Looks like a cheap A45 AMG. Performs similarly, though I'm curious about "Drift" mode. It looks nice in those colours, though.

Will attract Ken Block fanboys and people jumping ship from the WRX STi.

Almost bought one, but went with the GT350 instead. I -might- buy it later, although I will likely end up with a Model S commuter car.

pretty much this

i wanted a wrx hatch back in 2012 and was pissed to find out years later that the hatchback was discontinued

i wasn''t going to buy some used wrx with 100k+ miles hooned by some boy racer so i decided to get a cheapo FiST and wait for a nice AWD small hatch to come out again

RS will probably be my next car but i will wait a couple years for the issues to get refined and get everyone's opinion of it

>>14512446
I'm doing precisely the same thing. My s2000 was on its last legs at 220k odo, but I couldn't afford to keep the s2000 while waiting for the RS. I sold the S and purchased a new fiesta st last year. I'll be holding it until the markup drops a year or two from now.

Insider info from a ford family member, the RS is being up sold by over 10k in some places and they're actually still getting preorders at that number. I absolutely love my fiesta at though, most of my friends don't approve of the trade, but then I give them a ride through Palomar and they change their tunes pretty quick after nearly shitting my passenger seat.
>>
>>14512446
Lets hope they're still making the RS in a couple of years and it isn't just a limited run.

For the money it destroys the competition. The Golf R, WRX STI and Civic Type R are the closest rivals. The Civic is FWD, the Golf is too slow and the Subaru isn't as practical or fuel efficient. It will also destroy them all in a race. The A45 and RS3 are 33% more so aren't conpetition.
>>
>>14512168
>implying a transverse engine setup has any performance merits compared to a longitudinal setup
>>
>>14512222
If they'd just make a Fiesta RS, that'd be great. Use the Focus ST's engine, it'd be awesome, possibly a better drivers car than the Focus RS.
>>
>>14515725
They wanted to bring a Fiesta RS with a performance boosted 1.6L ecoboost (about 250hp in overboost) and FWD but I guess they stopped the project.
>>
Vastly overpriced for what it delivers.

Retards and tourists from Jalopnik will continue to shill for it, despite the fact that for that kind of money, you should just blow a little more and get an M2 or a Cayman or another actual performance vehicle, rather than a shitbox Focus.

It's laughable that Ford fanboys say that it blows WRXs and GTIs out of the water, considering that out the door, it's going to cost fifteen to twenty thousand dollars more, depending on dealer markup.

I guess if Ford can trick some people into dropping damn near 50 grand on a transversely mounted 4 cylinder with an electronic center diff that "totally isn't Haldex" and the interior of, well, a Focus, then more power to them.
>>
>>14515975
M2 $20,000 more expensive according to google
>blow a little more
>>
>>14516064

M2 is $52,695 as per Google.

Focus RS with the blue paint that the shills adore, with even a few options that still put it well below the M2's setup, gets it to $40,255. Then tack on the dealer markup of $5000, as per several sources including the owners club (http://www.focusrsclub.com/forum/209-purchasing-ordering/2162-markup-thread.html), and you're looking at a difference of about seven grand. But hey, if you wanna pay 85% of the M2's sticker to end up with a Focus, that's your prerogative.

I'd rather go the extra inch and get a far superior vehicle in the M2, myself.
>>
Thought they would use Haldex but chose GKN, I am intrigued
>>
>>14512446
>but i will wait a couple years for the issues to get refined
By ford themselves? There won't be a second run, they're making 4000 cars and they have all already been sold. A couple of years for a car like this won't really uncover anything huge considering how little they will be driven anually

The Fiesta ST is something like my 6th or seventh car, I've lost track in the last 20 years. If you legit were looking at a Fiesta ST as a first car, the nicest thing I could say would be nothing and then snicker under my breath. No new driver could handle the clutch in that without burning it to shit in the first 5k.

I stand by it being just as fun as the s2000, just in a different fashion. Definitely was a good interim car to spend on while I wait for RS life that may never happen lol

RS with decent options is 40k before any dealer markup bullshit. Personally, the 12-15k extra that a M2 or lightly used Cayman S will cost is definitely worth the better interior, fit and finish, and performance. Not to mention I really don't need 4 doors.

I was pretty hyped for the focus RS but that's sort of faded over time. The interior is pretty much the big sticking point for me right now. I know it's sort of a trademark for hot hatches to be like that but it doesn't change the fact that 95% of the interior is carried over from a 14k base model. 52-55k for a M2 is really stretching my budget but I'm of a mind to just yolo and do it sometime in the fall.

Get a 435i instead? How do you like those? I think they're a nice compromise right in the middle of this price range

Is the 3 cylinder turbo fiesta SE worth getting over the focus SE with the same engine?

Am I just wasting my time, and should just get an ST of one of those?
I'm just looking for a turbo car to get me to work everyday, until I can afford me a good car. I'll be getting them near $3,000 off for an ST, 2k for an SE.
>>

Funny because Subaru and Mitsubishi have been selling worse/slower cars at that same price point for years successfully
>>
>>14528871
Yes. And it's been so successful for Mitsubishi that they're no longer going to produce the Evo. The truth of the matter is that that your Evos, STIs, WRXes, Type-Rs and the like are loss leaders for their respective companies.
>>
>>14528968

>And it's been so successful for Mitsubishi that they're no longer going to produce the Evo.
The probelm with Mitsubishi is that their models are so shit they can no longer financially justify a halo model.

>The truth of the matter is that that your Evos, STIs, WRXes, Type-Rs and the like are loss leaders for their respective companies.
These cars are not meant to make tons of money on their own. Commuter cars and overpriced luxury cars make profit.

These halo models are meant to generate brand interest which in turn brings people into dealerships and sells lower tier models.
>>
>>14527119
Hell, thats if your lucky enough to even get it at that fucking price, dealerships around here are tacking on an extra 8k before any options because "muh limited run" and an extra 4k because "muh heavily sought after"
>>
>>14529005
>not knowing how to negotiate
>not ignoring whatever bullshit they put on the sticker and talking them down to at least MSRP

Who cares what shit they try to tack on the sticker, that is literally never what you pay unless you're a retard.
>>
>>14528982
Thank you for illustrating my points.
>>
>>14529317
Your points that these cars are overpriced and have no use.

The reality is that they generate brand interest which DOES generate revenue.

There's a reason manufacturers like Toyota are seen as such boring manufacturers, they completely gave up on halo models and produced nothing but appliances.

Manufacturers like Subaru have made models like the STI for a decade now and people see Subaru as an exciting manufacturer, even if the vast majority of the cars they sell are nonturbo Imprezas and Legacys.

Your argument that these type of cars are overpriced and possibly useless is flatly wrong. They are priced low enough that they will sell enough to justify their existence (albeit not super profitable like a shitbox would be) AND they will bring people into dealerships and generate excitement for the brand they fall under (which bolsters shitbox sales).
>>
>>14529345
>Your points that these cars are overpriced and have no use.
I didn't say they had no use. I said they were loss leaders. You've defined what a loss leader is not once, but now twice.

Now, before you come back and say, "But a loss leader is a product priced too low to be profitable in order to raise interest in more profitable products," understand that this is only one loss leader strategy.

Another strategy (and it's still a loss leader strategy), as it pertains to the aforementioned vehicles, is to offer a high-end product in order to build prestige and to attract customers to a company's less expensive but more profitable products.
