My dad literally did the exact same thing, tried to talk me into keeping my Mazda3 because "muh responsibilities" etc. It got smashed up by someone anyways so I never had to sell it, but he was constantly ragging on me every time I talked about selling it and getting something more fun.

That being said, if your dad paid for the car, or paid for part of it, he does have some say in it. If he just co-signed with no money put in, he can get bent.

Buuuuut, if you sell this thing and need him to co-sign for another vehicle, he still has some say in it. He's partially on the hook for the cost of the vehicle if you do something to it, so keep that in mind.
