So I've been looking around at WRX's. Found this one that has very low miles, 22k, but it has a rebuilt title. Is this something you should immediately avoid? Or is it still worth looking into?

Pic is vehicle in question.

Newer cars take a LOT more to total. So that means a lot more damage was done.
>>
>>14611266
Not to be an ass, but it really is one of those "If you have to ask, it's probably not for you" situations.

On a car that new, it would have taken a ton of damage to result in a write off, and unless the dealership has the paperwork, you don't know who/what shop did the rebuild.

To add to that, unless you are fairly familiar with the mechanical and structural nature of that car, you aren't really going to have a strong idea of what to look for in terms of the repairs.

And to add to THAT, your insurance will be higher since it's a salvage/rebuilt title.
>>
>>14611289
So the dream is dead in other words.
>>
>>14611297
Most of the time, buying a salvage/rebuilt title cr is simply trading upfront cost for higher long term cost.

You can, if you know what you are looking for, occasionally snag decent deals on these sorts of cars, but I would be extremely hesitant to make any sort of offer on a car THAT new unless the dealership had full records of the rebuild that document what was originally damaged and what had to be repaired complete with photos.
>>
>>14611297
Not necessarily. It's just a gamble. If that car is worth $20,000 in good shape, it would have had to need repairs that cost 70-75% of that value before an insurance company would total it out. That would be $15,000 worth of repairs.

Considering that this WRX has only 940 miles on it I doubt it was an actual accident that totaled it. Chances are it was a flood car. Any flood damage usually totals a car immediately.
>>
>>14611340
If I run the VIN will it detail the type of damage or will it just say it was totaled?

This would also appear to be a picture of it prior to the repair
>>
>>14611406
Goddamn, 612 miles on it.....what a fuckup. Good find anon.
>>
>>14611416
How did you get your hands on that? Dealership realted thing?
>>
>>14611431
Managed to find a cached page that had a not blurry picture, looks as though they have both the front and rear bumper covers off, so I am willing to bet it was smacked on both ends even though they don't show the back

Thank you guys. Going to pass on that one for sure. What kind of dumbass totals a car in 600 miles. Really hope someone else was at fault, that's sad.
>>
>>14611266
I bought a 2013 WRX with 37k miles for 25000 with a clean title, they're out there OP you just have to look
>>
>>14611478
How do you like it? Do you plan on tuning it? 30k is my budget limit, but I really don't want to hit that.
>>
>>14611481
It's currently at a stage 2, and makes a little over 300 wheel
It's definitely a fun car, the mods/tune turn it into a torque monster. I plan on doing a few more supporting mods then a larger turbo.
It does have the older engine though
>>
>>14611522
How much did the stage 2 with parts/install run you if you don't mind me asking?
>>
>>14611541
The install for bolt-ons on these cars is crazy easy, I'd round to $1500 including tune
>>
>>14611603
How often do you have dudes in civics with fart cans trying to rev at you?
>>
>>14611478
Nig I just bought a 2014 STI with 28k miles for $29k and a clean title.
Why did you not get an STI? you know you'll kick yourself in the ass for not.
>>
>>14611639
Because the STI is heavier, has the same engine and I'm replacing all the suspension/intercooler anyways

>>14611629
Civics revved at my last car, they leave this one alone
>>
>>14611677
They do not have the same engine. And The STI has better suspension, brakes, stronger transmission, driver controlled center diff, stronger diff and it's an STi!
>>
>>14611795
EJ257 has differently dished Pistons, if I recall correctly and that's the main difference. (Besides different turbos)

There's a huge subie tax in my area, so I didn't mind the center diff not being there too much

For example, in my area a 60k mile STI probably goes for 32k :(
>>
>>14611841
Here too, I live in Oregon, feels bad.
>>
>>14611841
Also the metal red intake manifold
>>
i would buy a salvage title if the car wasnt luxury and wasnt overall too expensive
>>
Totaling a car doesnt mean it was destroyed. It just means that the bean counter at the insurance company thought it was cheaper to get a replacement than fix the broken one. If there was a parts availability problem because it was crashed when it was brand new they may have just totaled the car.

Most likely there was significant damage, but if it was minor there will for sure be paperwork to back that up. No paperwork is a red flag for being lied to. At least with paperwork if they lie you have a court case.
