3/4 - 1 ton models really eats into gas mileage and stopping distance.

Everybody will laugh at you, though. A lot of people prefer to never feel the load behind them. If you're one of those people go ahead and get the 3/4 ton.

i drive a ford ranger with an 8 footer on top, a 22 foot extension ladder, and a 6 footer in the bed as well as over 5000 feet of 4 different kinds of wire, a wire stand, like 40 different cell units and hundreds of boxes of parts and can pretty much do 80% of all electronic installs on site

but if you think you need a massive terrible on gas brotruck to do any sort of work whatsoever then more power to you

Dodge hasn't made trucks for several years.

Do you mean a new Ram?...
>>
1981-1993 Dodge w150/250/350
For work it has a 318, 360 or 12v Cummins(89-93)

They're built like tanks, My 85 w250 /360 tows just as much if not more than my buddies newer 2500 w/HEMI. Hell I even ran my 87 DD through a fence and down 4' into a drainage ditch. I came out the other side with a small dent in the gender and some scratched paint.

Ram...because it's not a Dodge...it's a Fiat

All trucks are shoved with luxury options and have their prices inflated to crazy amounts.

20k will get you a small V8 half ton truck that isn't rusted or molested to no repair.

Hi, I was looking around for a newish HD work vehicle at that price point as well. There's not much out there that hasn't been beaten to shit already. You can find early 2000s, high mileage chevy 2500HDs (frequently with the 8.1L since nobody wants them) and Ford Super Duties with the 6.0L (they're garbage at this age without several thousand in preventative maintenance)

Realistically your best option is to get the cheapest PoS that you can make work (read: minivan or midsize truck), then use it to save up for something nice that actually fits your needs.

I bought this rustbucket for $1700 with 130k and it's been great. When the body is fucked up already there's no need to be careful with it.
