Age doesn't matter, and neither does console, I can find an emulator for it somewhere.

A bit dated (came out late 2003), and has a very noticeable bias towards Porsche and Ferrari, but otherwise its a really solid racing game and has killer tunes.

Plus, Geometry Wars.

Holy shit I thought that I was the only one that played this godly game.

I remember how long it took for me to get in the career, beating all of the teams. took me a whole year. All I had left were to find the wanderers. I only was worried about finding that black West Corvette.

Then my younger brother deleted the data for NBA Street. Never touched the game again.

Also, you can't 100% the US version of game because one of the wanderers require you to have one digit placement more of cash than the game allows before he accepts your challenge.

I wish they made a current gen version of this game.

Carbon was fun as fuck, but it obviously needed another half-year of development to truly be a masterpiece..

Still one of my favorite games of all time though
>>
>>14651581

I loved Carbon as well but it got boring at the end.

No way to earn money.

EXTREMELY limited garage space.

Pursuit system played no purpose to advance the story like it did in MW2. Pursuits were also easier because the average muscle car could ram a cruiser head on and disable it at speed.

Soundtrack was fucking ass.

It was the start of EA's online-exclusive bullshit.

Tier system made the game boring.

Single player was 7 hours long, 6 if you can maraton it.
>>
>>14651596

This game was my childhood, still one of my favorites. Hell, I still use the logitech formula gp that my parents got me when I got the game, and that was almost 12 years ago. Right now I'm playing NFS Shift 2, which isn't bad, but I just got the B class races and I'm annoyed as hell. But really I just got it because I could race in a Datsun Z.
>>
>>14652231

I like that one, but I remember quitting after failing at the last second on a 10 minute race and never picking it back up. I do miss those games, and the original hot pursuit games. Once NFS Underground came out they've never been the same. Not saying that NFS has been bad since the change, but it hasn't felt the same.

I didn't like Driver 2, but my dad and I destroyed Driver 1. So many memories.

>>14653002

--------

Contribution 1 is FlatOut. My god, my dad and I played the shit out of that. Smashing cars, getting launched out of the windshield, it was a great versus game. Nothing like giving your buddy just enough of a tap that he hits a tree and goes face-first out the windshield.

Contribution 2 is Felony 11-79. It's from PS1, but it was such a great game. Huge open worlds, when the mission timers would run out you could keep exploring the level until your car broke down. Over 20 vehicles to unlock, and during missions you had to manage damage levels and fuel - each level had a gas station, and if you had something like the F1 car, Countach, or the RC car, you'd have to stop and refuel or else you wouldn't make it to the level's end. Fully tunable vehicle setups - handling, gearing, braking, etc.

Michael Bay: The Game

...But casuals may know it as Split/Second. I don't mean it lightly that this is probably THE BEST kart racing game I've played since Mario Kart. Ignoring the rubberbanding AI, the set piece moments are what make the game and the sound/music direction wraps it all together. Multiple times I have held my breath while diving under a crash-landing jumbo jet or drifting through an exploding hydro-electric dam. Shit's intense and I really wish I got a sequel.

+1, even on gamepad dirt is great. Not easy, but very satisfying.

If you loved GT4 but understeer was killing fun there's a solution-emulated GT for PSP. This is nothing more than a GT4 + more realistic car physics. Game doesn't has story mode, only license series but who cares? It has propably all of Gt4 cars and tracks + Valencia track and few new cars - Veyron,R35 GT-R andC6 corvette.
Only downside is that it supports only one analog and there's no avaible tuners.
For me it's a comfy GT4 for PC. If you have strong android smarthpone you can play it as well, but I prefer gamepad.

I fucking loved those games as a kid. Yesterday I actually received a copy of the sequel they released on Xbox 360. For some retarded reason they decided to call it Import Tuner Challenge instead of Tokyo Extreme Racer 4, so I had no idea it even existed. The car physics aren't great even for an arcade racer, but cruising down Tokyo's motorways is still comfy as fuck.

My personal favourite arcade racer is Midnight Club Los Angeles. A giant map of LA to race around in, deep customisation, wacky characters and a pretty noice story mode, and motorbikes. What more could you ask for?

The soundtrack in particular was godly:

F-Zero drove a team of software and hardware engineers at Sega to create a prototype of a 3d racing game which was so fun to play it was released as Virtua Racing.

The Sega Model 1 hardware was one of the most powerful computers in the world at the time and resulted from a cooperation with what is now the Martin part of Lockheed-Martin, Martin Marietta, who was developing technology for flight simulation.

The Model 1 hardware was upgraded and modified into the Model 2, now capable of fast texture mapping and featured a new game, the world-famous Daytona USA -- A Japanese love letter to American stock car racing. If you were an American in the '90s, chances are you've heard Takenobu Mitsuyoshi's digitized voice belting from one of these machines.

The Model 2 hardware also drove many other racing games, notably Sega Rally, Sega Touring Car Championship, and Indy 500.

Eventually, the director of Daytona USA would work on his own futuristic racer with F-Zero GX, thus like an American racing circuit, these games form a glorious cycle of motorsports inspiration and passion comprising some of the most respected disciplines and extending into the far future.

>All these games have been listed

Welp, that's pretty much all I had to say. Import Tuner Challenge was abit eh to play compared to the rest, but the customisation was god tier and it felt gud just cruising about.

Would mention the drift series, but they tried to take the highway game physics and actually make a handling-based video game off them, which was shit and a real shame as everything else was top tier.

Also, pic related- fucking comfy music, sounds, maps were chill and had some interesting gamemodes.

you can play any game you want, racing or not, but if it needs /o's approval then it has to be gran turismo. Its the only racing game which has any sort of relation to anything, most other racing games may as well be about spaceships for all the relevance they have to cars in real life, except a few others, none I have played so far.

Need for speed is the worst offender, on the newest game I tried to get into tuning a car myself when I noticed the tool tip for the differential tuning said that when the LSD is on the highest lock setting it results in more wheel spin... Completely fucking wrong, intact the opposite is true, if the differential is completely open then all the power can be sent to just one of the drive wheels, how can that possibly produce less wheel spin than if the power was split between the drive wheels... madness, this atop the fact the physics are fucking awful and bare no relation to real life, pulling the hand brake at 180MPH performing a 180 turn and pretty stopping instantly... right... some racing games are just 'for fun' I guess, but there is actually only a few that have any relation to real life cars.

Street Legal: Racing Redline. It's a bit buggy but when it works it's good fun.

With mods you can put just about any engine into almost any car you can think of.

Physics are arcade as fuark, but there's damage and plenty of third party content to play with.

You can put V8's into anything. Turbo fours into mooselkars, Quad turbo V12's into Smart cars. The possibilities are nigh-on endless.

The only good thing about it was it's the only NFS game where you can put bug catchers on your car. Tiers fucked it up, your starter determined which cars you could even use throughout the game and the quick race exclusive cars should have been buyable

IT stands for "Given an Outstanding Award Twice"

It's used to denote a game that has won at least two of the following:

1) Best at Show E3
2) IGN's Game of the Year
3) Electronic Gaming's Game of the Year
4) Golden Joystick Award
5) Famitsu Award
