Ok guise, the time has come.

I'm pulling the trigger on one of these cars but, hell I'm seriously undecided on what I should buy.

>GT86: 26.000€ discounted price, new
>MX-5 (1.5 exceed): 24.000€ discounted price, new
>MX-5 (2.0 sport/top trim): 28.900€ discounted price, new

I don't give a shit about lap times, muh torque and especially I won't install any turbo/supercharger kit as it's illegal where I live.

Just tell me what you'd choose from these models and why I should listen to your suggestions.

Also: are there known defetcs for the Toyota I should consider?

[MX-5]

>PROS:

+ Way superior interior build quality
+ Way superior interior equipment
+ Lighter than the GT86
+ Very good fuel consumption
+ It's a spyder

>CONS:

- Two seats
- Very little interior space
- It's a spyder (If I'll need more space then I'll have to change car)

[GT86]

>PROS

+ I love how it looks
+ Boxer engine
+ Engine noise
+ I really like the sport seats
+ Tons of aftermarket parts
+ More interior space

>CONS

- Fuel consumption
- Crappy interior
- Resale value is utterly ridiculous

Now go, fight for me.

I own a ND, if you have any questions, ask here.
>>
>>14611876
Well, let my explain better.

It's illegal to mount a kit or alter in any way the engine power and drive the car on public roads but if I want to keep it legal I have to take the car to motorization and let they test the car to see if it meets the safety norms, also they have to update the car's registration certificate with new power and shit so I can pay more taxes.

This process is very expensive and that's why here in Italy tuning is not considered like in other civilized countries.
>>
>>14611890
>implying I haven't also asked elsewhere

I don't know, I like to consider opinions from worldwide users with different experiences.

>>14611894
I drove both of them but unfortunately the Mazda was the 1.5 engine.

Cool noise and kinda fast but I'm not sure about the lack of torque here compared to the 2 liters engine.

The GT86 was also cool but fuck me if I'm wrong I remember it to have a heavy clutch pedal, which is not bad but I have to consider this because I may find myself stuck in traffic on the way to work/home, so...

>>14611900

Stupid question: the GT86 has got a "Sport button" for the traction control and once pressed it's easier to make the car drift and oversteer but everything is under control because the traction control is ON.

Has got the Mazda a similar setting for the TRC?

How much does Giuseppe at the DMV charge you for the necessary tests/paperwork? Here in Switzerland, you can easily rack up a $20k bill for nothing but a larger exhaust, coilovers and maybe some chip tuning (anything more than 20% over stock power requires a full battery of tests that costs an assload).
>>
>>14611909
86 has a really light clutch pedal since it was designed to be ddable without killing your leg. Some people dislike how light it is and remove the spring to get a better feel for the biting point.. Since I dd mine quite a distance I didn't bother removing the spring and instead remember where the bite point is off memory.

The nd is 5k more where I live. If we don't factor price though, I liked how the 86 looks, sounds, and feels while cornering a lot more than the miata. Also I hate convertibles, and you're completely sol if you need to go somewhere with more than 1 friend.

miata all the way, it has a proper suspension, inline 4 for easy maintenance and is lighter

Thanks m8.

>>14611999
I'm not interested in the Fiat 124 because it's more softer overall than the MX-5 (I know the car isn't out yet but it has been said from testers) and personally I don't like it though...the abarth makes my dick hard, but seriously nothing in the world can convince me on spending 40.000€ on that car. It's insane, even if it has got very specialistic modifications over the standard 124.

Also I don't have 40k €.

>>14612013
I don't know exactly but it is expensive, N thousand euro for sure.

For the custom exhaust on my old car I bought a Supersprint cat back system which came with regular papers and registration.

>>14612027
Now I have the doubt the car I tested was a very young model and maybe the clutch had to be used to get the right feeling.

The funny thing is that here the GT86 is fucking rare...1 dealer on 10 have it. I'm serious.
>>
>>14612072
That's literally the last problem I'd consider for leaving this shitty country, seriously.

>>14612113
Yeah I forgot to add the more comfortable suspension for the MX-5.
>>
>>14611846
>illegal where I live.
What a fucking cuck. ISIS would probably give you more freedumbs.
>>
>>14612132
>it's more softer overall
I can guarantee you the Abarth 124 won't be softer overall than the Miata in real life.

Now the money thing I can get, but that's the great thing about living in America, they will be cheaper here, and thanks to it being a Fiat, depreciation will mean you can get an Abarth 124 for 20K or less in 2 years
>>
Given the limited choices I would get the 86.
>>
>>14612172
Fiat 124 = standard 124
Abarth 124 = 40.000€ 124 with 170 hp

I forgot that in the USA Abarth it's a trim of Fiat models...here in Europe Abarth is a separate maker from Fiat.

The cool thing is that here in Italy Fiat always makes good discounts and offers even on the Abarth cars but even if they cut 2-3000€ from the standard 40.000€ price for the Abarth 124 we're talking about a big amount of money.

I really hope they'll release an Abarth 124 with LSD and 170 hp engine with the only option of custom seats and firmer suspension, basically the counterpart of the MX-5 2.0 Sport with alcantara seats, bilstein suspension and powerful engine, priced 32-33.000€.
>>
>>14612220
US Spec is also getting 190hp, not 170
>>
>>14611941
Trust me when I say that the 2.0 is plenty quick, it makes a good amount of torque throughout most of its powerband
>>
Fuel consumption really isn't the issue /o/ makes out on the BRZ I get an average of 46 mpg on my commute.
>>
>>14611999
Stop shilling for FIAT already. They deserve to go bankrupt for their unreliable products
>>
>>14611846
All shitposting aside...

The miata is little more faster, but the 86 is a little more easier to live with it and roomier on the inside
>>
Performance-wise (street and stock) the miata is superior in every possible way.

The 86 has more room, but neither car is considered a practical car anyways.

With the 86 you get a cheap try-hard interior that screams "suburban white tweenager" and crippling ricetax. The only real pro the 86 has is its aftermarket, but at the end of the day you'd be pumping money into a car that will never be fast without 15 grand pumped into it (making you a full blown retard).

Since you aren't modding and aren't tracking it. get the Miata and call it a day.
>>
>>14617117
i meant street and track

>>14611846
>Just tell me what you'd choose from these models and why I should listen to your suggestions.
IMO they're both crappy cars but I'd choose 86 just because it has solid roof and doesn't have that gay angry fascia.
>>
>>14612132
124 Spyder is 20 grand in america, shouldn't be much more in europe

Nope, here in Italy it starts from 27500€ to 29900€ for the top trim. (I'm not talking of the Abarth version)

In US coins = $30700 - $33400

Let's say my Fiat dealer would discount 2 grands from the listed price it'll be 27900€.

No game against the sport MX-5 with LSD, alcantara and the 2.0 engine...also remember that in Europe the base 124 comes with 140 hp.

>>14617117
>Performance-wise (street and stock) the miata is superior in every possible way.

If you discount top speed and laptimes yes.
