Also, it's heavier, more complicated, more expensive, and has less road feel than the original, so the "better handling" is up for debate, unless you're talking skid pad numbers, which doesn't really tell you a whole lot other than the physical limits of the car.

People love the original because it's so balanced, poised, simple (mechanically speaking) and because it's a classic design/layout. The new one is not really a spiritual successor because it's not simple, and the design isn't nearly as classically appealing.

If the car had extremely hard suspension that physically hurt going over the tiniest bump and guzzled fuel like a Top Fuel dragster, few people would want it. Of course people care. What degree you care is entirely subjective.
