Meh I got 19-20mpg in my street ported RX7 when hypermilling it, and gas is cheap and only looks to go cheaper.

And spare parts are cheap compared to other cars of its performance.
Nothing gives the feeling of driving one except like a Viper I guess; car's fucking mad.

Buy it and put it into your garage. You'll make plenty of money from selling it 20-30 years from now to justify it.

I bought the car at auction in japan from a small dealer, he picked the car up, got it compression tested and said he made sure it was alright.

The previous owner used shit parts and was clearly fucking about and didn't put the rest of it back together right.
He also allowed rust to remain in the oil cooler, which was grinding away at the rotor housing.

The dealer guy didn't have a clue about rotaries but obviously didn't say that, and he said he works on the white fd next to his place so I trusted him

I bought this soon after I moved into the country, lesson learnt I know who to buy off now.
Hindsight is 20/2
Tl;dr op got diddled but at least learnt how to avoid it happening again
