Not more than any regular engine really, I change my oil every 5000 km, might see some occasional leak, coolant or steering fluid mostly, usually from a cracked hose somewhere (which isn't really a problem if one keeps their hoses fresh), if you get an XJ40 the plastic expansion tank has a tendency to crack, after replacing it 3 times I made myself one in stainless instead. Might want to check that the vaccuumhoses aren't clogged at some point but one can usually figure out when they are.
Engine and gearboxes are very solid on them, differentials go occasionally due to the IRS design . But it's not something you'll see "all the time" either. Electricals may be glitchy, especially on older models due to poor connectors. I had an XJ-S HE for a while, it had a large lightbulb with lots of fibreoptic leads going from it to light instrumentation, it popped on a regular basis, never managed to figure out why.

My current Jag I've had for 6 years and I've barely spent anything on it except replacing the odd wear part, fuel, tax and insurance. Parts aren't too expensive, plenty of aftermarket around too. But it probably helps to have a well equipped garage, if you leave them at the dealerships you're going to get eaten alive, last time I heard a quote from there it was surreal.

Buy a modern-ish (pretty much buy deislegate years, they are pretty cheat at the moment) Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 TDI with all of the bells and whistles, then get a shop you trust to modify it to a stage 3 and up with an upgraded turbo, ECU delete, chiptune, and everything else that comes with a stage 3. Then enjoy a quick car (183whp (206bhp) / 340lb-ft (384lb-ft crank)) that that is comfortable and can fit any family you have and trunk space.
I work at a shop that does these all of the time for guys that want exactly the same, they end up coming back again and again because it fits in to their life so well.
